Now that the dust has settled, what did you think of "Your Name"?
It is the 4th highest-grossing film by box office revenue in Japan.
Do you think that's justified?

I loved it and it deserved all of its success
I really don't care about boy meets girl story #436573694237786258728626.
As opposed to hero's journey story #436573694237786258728626 or what?
It was an animated art book with a shit soundtrack.
I liked it, but it was hardly perfect. I don't particularly care about rankings.
>It's another boy meets girl melodrama with supernatural elements and muh pretty colors
Sugoiiiii so original, very niceu desu
I think a boy falls in love with a girl
I liked it, but I forgot her name
Now that I think about it, I cannot remember any of their names
Why did they even like each other?
>he didn't date the sexy coworker
What a waste.
They were chatting regularly through their phones for an extended period of time and experienced the suspension bridge effect around their first irl meetup
Holy shit if I see another person start a topic with "now that the dust has settled" I'm going to nuke this fucking board.
Your fanfic/webcomic/AMVs aren't Keit-ai.
That's what I was going for
This.
It was really boring, I literally cannot comprehend how it did so well. Am I missing something?
>Begins with a cold open followed by an in medias res monologue to give the preceding events a sense of direction
>Incorporates all exposition in the first act into the characters' day to day lives.
>Accelerates as it progresses through the second and third acts
>Sharp cuts everywhere (think pen drop)
>Active soundtrack and nonstop visual flair
I can't see a way you'd find it boring besides a Doylian "it's just another romance".
So it's a boring as shit story directed in a decent manner. Fair enough.
The plot demanded it.
Pseud filter
>Film school 101
>Not boring
It really isn't "film school 101", that would be more heavy on establishing shots and direct continuity. Plus, as a number of Japanese critics noted, it follows more of a visual novel style narrative than a traditional film, particularly in regards to the introduction and the reset point onwards.
Even if it was though, tropes are not bad.
I wanted to like it but it was popular and being hyped up before it even released so I hate it and never let myself watch it
I watched it last night for the first time and liked it.
The only thing that pissed me off was at the end when they kept teasing the fact that they might never actually meet.
Its really nice and the animation is glorious.
Yea Forums hates it cus its popular
No. It's mediocre. 5cm was better.
>shit soundtrack
How to spot bait 101
