Yeah, as much as I despise 3.0, the real problem is Anno never committed with a single vision. He wanted us to hate Shinji for being a selfish brat and side with Willie but the way pretty much the entire world treat him let a sour taste. Shinji never had a say in the entire thing and he's blamed for everything while all the assholes are treated like saints. I guess Kaworufags and Asukafags are OK with that because they only care about their virtual partners but as a moral tale, 3.0 is morally repulsive.

Rebuild is definitly not one to use as a moral tale:
-Asuka is in trouble
-Shinji is scared to hurt one of his friends, so he does nothing
-Asuka gets badly injured and it's his fault for being passive
-Rei is in trouble
-Shinji has learned his lesson from last time, and will take action to save her
-Inadvertently destroys half the world AND everyone blames him AND he didn't even save her
So might as well not even try.
I guess the only real moral is that the universe hates Shinji.

More like Anno hates himself and he's projecting too damn hard on Shinji, forgetting Shinji is a fictional character and not himself. He didn't even want to make the fourth one but Miya-san convinced him. Besides, I don't think the problem with Asuka was inaction, his father wanted Shinji to kill her. Fuck the manga and try to guilt-ridden Shinji into piloting the damn robot, what a way of ruin one of the most solid moments of the anime.

3 wants you to identify with Shinji's confusion and frustration, understand how receptive it's made him to gaslighting, how he's accepting the story he's given while you stay a little suspicious because of scenes the movie showed to you but not Shinji, and realize he's just making a terrible mistake about when Central Dogma is shown. Adam & Lilith uniting is dangerous, but Like humans to Lilith, Evas can be seen as offspring rather than the original. I don't think there was any bigger danger of putting Rei in an Adamite Eva than there was in putting an A Lilith descendant in an Eva. Rei wasn't fully Lilith until EoE.

Lilith's soul is relevant to reintroducing to Lilith's body and resurrecting Lilith. Gendo cares about that because it's his secret turnabout plan, Seele don't give a fig, the scrap of Lilith inside of Unit 00 didn't make it especially dangerous to itself or others for an evangelion, the angel sticking its veins into Rei and talking to her soul didn't give a sign of recognizing it as anything special. The dangerous thing, focus of the Committee meetings, where Gendo says it all begins, what everybody's scenario became about controlling, was the S2 organ and Unit 01 getting it.
