Every time I try to read some of the newer shoujo (old ones are usually alright), I always end up picking some utter shit.

Josei can be pretty good. When shoujo wants to be good, it's great. But most of the time, shoujo has a similar problem to shounen where most of the tropes in them are so familiar that it gets annoying. In fact, I'd argue shoujo is worse in that regard since they don't involve action, but relationships

Josei is objectively the only good manga and anime there is, it also took me a while to realize.

Waifubait is just the "moeshit" term that has been updated for the current decade. It means it uses cute girl characters that often follow base archetypes of the kind of girl most otaku would want to date in order to bait thirsty otaku into watching the show and wanking over them. This is often used to hide the fact that the actual plot and writing of the show is dogshit.

The issue for Shoujo is that 99% of it is trash so much so I can only think of 5 good ones outside of the dozens I've given a try
Josei though is pure kino the only issue is that there is so few but I'd rather have the few high quality ones over dozens of shitty ones
