Why is this show so perfect Yea Forums?
straight to page 10 I suppose
>Not white
Give me 30 minutes.
Loved this show. Sad it ended.
And it's a shame that it wasn't just a little bit longer. Definitely one of my favorites
Yoshitoshi Abe's art is comfy as hell
Every girl looks so bullyable
What was your favourite moment?
I think it's in the eyes
The bird in the well was definitely a highlight. My favorite scene was the wing growing scene followed by the comfy scene of Reki cleaning Rakka's bloody wings afterwords. It was one of the most eerily beautiful scenes in the show
I rewatched this just now.
It's so fucking comfy and I love it. Thinking back on it, the show is all about depending on other people--you can't power through your issues alone.
Watching this show gave me the same feeling I got playing Shadow of the Colossus and Ico--that slow, contemplative feeling. The Haibane Renmei lore also reminded me a lot of those games.
That scene towards the end where the painting merges with reality and it starts to get all surreal. They also did great job with the music and how it paints the approaching train. Just thinking about it makes me want to rewatch it again.
youtube.com
Funny thing is that the Shadow of the Colossus composer also did the music for Haibane Renmei. And I definitely can see where you are coming from with the comfy atmosphere
Definetely one of the best scenes of the show. I was so relieved when Reki got saved
Which haibane would you fuck?
Wings in this moment so much bigger, than they actually are.
Checked
Never looked at them sexually but Rakka is the cutest so I would choose her
the soundtrack is so haunting. Anyone know of mroe songs like this (with harps and slightly eerie singing/melody?)
>youtube.com
They're definitely not very practical, but the wings make them 10 times cuter
I wish I knew. The song is one of a kind, and it's great. So is the rest of the OST
youtu.be
When Rakka looks up and closes her eyes as the snow starts falling in. The whole scene was beautiful but the way it ended just felt so perfect. She resolved her trauma and finally found peace, accepting whatever fate would come next.
Who's the best haibane?
>Haibane may not pass beyond the Walls of Glie.
>Haibane are not allowed to touch the walls.
>Haibane may only live in places that have been abandoned after prolonged use.
>Haibane are obligated to work in the town that hosts them.
>Haibane are forbidden from handling actual money; only their notebooks.
>Haibane may only wear used clothing.
I haven't watched this series yet. What are these weird rules for? The last one does not make sense at all.
>Sad it ended.
This. Reki's suffering deserved to be eternal.
I don't want to spoil why but the rules exist so that the Haibane don't become too content with their lives.
The show has a lot of mysteries including these, answering some and leaving a lot to the viewer. Hope that you give this show a chance
I love him.
Wish the show was just a little bit longer so a little bit more character development could have been squeezed out. I’d love to have seen a couple more episodes like the first few to flesh out the world as well as Rakka and Reki’s relationship. There’s so much potential to the Haibane Renmei universe that I’m surprised I haven’t seen more doujins of the show
Abe’s patreon

Texhnolyze is better
Haibane and Texhnolyze are my #1 and #2 favourite anime but they're way too different to compare.
I feel the same way, Nemu was the only side character that I felt got enough development. I thought they resolved Rakka's sinbound status a bit too fast too, just one more episode of them bonding over it would've satisfied me.
DELET
From the show all Haibane were pure and deserved redemption.
Haibane Renmei is my favorite anime!
I like both. You are comparing the incomparable and saying one is better than the other without providing any basis of your comparison makes you look dumb.
Rakka saving Reki.
That's a strange way to spell hug, but the answer is all of them.
While they were all great in their own ways, Reki was my favourite.
That's just evil.
youtube.com
Still makes me smile.
>without providing any basis of your comparison
Stop being so obtuse. There's one thing that both of these shows have in common, it's completely normal and common for people to compare them.
My theory is that Haibane need to realize they're dependent on other people and that that's good and proper. Also the town only gets traded used stuff from the outside, Glie is a haibane.
Kana and her stupid grin.
I dropped Texhnolyze like 4 episodes in because I found it extremely slow.
Would I like Haibane? It seems nice.
I love ABe too but I have to confess I'm not loving his modern method of colouring. It works for his more light-hearted doujins like Ryuushika but comparing this with the older Haibane art it just doesn't have the same feeling to it. The art's still amazing and I'd definitely welcome more but his older stuff is on another level.
First 4 or 5 episodes are world building. Remaining episodes are exploring the characters and resolution.
At least he didn't hit the wall like Nihei.
How would he fare if he woke up in Old Home?
RR was drawn digitally, of course it's going to look simpler
the atmosphere was definitely on point, and the ost is one of the few anime ones i consistently listen to. (god bless otani) i miss that solemn, arcadian world.
you know any other shows that hit the same notes?
It probably just depends on the circumstances and his mood. I'm pretty sure new Despera art is going to look like I'd expect it to
What lies beyond the town border?
Yoshitoshi Abe’s art makes me feel warm
Sora no Woto for a story that's got a similar atmosphere, girls hanging out in an abandoned building near a small European city and they start out SoL then get serious. I'm also thinking Aria and Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou but they're not as similar and don't have the same creeping peril. Girl's Last Tour maybe.
>tkmiz doing haibane fanart
you literally can't go sadder than that
The rest of the Hard-Boiled Wonderland narrator's mind.
This is my favorite show. Watching it in the winter when I feel melancholy, with the nostalgia it gives me, it's absolutely perfect.
Unfortunately it's so perfect there's nothing to add.
I was about to post that song, it's so fucking strong and probably my favorite out of the whole soundtrack. Did you know there is a lot of influence from nordic folk music in there?
Compare it to this: youtube.com
Is this from something? I've never seen this ABe work.
For the feeling of overcoming that darkness there's probably nothing that compares. I haven't found it at least.
He's really incredible at using strong colors and still making it look earthy and not gaudy.
Not the same user, but there is a couple of shows that hit the same note for me.
Houseki no Kuni - the world has a similar empty atmosphere and there is a struggle of finding oneself which is thematically similar
Kino no Tabi - mainly similar because of the atmosphere
Aria - more lighthearted, but also evokes the same kind of feeling in me at times
Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou - empty world, also makes me contemptative and has some existential questions.
Mushishi - very different premise, but the atmosphere is somewhat similar
What I hear other people recommend:
Sora no Woto, but I don't like how it focuses on cutesy and melodrama. But I guess the atmosphere can be similar at times.
Angel Beats? - was probably inspired by Haibane Renmei, but it's not all that similar
Shinsekai Yori - the setting is similar, but it feels different at least to me
Haibane Renmei is also often grouped together with Texhnolyze and Serial Experiments Lain, because of Abe. While not very similar, each of them certainly deserves a watch.
What happens in Sora no Woto when things get serious? I can't remember at all.
War starts again
>new Despera anything
really?
I'd also like to add Last Exile: it has some of the same aesthetic to it, though the plot is certainly faster paced
Other "chill crew hanging out on a wandering ship" anime is really my speed, like Eureka Seven and Drifting Dragons.
>Kino
Are there really no other whimsical journeys like this? Kino was perfect. The recent Kino anime never happened.
War breaks out nearby and nobody fucking dies
Hold on to hope, Despera soon!
I salute thee
Not that user but it's in one of his artbooks. There's so much I'd love to see as an anime in them.
>really?
Konaka confirmed that the production has begun and that it's happening. ABe said something about it in a RErideD interview too.
Sora no Woto had very definite deathflags, so I was genuinely happy when everything went well. Even the forced marriage plot went OK.
Last Exile is indeed a great show. It has a bit of the same kind of exploration to it. One thing I really love about it is how it starts out pretty small and before you know it you've been on quite a ride.
>Are there really no other whimsical journeys like this?
I can't think of any at the moment, Kino is pretty unique in that regard. Maybe Mushishi which I've already mentioned, but it isn't quite the same.
I've never actually watched the new Kino, but I see it ocassionaly pop up in the "quality" threads so I guess I know what to expect.
it felt amazing to have some grace
Kino LNs are amazing, a lot of the stories are way more hardcore than the ones that got adapted and there's a lot of variety.
>Did you know there is a lot of influence from nordic folk music
I didn't and now that you mention it, it really does feel similar. There is something melancholic about both the ost and the song you posted (which is really nice by the way), also a similar choice of instruments. Reminds me of this one.
youtube.com
This character design really reminds me of ABe.
>Kino is pretty unique in that regard
That's a shame. Personally I'd quite like to see one from the perspective of a lone sailor. What you don't see in Kino is any trace of a language barrier, which a real person navigating the Med or Baltic or the high seas would certainly encounter. Then again, considering the tower building episode, perhaps the curse of babel had yet to be applied.
Oh damn, that's clearly inspired by the same tune.
I also think of Sinikka Langeland who uses a Finnish instrument that I think is the instrument that appears in GuP.
What is GuP
I think ABe studied under Murata or something. First time I watched Last Exile I actually thought it was ABe who had done it. Murata's faces are a bit more pudgy though.
Girls und Panzer dude.
>This character design really reminds me of ABe.
It's Range fucking Murata. His and ABe's style go hand in hand.
Gaisokyu
>a bit more pudgy
Yes it did strike me as something I'd be more likely to see in a cute girl anime than Last Exile. Guess they got there anyway with the abomination that is Senpai. Fuck I'm remembering how many of these spin-offs/sequels/remakes have ruined anime that I grew up watching. Last Exile, Eureka Seven, and Kino being central.
Oh I thought of one, Ergo Proxy has a fair bit of that travelling at the whim of the wind. It's a much darker piece, but it still has that whimsical note to it, thanks in part to Pino.
Ghibli Jr.'s Tales of Earthsea is also pretty comfy, in a similar manner to Haibane and to a lesser extent Kino at the start.
>want to type f a m as in the last exile sequel
>forget about wordfilter
>even hiroshimoot doesn't want me bringing up its name
probably not related in any way, but i find that the "starting of the world" track from the ost reminds me a lot of this moondog one youtu.be
>Ergo Proxy has a fair bit of that travelling at the whim of the wind
The episode in which they were stranded was so fucking good.
Oh and Wolf's Rain too.
It's hoenstly the only episode I even like.
My thoughts exactly.
CMON YOU STUPID WIND
I laughed. At first I thought you meant Senpai as in Welcome to the NHK which ABe also did character design for and was ready to fight you.
>Are there really no other whimsical journeys like this?
Ashinano Hitoshi, the YKK mangaka, had another manga with these kids flying a Piper Cub around a Japan where everything was 10 times bigger, there was plenty of whimsy in that.
desu senpai baka onions the original Last Exile wasn't that well-put-together either, a lot could have been done better, to the point that Pham wasn't as much of a step down as other Bones sequels. That said I could not be bothered to watch after they went to Russia, just lost interest.
I want to have slow gentle sex with Reki
Stop this at once
I've heard Konobata Lane (I may be spelling it wrong) by him is also good.
You're right we should start with cuddling and handholding
HR ruined Angel Beats for me. So obviously inspired yet doesnt come close to it in any quality.
This looks kind of digital.
>tfw Despera will never happen and we will forever be cockblocked from more work from the same creative group
Will look into it.
Never give up
I have to commend how mature Haibane Renmei fanbase seems to be. I usually don't realize how bad some of the other threads are until I look in the ones such as this one.
I agree, it's threads like these that make browsing this site worth it.
ABe and GuP threads are the only reason I still come here
That's because Mexicans don't like Abe shows.
>you know any other shows that hit the same notes?
NieA_7 definitely has the same undertones despite having a rather different story entirely.
>The manga revolves around Mayuko, a poor, introverted student who lives above a Japanese bathhouse, and NieA, a freeloading, freewheeling alien who lives in her closet, who is considered an outcast by her own kind.
I love the show but GuP threads are too lewd for me.
Ay carimba
I want to read all day with Nemu
Love how every thread about anime involving Abe usually ends up with discussion about and appreciation for his art
It’s definitely really have threads like these wish we had more
I think I had a seizure while writing that. It’s definitely really refreshing to have threads like these is what I meant
Almost an hour later, no mexican has shown to refute this. I conclude this statement is true.
Agree, but I guess it's fine we don't have these more often. After a while, people would have nothing new to discuss anymore and it would probably devolve into comparing the character's asses or some other form of shitposting similar to we see in the other threads.
hey all, thank you for the recommendations. i loved kino, shuumatsu and mushishi, so guess there's plenty to dig in to.
tried getting into sora no woto a while back, but despite the setting being right up my alley, i unfortunately didn't dig the sol parts, so never finished it. houseki sounds good, and i've heard it should be an example of 3dcg done properly, so i'll def check it out. aria and ykk look really comfy- also love choro club. guess i'd also better check out abe's other stuff. thanks again!
Rakka a cute! CUTE!!
That’s probably it. At some point it just becomes weird to continue discussing a show. But it’s pretty impressive that this show is still able to generate a decent amount of discussion on Yea Forums
Do their wings twitch when they orgasm?
HnK seemed pretty weird at the beginning but I ended up loving it probably somewhere during the winter arc.
Aria is SoL, but it's one of my favorites despite not liking Sora no Woto very much. Just don't expect too much of an overreaching plot at the beginning. It's all about the setting, the atmosphere and the characters. It's not like nothing happens at all, you see the characters develop and move forward with their lives, especially in the third season, but it sure is a long run. Also, music by Choro Club is great and they did amazing work in Aria.
The thing I love about Haibane Renmei, and a few other anime, is that the ambiguity keeps discussion alive. This show's almost 17 years old and still gets talked about because there's always someone wondering what's over the wall, what happens after your Day of Flight, who the Toga are etc. They might even bring up a question that hasn't been thought about in years and because there's no real answer we can have new views on old topics to make them feel fresh again. I'm sure people will be still talking about this anime 20 years from now.
This one, obviously. Sadly, it's not the same without sound.
Sora no Woto is Haibane Renmei done right.
He has some kind of aesthetic sense of his own that you can see particularily in the environments. There's some kind of bohemian, rustic and a bit chinese/art deco thing going on, mixed with old Europe in Glie. Think about the windows in Old Home for example. It made it feel like the show took place somewhere with a culture all of its own.
This anime is certainly a classic for the reasons you brought up and it makes me happy to think that in the future more people will find this show and fall in love with it all over again
do you think it’s one of their erogenous zones
All that character development and world building for 2 ep. climax that was poorly done and explained. Shame because it was comfy.
What an awful opinion. The new years episode alone was fantastic.
>that was poorly done and explained
either bait or retarded
go away
I wanted to mention this as well. And it's not the stupid kind of ambiguity where not even the author knows what he wants. It's intentional and done masterfully. You are nudged in one direction or the other, given a clue here and there, but ultimately you have to figure things on your own. Even then, some things are left unexplained which is a good thing in my opinion.
For me, that's what art should be all about. It should make you wonder, inspire you in some way. It has been many years since I first watched the show, but I still think about it from time to time and it will probably stay with me for the rest of my life.
Wow I could never find a solid way to describe the aesthetics Abe brings to life. This is definitely worth looking into because I thought the setting was one of the best and unexplored aspects of Haibane Renmei. Old home is absolutely stunning to look at
Because it is true.
To me it feels like a discount version of Haibane Renmei. It's definitely more superficial of the two.
>girls in the millitary setting to pander to wehraboos
>despite that, they act extremely cute and aren't fit for the millitary at all
>usual unoriginal tropes like "the tsundere", "the shy genius", "the caring onee-san"
>relies on too much unnecessary drama and teenage angst
>the war is prevented in the most cliché way possible by having the main character play a song that brings everyone together
Don't get me wrong, it's a solid 7/10 for me, but I don't think it can compare to Haibane Renmei.
This
I really like the rug in Rakka's room. It has kind of a 70's color scheme. Pic is also one of the best scenes in the show to me.
If the afterlife is even half as comfortable as Old Home I'd be a satisfied spirit. I feel sorry for the Abandoned Factory Haibane, it doesn't look like a very nice place to live.
you dont talk about haibane or tex you trash
i loved that sort of warm yet muted color palette they had for the show. think kino no tabi had the same look to it, and they were both very pleasant to look at (apart from the scan lines meme)
Maybe there's more to it that we didn't see. Wasn't there another place, too?
YKK has my favorite ending in all of fiction.
Never really paid attention to the rug before but it’s a nice touch. Also this scene was heartbreaking but it made me love Reki even more
The color palette is great in this show. In an interview I remember Abe saying that he noticed that most TV anime color palettes that looked fine in production ended up with too many bright colors on when it aired on TV. He went out of his way to hold back, despite the uncertainties of the staff and the show ended up being one of the most visually pleasing ones out there
Haibane shouldn't be worshipped. They have a place on the side of the traditional social structure, they are important, they are arguably the reason why the entire world exists, but they aren't to be worshipped.
That's because they are there for redemption. If people worshipped them, then it would all come for naught. Haibane can only wear used clothing. They can only take abandoned houses. They can't handle money. The entire world of Haibane Renmei were created for them, but they must never forget their places, and the fact that it is a purgatory. They are not to be worshipped: only helped in their journey.
That's a nice picture but the perspective is kind of botched. The hands should have been made bigger.
There probably is a nice little living area in the factory we didn't see, they only showed us a few angles of it, but industrial areas just don't feel habitable to me. I think a farmhouse full of artisans was mentioned in a book or interview, it would've been nice to see that too but I suppose they ran out of time or budget.
good show
Good post
That's interesting, I would have liked to see that but I also like how few they seem to be.
good observations
Good thread
Good girl
Wow this thread is a lot livelier than these tend to be. Very nice.
why did this adorable little cinnamon roll kill herself anyway
I want to know, and yet I don't want to know because not knowing adds so much.
good or moderate, occasionally poor
She also smells good.
I want to rewatch it but I don't want to see reki suffering again.
Well, at the very least you get to see her redeemed again, so there's that.
nah, there's definite differences from HBW since its not just in Rakka's mind or anything, everyone has an obvious personality. I think it was more of the walled city setting inspired by the the book, not as much the overall plot.
She was bullied
Is it just a coincidence that her true name involves nuts?
All the haibanes are for light teasing only
This is probably intentional. I never noticed that.
The abandoned factory is obviously another setpiece for Haibane.
Some Haibane would prefer the peace of the of the Old Home. That's the environment for them: peaceful, without worry or conflicts. Some others would prefer the conflict of the abandoned factory. All the Haibane we've seen from the abandoned factory were wilful, roguish, willing to go the extra length. It makes sense that there is several spawn points for Haibane, depending on the character of the Haibane in question.
They still seek redemption, don't get me wrong, but the abandoned factory's path toward it is slightly more marred in conflict. Even then, it's all copacetic. The abandoned factory's Haibane do not suffer beyond what is necessary for their own redemption. It's just that they own path toward is would be more fulfilled with a more roguish approach.
I forget, are they able to move from one to the other?
What's your favorite bit of the OST? I love how it masters both bright and absolutely crushing dark.
youtube.com
So comfy. Ailes Grises is good too.
The slower version of Ailes Grises that plays at the end of episode 8 is so beautiful, it's brings tears to my eyes whenever I hear it. It doesn't show up on any of the soundtracks though so I can't listen to it very much. (What is up with ABe shows and incomplete soundtracks anyway? Texhnolyze has the same problem.)
hard to pick one, but i love this slower version of rustle youtu.be
Can't pick one, I tried and ended up with more than 10 that I can't choose between. Really love that OST.
That was great. I don't know if I've heard it in any OST though, I hope I'm wrong.
I love posts like these they’re so well written and pleasing to read
As far as I remember, no, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. But if you were more adapted for Old Home you would have been born in Old Home: that's exactly the reason why there are so many children in Old Home. Their reincarnation needed to happen in the conflict-free setpiece.
The Abandoned Factory is obviously there to handle the Haibane with more "edgy" personalities. It's not a hell, but it's there to focus them and help them. The Abandoned Factory is a decent place, but more on the conflict side of things. Slightly more difficult, which is the point for the souls that need that kind of ordeals to feel alive. Not a bad place, but not a good place for children too, which is why children are born in the Old Home.
>The souls that need ordeals to feel alive
Yoshii would definitely end up there.
Didn't Lain, too?
such a masterpiece
I want to move to Glie.
So do I, it's such a wonderful little town.
Little Reki.
Cute!
Suicide is unironically the way
There has to be another way though, because most of the haibane seem to be untainted by sin.
I'm surprised I've never seen a noose edit with Glie on the other side.
Well, technically speaking, you'll be put in a cocoon first so initially there is not too much to see on the other side..
Me too user me too
Thankfully, HBW wasn't half as powerful as HR.
I believe the sinbound state isn't something you're "born" with if you committed suicide but it's something that happens to a Haibane when their mental state degrades to how it was before they died. Rakka losing her friend Kuu and Reki waking up alone in a dark, boarded up room both brought back the despair that lead to their deaths so their wings turned black.
One thing I'm not sure how to explain though is the missing dream memories. If you are born sinbound and forgetting the dream is a symptom of that then why isn't Rakka born with black wings, and if my theory is right that anyone can become sinbound if they get depressed enough then how do I explain that the only two Haibane that forgot part of their dream were the only two to become sinbound? Haibane are complicated creatures.
Considering theory that you have to have some kind of plans or role you were unable to fulfill in your past (current) life, it's not even reliable in any shape or form. Please, don't do it.
HBW was really, really forgettable. I like some of Murakami's books but I can't remember much of the plot of HBW outside of the walled town and shadow stuff. Has Murakami commented on Haibane Renmei before?
>>despite that, they act extremely cute and aren't fit for the millitary at all
Going to take issue with this one - that's the entire point, the world's in such a crappy place they have to send their most vulnerable to war, the only reason the old guys were surprised at Konata being on the train in uniform was because the draft should have been (temporarily) over. This ties into tragedy of the dead soldier's story because their hardship is a consequence of his defeat, and also to the maiden sacrifice theme, because you can't just sacrifice the sluts everyone hates, they have to be good and pure enough to be a god's bride, and that ties into the Amazing Grace theme, because the fort maidens are basically Christ.
Agree on the others.
Maybe if you're a girl. I wonder if the artisan farmhouse is boys-only.
She didn't, she just died in despair.
This show has haunted me for a long, long time. It's influenced my own writing in many ways. Especially the crow, the spirit of someone Rakka once knew who crossed the wall to bring her a message.
The story was sad and melancholic and beautiful and bittersweet... but there was just too much bitterness for me to fully accept. It's nagged at me ever since; the injustice, the wounded souls crying out for help, with only silence answering them. And it always comes back to me, every time I find another story with some similar themes, or even scenery that reminds me of Haibane Renmei. Some part of me rebels against the idea of a cry for help going unanswered, of everyone that once loved you forgetting you, of being sealed away behind barriers of every sort to battle your demons alone.
It might not be possible to catch a falling angel. But if there's one thing I'm sure of, it's that there's always, always someone willing to try.
thanks for coming to my TED talk
The actual afterlife
Alright, I'm willing to budge. It has been some time since I saw it and I don't remember the whole picture. I thought they all came voluntarily and were conveniently placed to that remote base. I got that maiden part, but it still seemed a bit cheesy. The show itself is good, but maybe I just came with too high expectations, because people were telling me it's just like Haibane Renmei.
Episodes 7 and 12 are the highlights, the rest is average. Skip Episode 8.
There are a lot of similarities but honestly it's just like Sora no Woto.
Speaking of girls in the factory, we needed more Midori.
Be the change you want to see. I've always been looking for one though.
It's just a dumb meme, they're nothing alike.
The kids would want to mess with his stache.
The red-shirted ayy from Lain
What about cute girls doing cute things in a mysterious, relaxing, and perilous world could possibly draw the comparison?
Too right, she's very cute when she's not angry.
Okay, but does HR have a piss episode?
>Would I like Haibane?
Try it. Definitely better. Texh was so fucking slow and boring I though the studio dropped the ball and lost it forever.
It has all the episodes with Hikari in them
RUDE!
Texhnolyze is great, but generally it's not a "fun" thing to watch though it gets better towards the end. For me, it's greatly enjoyable to decode the meaning and the message it tries to convey afterwards, but I guess that isn't for everyone.
I must be a weirdo because I honestly had a blast watching Ichise falling all over the place at the beginning. His intense desire to live was inspiring.
I guess the similarities are there, but not where it matters. Cute girls doing cute things in a mysterious setting just isn't quite the thing that sets it apart from the other shows. If that was the case, you could also say, for example "Urara Meirochou is just like Haibane Renmei".
Yeah, that's all nice but the ultra slow pacing killed it. If people fall asleep in the middle, there's no helping it, no matter how brilliant it is trying to convey a message.
Hmm yes I remember the pervasive melancholy of the belly button show
The normal world, presumably. Simple human folks go in and out to provide supply and services normally.
Lolicon Eyepatch Maid has a girl in a bearsuit, so it's just like Lain!
I thought the Toga all wore masks.
Hale Nochi Guu unironically covers the same philosophical ground as Lain but better.
>Simple human folks go in and out to provide supply and services normally.
No, the townsfolk aren't allowed free entry and exit. It's possible for them to leave, since they don't magically react to the walls, but not to come back.
Yest, the Toga did.
Explain
Hale's video games are man's alienation from man with technology as the medium. Guu's stomach is the Wired. The weird little radish people are the "present day hahaha" guys.
I'm just finishing NieA_7 and I must say that of all ABe shows I've seen this one reminds me of Haibane Renmei the most. Mayuko reminds me of Reki -- she's independent and has lots of empathy towards other people (she's a kid, so she often gets angry at NieA, but the rest still stands).
I honestly love NieA's OP.
How depressing is this show? I'd like to watch it but not in the mod for depressing anime.
See for yourself. No one can tell how much a pussy you are, user.
Not necessarily, it just makes it unsuited to popular entertainment
I did too, but I can understand the other point of view as well. Though I must admit that except the will to live, I can't really relate to Ichise in many ways. Yoshii is the true main character.

In reality, every character is a clearly defined archetype and all their motivation and actions stem from that fact, it becomes crystal clear with no words needed and it all falls together like a puzzle. Not depressing, just sad at times. Good end though.
