From what I can gather, shows with either a lot of advertising or a lot of critical acclaim that aren't immediately remembered in the years to come. So the "flop" part refers to the fact that the work had no lasting impact on the public.
Which is weird, since people still reference and cosplay as Violet, so I don't understand how it's in this hole. And it's also a very limiting term, since there are cases where some movies and shows are completely ignored in the decade they were made only to come back full force in another time. And there's no way to determine which ones are the "timeflops" by just waiting a season or two after airing.
