They're a spiritual successor to the Way of the Samurai games, if you've ever played those. Unfortunately, while it's been too long since I've played either to remember the exact specifics, I do remember AT2 being a downgrade in basically every regard. I remember WotS offering up a lot of player agency, hidden shit, and opportunities to fuck around, whereas AT just had you running from objective to objective. I also remember WotS having more emphasis on combat styles and more impact in the fights. Writing-wise, WotS is legitimately funny and has cute girls, while AT2 is relatively flat anime writing.

I'd basically equate AT2 to Senran Kagura. You wouldn't play it if it didn't have anime tits, but it's not quite into buyer's remorse territory. DO play WotS. 3 and 4 are on Steam.

On a side note, why the fuck does anime tits seem to be so strongly associated with mediocre games? We have plenty of evidence that anyone who tries to claim "the target audience doesn't want good gameplay distracting from the girls" is full of shit. Xenoblade 2, Nier, 3DS Fire Emblem, etc. Great games with great anime tits can literally sell millions. Lazy games with anime tits seems to cap off at 150k, usually significantly less.

It was a wonderful surprise and we'll never see it's like again.

WotS 3 and 4 are a little disappointing imo. They're not bad but I enjoyed WotS2 more and 4 is just a little too over the top anime with the white haired bish British guy or the chick dressed like a knight. Still, shame we'll never see WotS5 since IIRC the team that was in charge fo the series (and Akiba's Trip) has long been disbanded.

Also good on them for launching Kenneth Rocafort's career with that Samurai Western cover. We'd never have his cute, big-assed girls otherwise.

You could tell the production crew was really into it and it ended up far better than it had any right to be. The parody of different otaku hit that sweet spot where even the subjects being caricatured could still laugh along.

Not all gatekeeping is created equal, though. There's a big difference between, say, expecting newcomers to put at least some effort into acclimating themselves to the new subculture and using mob tactics to subjugate all subcultures so that you can march in and boss around every single person in every single corner of society. The best way to protect the integrity of your subculture is to drive out people who would subvert it.

Well that's what I mean. I get we were all new at some point so I try to be patient to some extent and helpful where I can but you would not believe how often I see people, say for example, go on about how much they love Marvel but refuse to read a single comic. I've even offered to share my trades.

The fun thing about the anime is that it introduces all sorts of otaku communities and not just anime-otaku like you see in "otaku" media.

I really do miss TM2

Really great series despite the cour's episodic nature. Each episode managed to keep interest with over-the-top shenanigans along with its compact yet likable cast. An extremely solid 7.5/10; a complete surprise to me who expected nothing outside of perhaps a limp-existed adaption of the lackluster games from which it technically draws its source.

This did sort of feel like a more multi-faceted, anime version of Akibaranger to me.

I was slightly disappointed by the first episode since it seemed to completely disregard the plot of Akiba's Trip. But then the actual show was so good that I was glad it turned out that way.

Who doesn't remember the AOTY of 2017?
It was so fucking good, it's been said many times already but it cannot be overstated how much of a entertaining original show it was (granted it's loose adaption still) but original regardless.
Feels like Gonzo was paid the average lump sum of money to produce it and had free hands to do whatever they wanted as long it advertised the games well and thus diamond was born.
MC and his 3 girl friends, all the side characters and many of the villains to the themes of the episodes all are so fucking good. A blessing upon us.

He's great because he actually has a personality and gets swept along into all the stupid bullshit instead of being Generic Otaku Self-Insert Template. In any other show he would've been awful.

This is honestly one of the funniest parts of the entire series. It's not enough that they do the over the top Yugioh parody or that the reality is that they're just dorks sitting at a table playing a card game but Mayo slowly increasing amounts of seething at how stupid and boring the entire thing is that ties it all together.
