Yea I dont get the appeal of idol series either. The girls are usually not hot and are one dimensional. The music and dancing looks like generic shit...kinda like generic pop in the west.
The whole focus on watching idols "work hard" is weird too, i dont give a shit about some girls i dont know, especially when they arent even hot.
At least put in something that makes the series interesting, like showing how the idols prostitute themselves to get inside the door or whatever.
