Yuzu started out good but then DSOD happened. Aoi gets a lot of spotlight but never really does anythng important, but I guess they could turn things around for her. I'm not going to mention Anzu because she's pretty much a non-character.

Both are great duelists. However I think that Aki was better than Asuka, if only because at one point she duel alone and without a sense of mercy/pity. Plus Divine influence on her was also a thing.
Asuka is also a very good duelist, but consider that she was a strong student that also liked to duel for fun. Aki is the opposite, she mostly fight for "survival" and also a sense of superiority, at least until Yusei snap her out of that.

VRAINS hasn't been off to to good of a start, but it's been pretty good this season and shows some promise.
Arc-V may have ended up a dumpster fire, but it was fun and the first season is still pretty good. Give the first season a shot.

Part 2 was much better in all categories, and Part 3 is looking like the quality will either trend upward or plateau.
VRAINS' biggest fucking flaw is how predictable duel outcomes are, which is an issue that plagues the franchise as a whole, especially since early 5Ds. The main source of entertainment is trying to figure out what whacked out shit is going to happen in the middle of the duel, which VRAINS milks for all it's worth. Maybe there's a new Link monster. Maybe Yusaku has a fucking Ritual this week. Maybe Revolver flips fucking MIND CRUSH. You just don't know. You know who's gonna win, though. Nobody named Aoi or Blood Shepherd or Ghost Girl.

I blame the character bloat, GX (and Arc-V) had a lot of characters competing for screentime. 5D'S had it better in that regard since they mostly focused on the signers, a very limited group of characters.

It all depends on how you look at it. Some of her wins are against irrelevant fodder like Trudge or the dude she beat in the tournament, and some are with the help of others in tags or battle royales. She did beat Misty, but that's when she peaked.

Somehow the dudes soul is transferred into the girl and they are now sharing the girls body like Yuma and Astraln or Yugi and Atem did. So while the girl is the mc, the dude is always present and is the spiritual guide. He could even duel other souls from time to time. That way you can please the little japanese zoomers who would otherwise drop the show since there's icky girls on the screen, while giving the older audience the femc they've always wanted.
