Scanlating feels like it's on it's last legs these days.

Good, scanlations are trash. We need more shit like the shonen jump app.

Because it's been filled with people begging for money, ESLs that complain because they don't like translations that sounds like they were done in native English, and people who either machine translate or are N5 level.

I have 2 pages left to do for my current chapter but I've no motivation to finish for some reason.

Anyone got more "commonly used fonts" reference images? Was trying to identify something the other day and couldn't match it up with the few I've got.

I have the opposite problem. It's hard to motivate myself to start working on the first page. Once I get going I can usually power through it.

Partially, groups are always having a shitfit for inane reasons, but I have yet to see a decline in scanlation as a whole. In my opinion, jew groups like JB can go fuck themselves.

I think manga scanlators are dropping out for good reasons. Official manga apps are becoming more common. People who scanlate manga might get too busy irl to work on them anymore. They might lose interest in scanlating or in the series they were scanlating. And not to diss all readers, but some are absolutely annoying if you don't translate the series exactly how they feel it should be translated.

The series I'm translating seems to be steadily losing readers due to how the plot is progressing. Some find it too predictable or too stupid compared to their expectations. I'll still read it myself, but if this keeps up I might just stop translating it for everyone else.

But it's pretty clear with a lot of groups dying over the tears and no new groups taking their place, is anything new groups just pop up to work on some semi popular isekai of the moment, hell I was checking baka a few weeks ago and some shitty group was unironically scanlating naruto, probably using hq scans or some shit. There's been a rise in korean shit translation though.

I've heard they're stricter than the other sites. They can refuse to upload if they view your release as too low quality in some regard, such as translation, typesetting, raw quality etc.

First time scanlator here. I tried my best with scanning and now I'm translating.

1. Is CC Wild Romans good or do I look like a jackass using it?
2. I don't know Japanese, is it fine to use Google Translate's OCR and just touch up dialog where it seems odd?
3. Gutter/page shadow. Is it alright to have?
4. What resolution should I be going for? I have about 7,000x5,000 pixel images for each scan of both pages but the file size is fuckhuge

No. Machine translations aren't just gonna seem odd, they will completely miss the meaning of pretty much every other sentence.
Contact someone who knows japanese. If they like the series they might even do it for free.

Have you looked for any guides on scanning?
If you don't care about the magazine you should strip the pages before scanning them.

Don't even bother. Not only does their OCR not read vertical text properly, the context is completely lost and it's impossible to get a correct sentence without knowing the multiple meanings of every word in each context (most of which aren't available on Google Translate.)

Use Photoshop's Save For Web and reduce the number of colors, that should bring down the size considerably without a noticeable loss in quality or resolution. 1200*2000 pages with reduced colors won't exceed 1MB in any case.

1. "I" and "i" are different in comic fonts—use uppercase "I" only for the word "I" or an initialism like CIA.
4. This is 2019 and people should really be posting their pages at 300dpi. Use a PNG optimizer with as few colors as you can get away with (16 usually works for greyscale).
