Kazuma and Aqua are endgame. The whole story revolves around their quest to defeat the Demon King. Megumin and Darkness are simply supporting characters that add flavor to the quest and are basically instruments towards that goal.

Let's get more real: their situations with Kazuma are just there to pad up the sales. Kazuma x Megumin, Kazuma x Darkness... you all fell for it like chumps. 10 volumes of KazuMegu romantic exploits, Darkness "raping" Kazuma? All that just to make you buy more volumes and it worked. You're invested.

Even though it's been all so clear that Kazuma sees Aqua more than just a romantic partner. His approach towards her is more natural. He smacks her around, calls her useless, lectures her, insults her etc. AND YET he still keeps her around despite all that and despite having the option to not give a shit about their quest. That's a real relationship, where it's not all about the lovey-dovey idealism. A real relationship is about having someone to suffer through life with, which is a deeper connection than your standard harem romcom can manage.

All I'm saying, is that if they do get into blows with one another, it's more likely that they'd make up quicker and let it pass than take the situation on a more serious, personal level, because they actually KNOW each other.
