Probably. 3DCG cancer cannot properly express the 2D style. Even fucking HNK suffers from this disease.

>Why did Kentaro Miura want this?
He didn't want it, obviously, but it's extremely difficult to adapt faithfully.

It's cheaper and faster to just use 3d cgshit. No one cares to put the effort into doing the manga justice. It's sad, anime as a medium is dying because of laziness and greed like this. It's fuelling overproduction.

>Is Berserk 2016 the worst manga-to-screen adaptation ever?
Either Berserk or Aku no Hana.

What am I looking at in this pic? Why are there two different versions?

Aku no Hana is more of a semi live adaptation, it’s a specific style that of course was gonna be very different from the stylized original.

Left is from that abortion of a tv series, right is from the Manga PV that came out around 7 years ago.(youtube.com/watch?v=3pzIQ54cwiA) Toho had no faith in the source material so they didn't fund a proper adaptation.

Anime/Manga styled art don't have 3d models but just trick your brain into thinking that they do.(with grading and keeping certain elements consistent) They actually transform while giving the illusion of a rotating object. Using 3dcg essentially forces these artistic styles(transformations) to use 3d models. This results in the shape looking awkward/weird. The hand drawn PV is able to express the manga's art properly and faithfully unlike the cheap cgi in the tv series.

The 3dcg in the tv series also cant express Cinnabar's mercury properly.

Here is the Manga and Original PV for comparison. The mercury and pretty much everything aside from maybe some refraction and hair looks vastly better here.

Just by looking at this , left version looks good and had more details in parts like the eyes, but I'm guessing it doesn't look as good in motion?

You're trolling right? It may look okay in a vacuum but the shape looks off, not like the manga. The eyelashes are a stupid insignificant detail when they can't even get the important stuff right. The left additionally has no detail in the background whatsoever.

God the left looks atrocious, they really fucking butchered it. And the lunarians aren't even the worst part.

The source material wasn't much better.

>it's another out of context screenshot somehow speaking for the whole presentation that is meant to be viewed in motion

Berserk '16 is garbage and HnK isn't perfect but it still makes for a great experience in its own right.

>and HnK isn't perfect but it still makes for a great experience in its own right
I agree. OP is a 10/10, ED is a 7.5/10, OST is great in general. The story is one of the best in years. The 3DCG however is just bland, lazy and sterile. An excuse to get out of hand crafting something difficult. It can't express the Manga's style properly, it fails to capture the essence of it's world. The CGshit only gets a pass because everything else is so good. HnK 2017 is akin to a live action "adaptation" of manga if you can even call such things true adaptations.

This.

I'm not joking. Didn't read the manga and based on those two shots, both have their better and worse points. The top of the head is clearly better on the left for one thing, which is what the eye looks at mainly.

Yep.

Right: SOUL

Left: SOULLESS

The original PVs also actually take advantage of the medium with the way they distort light refraction. I find that really compelling. The tv series is just a soulless, boring, carbon copy of reality. Part of the cancer killing the medium.

The guy is memeing you, HnK has awesome animation.

You can dislike the CG as much as you like, but it's most certainly not bland or lazy. It's just a stylistic choice.

Personally i would say Overlord.

Fucking this. The abominable shit is forced into everything.

He's not memeing at all. It's generic ps4 tier cgi.

Miura probably needed money for Idolg@cha. 1000 dresses were bought for the Mobile Idols with the Copyrights' money.

>but it's most certainly not bland or lazy.
Well i guess you would think that if your standards are in the gutter.

>It's just a stylistic choice.
That's not what the production or industry circumstance indicate but i guess white knights like you will defend anything.

ps4 tier for a cartoon look is hardly bad. Litterally the only part that the ps4 wasn't good enough at is the cleans outlines, but anime cg doesn't have that anyway.

The tv series looks like fucking shit. Only the newest of newfags think that trite looks.

Overlord is LN to anime adaptation.

It doesn't express the manga's art properly. It had a job and it fucking failed.

can you prove it with comparisons, then?

read the thread newfag

OPM S2 begs to differ

that one pic that was posted doesn't even compare with the manga, and the anime frame looks fine.

Attached: chozeyoufool.jpg (914x924, 447K)

oh shit you're right lmao. It's probably the worst LN to anime adaptation though.

Attached: senior_comparison.jpg (2710x1207, 2.02M)

Stop pretending to be retarded. The shape looks off, it's not supposed to be 3d. Certain expressions can only be conveyed though 2d drawings/transformations that represent objects. This is a known problem with 3d and expression of anime/manga styles.

This really gets me.

I know that. But you didn't post anything about the anime proving me that it looks bad. Hell the face here on the left is 100% better than on the right no matter how you see it.

>Hell the face here on the left (You) is 100% better than on the right no matter how you see it.
That's fucking horseshit and you know it.

left looks like blurry shit dude

This. The cgi they used for genos's arms looked absolutely disgusting. All because they lack the talent to do it properly by hand.

>left looks like blurry shit dude

that's definitely because it's a bad screenshot.

This makes me so mad. The manga deserved better.

The whole presentation of the show is made around it being CG, with other stylistic choices like camera work, the hair, the lunarians as uncanny, otherworldly force all to evoke certain feelings that you don't get in 2D. It's not perfect and does require you to really give it a chance but they could have easily (badly) animate it in 2D if they wanted.

>The whole presentation of the show is made around it being CG
Funny considering how hard it tried to mimic traditional animation and fails.

3D can do it just fine. Arksys manages it for their video games.

Not that guy but it's looks like total shit compared to the stylised PV. They absolutely fucking butchered it.

Attached: 12943458293084305.png (2560x2159, 2.76M)

It doesn't though, it's doesn't fucking look the same. "just fine" fails to capture the true essence of 2D.

First post best post.

This is indefensible.

Left:
>Complex stylised cel shading overlayed with a gradient.
>surreal black sparkles
>faithful style to the manga

Right:
>soulless reproduction of reality
>looks like plastic
>grading is boring and exactly as it occurs in reality

Left is pure shit.

>extremely difficult to not make one of the most famous fantasy stories in the world look worse than the worst seasonal trash
2016 makes OPM s2 look like the sistine chapel in comparison. There is no excuse, someone should be in prison for that crime against art.

This I read the manga before watching and god Aku no Hana was such a massive disappointment.

>All because they lack the talent to do it properly by hand.
True. Back in the day doing this by hand wasn't a problem but since 3dcg is cheaper and faster they don't train traditional animators. It's killing anime.

like that idol master addict gives a fuck

Lurk moar.

The left looked so beautiful, oh my god. What a fucking travesty 2017 was.

At least we got the soundtrack.

Yea. The PV was faithful. Looks almost perfectly like the manga just with color. The tv series looked weird and 3d, reminds me of the characters in kado but in a bad way.

As well as the mercury looking miles better, everything is visually coherent too. There's no clashing like in the tv series where janky 3d character models would juxtapose against the painted backgrounds. Definitely appreciate that.
