It's time to take off those nostalgia glasses. Our War Game is nice and nothing more, it doesn't have anything that SW doesn't do better. Low tier Hosoda compared to even other Toei stuff.

It's a great first watch but I found subsequent viewings make me appreciate it less. There are a lot of plot points that just feel disjointed or overly contrived.

Just modernized War Game, and just as good. I love the music and still listen to it.

Depends what you want out if it. When I watched it I couldn't give two shit about the family values romcom bullshit and only wanted to see the internet stuff/plot progression. Considering that Our War Game is literally just that I'm inclined to prefer it. I'm not saying it's objectively better, but I am saying that I personally get more enjoyment from Our War Game than I did Summer Wars.

But Our War Game has less of both. The plot is literally just Taichi sitting on his ass while random misfortunes prevent him from contacting the others or beating the Digimon until it's time to end the movie, and the only "internet stuff" is the mail gimmick, again nothing compared to all the stuff about Oz in SW.

Personally it reminded me of the time when I was a kid and we'd have these huge family gatherings. Now that I'm older we've all sort of moved away, so this movie resonated with me.

It demonstrates how technology, for as much as it can separate us, can bring us together, and had great animation.
