Sexuality is the defining issue when it comes to otaku

>Sexuality is the defining issue when it comes to otaku.
>To put it very crudely, what distinguishes an otaku from a non-otaku is whether he is able to “get release” with an anime character.
>Most of the objects to which otaku find themselves attracted are “embarrassing” in one way or another. They can be very easily ridiculed for their infatuation with anime at an age when most people have moved on. As a defense against this, it is perhaps inevitable that they might want to give the appearance to others that they are “only pretending to be obsessed.”
>The image of the beautiful fighting girl contains every conceivable sexual perversion. It is easy to identify traces in it of homosexuality (the girl with a phallus), pedophilia, sadism, masochism, and fetishism. It is very nearly an image of polymorphous perversion itself.
>An examination of “otaku desire” provides some fascinating materials for tracing how imaginary forms of sexuality are transformed. No matter how much otaku may appear to be pedophiles, we cannot simply write them off as sexual perverts. The problem of otaku desire has to be considered first in relation to “fictional context.” Let us not forget that even as otaku adore images of beautiful young girls, they maintain quiet everyday lives as ordinary heterosexuals. The “Lolita complex” of the otaku is just an alibi for sexual perversion, or a method of fictionalizing sex.
>Fiction must establish a logic of sexuality all its own. This is because, in Japanese space, sexuality is the most important factor upholding reality (riariti).
Well, Yea Forums? Was he right?

>only pretending to be obsessed
This is a prediction of "weebs"

>every conceivable sexual perversion
I don't think he has very much imagination or experience.

have sex

Fuck, I gotta buy this book eventually

I read it when I went to japan for a university class , the author spends too much of the book describing Henry Darger's loli fantasies. Check out "otaku: japans database animals" instead. One day ill read "anime and the visual novel" which is on my backlog.

>have sex
Yeah, I read Azuma's book, and also "The Moe Manifesto." All pretty interesting, made me think more about reality and the state of the world than about anime. One major takeaway from all of it - the procedures and ideology of the "normal" are as fictional as the fantasies of the otaku. I think this book (Fighting Girl) laid that out more so than the others, but they all contributed.

>The image of the beautiful fighting girl contains every conceivable sexual perversion. It is easy to identify traces in it of homosexuality (the girl with a phallus), pedophilia, sadism, masochism, and fetishism. It is very nearly an image of polymorphous perversion itself.

Absolute pseudo-intellectual bullshit.

I too, fellow intellectuals, am subscribed to Pause and Select.

I don't know what that is. I read books

>(the girl with a phallus)
Stopped reading right there.
Why do psychoanalysisfags always, ALWAYS have to make out like everyone under the sun is a closeted faggot? Maybe I just like hot girls, did you think of that possibility?

You should seriously edit this to just remove all the pictures where she has the same blank stare, user. It's embarrassing every time I see it.

You are large, you contain multitudes.

That's the go-to for when you don't understand the appeal of something and want to be dismissive of it. How else could anybody possibly enjoy action scenes and attractive girls able to participate in them if it wasn't all actually code for cocks?

That isn't what he means. He is referencing Lacan's conception of the phallus, which goes beyond the Freudian prototype.
>The phallus is the symbol of existence itself, and all existence refers back to the phallus as a mediator of the metaphoric chain. In other words, to assert one’s existence in relation to the Symbolic one must secure for oneself a metaphoric phallus.
>Questions about femininity itself lead directly to questions about the origins of sexuality and the emergence of the Symbolic. As an infinite realm that extends outside the closed assembly of masculinity, it is considered essentially indescribable. Nothing can be done about this as long as the Symbolic remains a territory that privileges the phallus. Lacan expressed this indescribability with declarations like “Woman does not exist” and “Woman is a mystery to woman.”
>As the realm of the Imaginary expands because of the proliferation of media, some of us may feel that the ability of the Symbolic to structure and unify the Imaginary is threatened. Since the (always illusory) unity of the subject is maintained by what Lacan calls the phallus, this threat may even be experienced as a kind of castration anxiety. The panicked desire to reinstate the Symbolic in the face of an onslaught of images that threaten to undermine the distinction between the real and the fictional can thus take the form of an anxiety over sexual norms and gender conformity. This is one reason that Saitō insists that sexuality is key to understanding both otaku culture and the reactions it provokes in mainstream society.
>According to Nasio, paraphrasing Lacan, “the hysteric looks at the castrated other, becomes anxious, and, in the face of this anxiety, identifies with the imaginary object that the Other lacks [the phallus].” Doesn’t the phallic girl also often fight for the boy she loves (an impotent, weak, castrated being)?

Try again in English. If you can't explain a concept in simple terms, you don't actually understand it. This much should be obvious.
If the concept cannot be explained in simple terms, then it is not worth explaining in the first place. Human psychology is remarkably simple, there is only one rule - everything has been shaped by natural selection. Once you consider that, there is no need for pseudo-intellectual bullshit like going on about metaphorical phalli.
If you look at cute mecha pilots and think of cocks in any way, literal or metaphorical, that's on you, not me.

Oh. Then you should check that yt channel.

>>The image of the Shana clone contains every conceivable sexual perversion. It is easy to identify traces in it of homosexuality (the girl with a phallus), pedophilia, sadism, masochism, and fetishism. It is very nearly an image of polymorphous perversion itself.
Fix'd, fuck tsunderies

I’d suck my waifu’s metaphorical phallus.

Well if """the phalus""" means that, why not gove it a less misleading name? Maybe something like assertor of existance. After all, these assholes want psychology to be a science but they tread on poetic language, which is terrible if you want your idea to be understood. It's like teaching medical anatomy using Masami Obari and Liefeld's drawings as reference

No, this is all just a bunch of empty conjecture masquerading as deep analysis.
