selective teleportation is a hell of an OP spell, if anything. practically insta-kill, only nerfed a bit by his bad depth perception

In retrospect, making Misurn have teleportation combat + bad sense of space/direction is really smart in terms of combat, that way it makes sense that he doesn't/can't just 1-shot enemies by teleporting shit into their brains like he tried to do with Farlyn. Makes him have to be a little more creative, and give enemies a better chance of countering/dodging his attacks.

I mean for something as large as Farlyn ((plus that the canaries probably have similar levels of monster knowledge as Laius)) trying to take out internal organs is probably just a waste of time, since you don't know how many they have or where exactly they're located, going for the brain is at least ((mostly)) a surefire method, even if its harder for Misurn.

it doesn't seems to be selective, so much as it is a transposition spell. he teleports the whole object he touches, but whatever he teleports it into gets a that-thing-shaped chunk taken out. this makes sense when you think about just teleporting into air, like you'd want to. it's just that he teleports things into other things which you normally don't actually want to do. this actually just seems like a much more thought-out form of teleportation. most of the time, if you think even a little deeply about teleportation there's a ton of physics issues that are just glossed over by it. straight swapping matter between two points but not momentum/relative energy answers a bunch of them.

The only thing he wanted to kill instantly so far was farlyn. Humans all had their heads above ground and they needed to interrogate Thistle

there are krakens in that lake, it would probably be dead. also, he didn't necessarily know there was a lake there. he just teleported it three or four stories away. at best he teleported it down intentionally, at worst it could've been teleported 20-something feet into the sky or solid rock for all he knew.

Elves already have the secret to immortality, remember Falrin's childhood where an elf sold a ring that trapped souls (exactly what the dungeon does) to some farmer, farmer died and his "ghost" was trapped right there with the corpse. It's more likely that elves don't want their magical technology to spread.

And what you're saying is that bad sense of direction is a requirement for a teleportation spell to work? It's not like Misurn is the only one who can learn it, just imagine it withour a handicap, shit is so strong it makes other combat spells look irrelevant, it's basically ultimate killing technique, and it's also flexible, you can just obstruct your target by cutting it's limbs.

I really doubt it was a matter of not being able to put kabru through a wall, and purely a matter of not wanting to. he'd been cooperative up to that point, him stopping the captain could've been due to Kabru knowing or noticing something just as likely as a betrayal. the elves are brutal, but clearly pretty calculating too. it would've been worth his time to find out specifics before planting the human in the floor.

the only reason he did that was because he was being actively attacked. Because the worldbuilding is good, the art and character interactions are great and nuanced, and it doesn't feel like the author is making shit up as she goes along.

This seems too semantic to make an important rule out of, and there's not much logical backing.
Overloading it in a controlled setting is the safest relative method (compared to the elf squad fighting a dungeon master at full power, potentially dying and the dungeon overloading when there aren't specialists on hand to contain it and protect the civilians) and also the fastest. He was trying to do his job and get out.

Kabru's actually a great fighter, which you can see in the chapter where Farlyn first shows up. He just doesn't know anything about monsters, so he doesn't know their weak points.

Well boburin slayer is mostly devoid of video game mechanics, though it falls somewhat close to tabletop mechanics (what with spells per day and such) instead. It basically comes down to whether you're putting any effort into your magical system. Berserk is arguably a "magic fantasy story" and it hardly has much more than a vague resemblance to tabletop magic systems with regards to enchanted items. For a high-magic fantasy you're basically stuck with stories where the magic system is core to the story, like Witch Hat Atelier or Knights and Magic. "The Legendary Hero is Dead"'s demon crystal-based magic is fairly simple but still somewhat unique.

Problem is, magic is such a vague thing that you need to come up with rules on how it can't be abused. Video games are unironically a good way to look for properly balanced magic systems. But that doesn't mean you have to stick with cliche RPG magics. Some minecraft mods have some pretty good spell weaving techniques.
I also quite like the Abhorsen series' take on magic, in case anyone here has read that. The existence of a raw but corrupting magic is good for storytelling purposes, and adds much flavour.

Personally I'd base a magic system around conservation of energy, where the caster simply converts one form into another. Mainly kinetic energies (heat, sound, and linear/angular motion), but probably light, gravitational potential energy, electrostatic potential energy, and maybe even magnetic fields too. The E, M, light combination would be difficult to worm together. A mage would usually need to store a reservoir of energy on him at all times, since that that can be readily harvested from one's body is insufficient. Capacitor banks, steam tanks, near-lossless resonant cavites for sound or light, it would be pretty steampunky having these heavy kits being carried about.

The captain mentioned that he'll age rapidly upon exciting the dungeon due to artificially extending his life with dungeon magic. If he doesn't die and turn to dust they'll probably recruit him if he's obedient enough. Of course they'll try to extract the secret of immortality out of him before they let him out in case he does die of old age.

Another thing is that it shows that Laius' initial plan on just moving Farlin outside of dungeon once they remove the sorcerer's control won't work, She won't survive with low mana density.
