Scrub Horizon really is just all about how much you can relate to the kids from your own teenage MMO experience. It perfectly encapsulates growing up in the early 2000s.

S1 is a favorite of mine. I never watched S2 because I'm a shallow bastard and I couldn't stand the art downgrade.

But Akatsuki was able to obtain a child avatar. It's just a really glaring plot hole that I don't think they'll ever explain.

A great isekai/MMO anime for people with a bit more patience than your avarage ADD teen. It offers less action than others in the genre, but makes up for it with lovable mature characters and decent worldbuilding. Log Horizon does a lot of set-ups and payoffs, starting very early in the series so rarely anything feels like an asspull if you payed attention to the signs. Season 2 is definitely worse than Season 1, but does feature actual raid battles so it's worth taking a look (given you finished S1 and liked it).

Maybe it's because I binged the BD release but I didn't find S2 to be bad at all, only slightly worse in terms of pacing and art obviously. Then again I don't mind the kids, I think they're a good way to show lower level aspects of MMOs and they're pretty mature for their age.

I don't think the quality is that good, actually. It's more that they take a fairly unique angle and that manages to carry it through lots of poor decisions, especially with season 2. It's bizarre to me how they can talk about the long-term position of adventurers without ever addressing whether they can reproduce or age. They set up Akatsuki as a cross-gender player who wants to stay her rl gender at the very start, but then we don't see the issue come up again at all until a minor notice in s2. People treat PKing like the gravest of sins and the people who do it act like evil cunts for no reason long before it's ever established that there are consequences for dying.

Combine that with the completely retarded ideas like MMO 101, The Lonely Ninja, and Some Faggot Talks for 30 Minutes all popping up right when something actually interesting is going on elsewhere and it's bizarre that the show is as watchable as it is. I'd say it's a prime example of an interesting premise making up for poor execution, which sets it apart from most isekaishit that tries to do the opposite.

Well that's partially why I said decent instead of great. But for an isekai its world is decently fleshed out. On top of that it has by far the best established game mechanics in the genre. I think with careful analyses and a bit of imagination you could make a somewhat accurate replica of Elder Tale. That aside, with worldbuilding I kinda also just mean how they explain the game well to newcomers, they have game realistic dungeons, aggro systems, sense of politics etc. All that stuff. It ain't amazing, but I appreciated the above average effort at least.

I know a lot of MMO's that have height sliders. Couple that with some youthful hairstyles and face options and you can look like a kid. I don't see how this is out of the ordinary at all?

Quan Shi Gao Shou is also pretty cool. However it is more focused on the PvP aspect of an MMO
