You're probably right. He's gotten violent and threatened to get violent multiple times, but it was mainly in the early episodes.
I don't think canon Toi is supposed to be bad or hateful, just corrupted by his experiences. But the popular headcanon version of him is a psycho who I'd be happy to see die.

He obviously wasn't. He gave up instantly after the plates were used and even understood Kazuki's choice. For a while up to this point, Toi has just been doing what he feels like he has to do for his connection to Chikai, even though it hurts him and he lacks genuine will to become the hard person he's trying to be. Toi is constantly missing the things he's given up despite his efforts to not care.

Reo and Mabu aren't "dead" dead. For one, they're not human. Mabu's circle didn't disappear like the other victims of the week and Reo's body was turned into light/connected with Mabu's circle, so whatever state Mabu is in, Reo is in as well. Chikai is straight up dead.

Also, I'm pretty sure the otters lied to Reo and Mabu didn't actually fully die- he was just mortally wounded and they saved him. They made it sound as if Reo's grief-fueled wish brought him back to life to make it far easier for him to believe it was an entirely different Mabu he got back.

It's only a half of Keppi magic though, with the other half belonging to otters now.

Nah, he needs to stay dead. Chikai's whole thing is that connections make you weak, which runs against the central thesis of the entire story. Maybe if this were a 24 episode series there would be time to give him a redemption arc, but as it stands right now it'll probably end with Toi rejecting Shadow Chikai and going back to the kappa group.

The maintenence scene where the otter forces Mabu to choose him over Reo in front of Reo is the exact same shit.

I would've liked to know more about how Mabu feels concerning the other facets of Reo's insanity, because the otters didn't say he couldn't react like a normal person to Reo kidnapping Haruka or shooting Enta, because he was oddly detached about that.

He's the most one dimensional character probably, but I don't mind him since he's enjoyable on the scenes he's in and also doesn't get nearly as much as screentime as you're implying.
