I have pretty much zero interest in racing, let alone cars besides getting me from point A to point B, so how did this anime manage to hook me so hard that I watched every single episode?
What made it so good?

I JUST BEEN THIS PLACE BEFORE
It’s the fucking music
Every episode the eurobeat somehow perfectly matches the race no matter what, it’s amazing.
Is that really what did it? I can't really put my finger on what hooked me the entire time, but surely it can't just be it's amazing soundtrack.
For me the music is definitely the deciding factor, that’s why I can watch 10+ years old Initial D but not the new movies which choose rock music instead, the fucking faggots
the filmmaking is well done (even if it peaks in the first season). a really well shot excitingly edited example of something you don't necessarily care about is way more engaging than a shitty adaption of something you already liked. music is a big part of that too, but even without it the sequencing is really tight
DANCING
>tfw that one dude got cucked out of being with his soul mate because of a fucking traffic jam

I don't think I can stand the old CG animation if I watched it again. The music was definitely part of the enjoyment. The Legend trilogy was only watchable for me, because someone added in the Eurobeat.
It's literally a music video for SEB
It's just a sports anime in the form of street racing. It's a popular format.
how did it do it in manga form though?
desu watching Takumi do his business with a shitty car is very satisfying despite being an invencible hero, i also find something very comfy about its setting, the night shots of the mountain streets and shit, up to season 3 it's a very immersive show
What does Yea Forums drive?
It's well directed, seriously.
Had some serious break issues as far as i can remember, but now that it's fixed it's feeling very alien
DAGUMI XDDD
I drive a shitbox 1999 Toyota Corolla that I've done plenty of work on. I'm thinking of 1JZ swapping a MKiii supra now that I'm out of college to use as my project/fun car.
01 Teggy.
wtf i drive one of these shitboxes too. you must be from brazil because in europe the sandero is from dacia, here they rebranded to renault
Reminder that the BD batch is out.
Oh, i was wondering if posting it would give away my true identity
Looks like a really shitty BD
Theres the darkdream batch out recently. Your image was from 2017. Got the ho timestamp? I could try check it out in this release.
I kinda liked cars and now I can't stop thinking about driving, benching and racing.
It made me research far much more about mechanics, proper driving technique. Also it opened my knowledge about different type of cars, and started memorizing and recognizing different brands and models far easier.
I give credit to the music, in combination with a pretty technical dialog.
In don't know, but i love it.
I dd a 2006 Mazda 3
But my project car is a 1975 Holden Belmont ute
I watched this series for the first time two years ago and thought the prehistoric cg animation was actually pretty charming.
2002 eclipse and a katana I bought because of bakuon
Don't underestimate the effect of a good soundtrack. It (and sound design in general) are basically 50% of what decides whether I watch a show or not.
I have a Teneré 250.
Great for traveling long distances.
Darkdream encodes are good but the problem is the BD itself for First Stage is hot garbage since it's a shit upscale job without the masters.
Yeah, cant be helped if the source is shit themselves.
Racers don't need girlfriends anyway.
How was the remake? did it have eurobeat?
>long distances.
>dualsport
Not as good in that as his older brother.
An 11 year old Accord.
It's pretty confortable IMO.
Went all the way to Argentina with it.
>What made it so good?
Shingo.
I drive your Mom nuts.
Seriously tho I use a company car, usually some bmw, I dgaf.
Is anything beyond the first season worth watching? How's the manga?
Yes.
MF Ghost is also good.
Takumi becomes a cripple[/spoler]
I'm a bus rider
people will say the eurobeat. That's not wrong, but there is also the dramatic reactions and bystanders commentary. It's like watching DBZ characters fighting, but with cars.
One of the reasons it works so well is the author created a well written small town group dynamic entirely by accident. You can see the whole thing fall apart once it leaves Gunma and most of the characters from there behind.
I guess you could say the show goes downhill fast
Every single race has ample buildup, and usually introduces a great, entertaining character that faces Takumi. The side cast is terrific, and one of the best parts of the series. After 3rd Stage, it becomes a race of the week slog that skips the characterization and SoL aspects that made the first half of the series so strong.
Oh, and it has the best soundtrack ever.
