They're criticisms about Naruto. Kishi's involvement in this is a double edged sword. some [people like it because they liked Naruto and some people hate it because they hated Naruto.

As someone who read Naruto sporadically and didn't care much for it I'm hyped for this manga. It's a rough start and the art was a bit hard to discern in the earlier chapters due to lack of shading but I love the 9,0000,000AD fantasy magic technology setting and it has good potential.

This chapter needed to be like the second, honestly. There was so much in media res information scattered about early on, like WHAT a samurai is, what the goddamn locker ball is, what a bone hilt and samurai soul is, factions we don't know fighting each other, and Hachimaru wasn't being helpful with this because he already knew like 50% of this stuff or didn't care, so we got extremely vague explanations.

From this chapter we now know that "princesses" are magical girls who can unearth the transformation seeds that turn people into the cyborgs called "samurai", the samurai's pet conceals the hilt and the samurai the blade, and samurai are used as the weapons to protect the planet and need to protect their creator princess to gain true strength. This is stuff we needed to learn about much earlier to not start out confused.

Good question. I feel like I don't care too much about this opening a new question because it'll probably get answered in time and we actually got a decent, reasonable explanation for the basis of the stupid thing already.

The issue comes with your definition of "samurai", which Kishimoto shows isn't the definition for "samurai" in this series. Like how "shinobi" in Naruto ended up being more "wizards" than "ninja". Your own pre-determined bias clouds it, and that's not at all your fault. Kishimoto just didn't do a very good job of explaining until this point.

The word you meant to use was "credit". Kishimoto is basically calling in a favor after creating one of the biggest franchises in Jump's history. That the way it goes in the movie business as well. "I create a blockbuster for you, so you let me try out my passion project next".

As for the new chapter, I liked it. I wasn't really on board with the first 5 chapters, but this one finally managed to give me a sense of structure as to where things might go. Introducing the princess concept, alongside the old hag and the young one, managed to flesh out the world some more. I can finally sense factions arising from this. Also helps that the princess is a cutie and as a short term goal, I can at least look forward to Hachi and her meet up and the shenanigans that ensue from that. Hachi also managed to be kind of endearing this time with his back and forth with the cat, instead of just being there. Also helped to knock his abilities as a samurai a peg down between this and last chapter. It's still a bumpy road, but this was a step up. Shading is still kinda missing, but it didn't offend my eyes as much as before, maybe because the story finally managed to capture me a bit.

Yeah, the manga still has some problems establishing what Hachi's deal is atm. BTW his dog thing seems pretty fucking comfortable with its new functions right off the bat, considering it got its new body a few days ago, same as Hachi. I guess we simply need a larger frame of reference to see what other Samurai can do, to judge what it means that Hachi is still just a novice, despite having all the necessary tech at his disposal already. I think a lot of the early narrative dissonance came from not knowing how to judge the horse samurai. He seemed like some veteran, but was apparently just bottom tier trash, if he got beaten by a novice like Hachi.

Hmm, since the first chapter was kinda disorienting, because it threw all kinds of stuff at you, I went back and reread it. Actually, the ronin beat jack and shit. The fight at the beginning, between the two samurai was Hachi in his game. All the ronin did was bully his henchmen and get one free hit on Cat, when he held the father hostage. Before that, Cat was actually owning his ass. After that, the fight against Hachi, where he had the upper hand until Cat fucked his armor with a blow from the side. Then Hachi got the final hit with his crutch sword against the now unarmored ronin, while "sacrificing" his actual sword arm. Now that I got a better handle on the tech and terms, one could actually argue that the ronin was just a low level shrub, like Mizuki was in chp1 of Naruto.

Then the armor got blown to smithereens by master cat, so it came down to a simple one-strike duel, which Hachi then won thanks to his vidya skills. The Samurai was a shitter without any special techniques, beyond being able to summon the armor and soul sword. When he faced off against master cat, he got cut up and had to resort to trickery. Just go and reread the chapter.

If you read visual novel, there is Kikokugai, It's a game set in alternate universe where martial artists turn themselves into cyborgs, using enhanced body part. The MC is the exception, being 100% human. However, he is the follower of a school of martial art developed specifically to deal with cyborgs. Good game with great actions.

Kishimoto is the writer/storyboarder for S8. Main artist here is one of his former assistants, whose shading could use some improvement. Chapter 6 seemed to look a bit better to me, but it still could use improvement.

The thing I don't get is why does Kishi have to make it so complicated, with key this and ball that. Just look at Dragonball. Collecting 7 dragon balls to obtain a wish is easy to understand but still interesting.

Its not in the manga,The light novel featured her beating Hanabi in a naked duel when Hanabi asked her to come back home with the kids.(I dont remember the context much,but Hinata one shot Hanabi just breaking a sweat.)

She isn't fodder really,she has the strongest byakugan in the series after Kaguya(essentially 20 times stronger than shippuden Neji's byakugan as she can see 20 Km ahead while it was 800m with Neji,she might have increased the power of byakugan after Hamura chakra)
Also she is stated to be the strongest hyuga and master of all hyuga techniques including techniques that are practiced by only the main branch(like the twin lion fist)in the data books.
