The worlds where the MCs end up are pretty much Europe with magic what is the equivalent of being a Japanese exchange student at Hogwarts just that they all speak Japanese and eat ramen. Like in a harem every episode/volume the MC picks up a new girl and the actual "main story-line" is meaningless as fuck.
Isekai is just the next evolution in the harem-genre to make it easier for their self-inserting reader/viewers.

While it's about as deep as a puddle, there's at least been a bit of thought behind it.
