There's a certain feel to having one eye obscured, for whatever reason. It doesn't have to be specifically an eyepatch. Think about that girl with the clock eye, or Lucy here, for example:

Or it can be even subtler. Having different-coloured eyes is similar - e.g. Spike in CB says something about one eye seeing the present and one eye the past, doesn't he? It's a weird combination of disability+superpower+cool.
