In the VN, UBW followed Fate, which gave a complete rundown on Berserker's abilities and why he's so dangerous. Since this follows Zero instead, there had to be a display of God Hand in their first encounter, otherwise he's just Lancelot 1.1.

It's a visual medium and having yet another fight taking place in the same castle since Zero is uninteresting.
