Yotsuba's backstory is being unspooled all at once because big reveal doesn't actually make her any deeper than the characters who have already undergone development (Meeku excepted). Meta says Itsuki is also being built up for a power play sometime in the future.

He often takes notice when she's pushing herself. It makes me believe that he already suspects that Yotsuba is lolikano and Rena/Itsuki only acts as her proxy, but he doesn't pry into it because he knows that Yotsuba feels too ashamed to face him after breaking the promise they made.
