Erina winning BLUE was the obvious outcome the moment the Bookkeeper was revealed to be her mom. What sense would it make for Soma to win that? Even his focus was on restoring her confidence. BLUE was shitty and the Noirs were shitty but this is the right way to stick the landing with such poor ingredients.

This good series was wasted on this series. At some point it was like the pilot realized the plane was stalling and then just decided to ram the ground as fast as he could.

Soma and Megumi vs Shinomiya and Takumi vs Giganigga were pretty good.
It really sucks that Giga's copying gimmick was reused for el hermano's nen ability though.

TLDR WARNING

Soumegu: I am honestly glad this pairing never came into fruition. They have the dynamic that I abhor in many early shounen works : the nice, sidekick girl beside the main protagonist, destined to be forever overshadowed by the MC halo. It's an easy cliche many writers took in early shounen works; there was nothing wrong with this pairing and that's exactly why I have a problem with it. It is boring. She is an incredible character by her own right, striving for greatness despite her insecurities and whatnot, but place her beside Souma, and she will always blend into the background.She will never challenge Souma or bring him to greater heights in cooking.

SouEri : Tsukuda has made me despair over this pairing in more ways than one. On the one hand, they have the typical Tsundere/Main MC dynamic at first glance, but I saw potential in this pairing from early on that made me intrigued. The defrosting to dere-ness isn't new, but in the hands of a good writer, it could very well be a heartwarming pairing. Tsukuda has achieved this in the middle of the manga (the part where Souma cooks something heartwarming for her, and she teared up and savoured the dish). It was the start of something potentially great.

Unfortunately, it became clear that Tsukuda bit off more than he can chew. Not only did he prove himself to be utterly incapable of writing a good romance, time and time again, he is unable to actually follow certain plot progressions that would've made sense (Souma/Erina teaming up against Tsukasa, or Souma becoming second seat and Erina first seat). Instead he has opt to come out with nonsense that has led to the state of the pairing and manga now. What the hell could Erina as a headmaster of the school achieve in your story?

Even the famous train scene and balcony encouraging scene between them made me lament at how, in the hands of a better writer, they could've been wonderful and majority of the fans wouldn't have shitted on them so much.

Alice's bento wasn't bento enough because it didn't take advantage of the container. It was literally an eat immediately food for one since she's doing some serious temp control that doesn't involve the container's properties. Remember part of the rules is that the food should be reasonably maintained for half a day even if the judging is immediate.

I mean
I don't remember what the container was made of, but considering the stuff in the box would've gone for three digits at least, there's plenty of insulator materials or containers that would've kept sushi sub-zero in blinding summer heat for well over 4-6 hours (i.e. from leaving the house to 12:30 lunch break).

That said my point is that it's clearly a technicality on which Alice lost. I don't disagree with her losing because it was clearly a case of tryharding gone overboard. Finally they shoot the poor dog and ended it's misery. This should have ended or at least had a straight patch to the end after Hokkaido ark. I'm not quite sure what I expected from Erina's reaction. but I felt somewhat let down by what I got. On an intellectual level, I see why the writer did it that way, but after all the romantic teasing it doesn't feel quite satisfying. I didn't want her declaration of undying love, but something more than what we got. And "good" job, leaving the outcom up in the air, after all that shit. All that's missing is Tadokoro commenting "after all, our journey together really was the 'Shokugeki no Souma'". I guess there's the dessert bonus chapters, to round things out a bit. I was never a big fan of the "lol read the supplementary/extra material to tie loose ends up" routine. Maybe it's to be expected, when you constantly write with a potential axe over your head and when it finally drops, then more often than not, the author is still wallowing around with his pants down.

Makes sense since the Aldinis had their dad just kick them out one day without consulting them back when we got a flashback on why they came to Totsuki. Scouting for high school is definitely a thing some high schools do. Not just for sports, either. Sometimes they recruit for whatever competitions they're invested in (though there isn't a lot to choose from) and some of the PSAT wanking kids do also gets random offers. It is a bit annoying though. A lot of the kids seemed to be at Totsuki because of their own ambitions and it did seem like they decided to come without external input.

Senzaemon might not have deigned Souma to be a chosen one but the manga's writing definitely was hinting it, and here Souma's being the one at the top who's "saved" Erina instead of everybody else. Senzaemon was just hedging his bets on the first go-round.

All this is so sudden and out of the blue though. It's not the flashback that makes it feel like sabotage, it's everything starting from Azami's arrival that made all this shit be awful. This is clearly their way of ending everything in the story as fast as they can but it still took several months to do it instead of just ending it like any other canned series.

Animeonli here. I was really into the first and second season, I put it right up there with some of my favourites. I was really into cooking at that time so it was pretty convenient to start airing.
As soon as Central showed up I just started losing interest, it drained all of the fun that was being set up. I couldn't even make it half way through the third season.

That being said, I somehow feel glad this series has eaten shit and was abruptly killed off. I had a relatively short investment into it but feel a great amount of pleasaure knowing I didn't miss out on anything good and can keep my memories about this show mostly happy ones.
It's a shame such a great character design was wasted on a terrible series.

Man, if only they could change writers... Considering the series' ending hardly wrapped up the story, and that they still have one year left at school, a good writer could fix the pile of shit Tsukuda threw on this story.
Also, considering that Souma is very likely to lose to Erina, and thus not winning BLUE, he would have to live up to his word and give up on inheriting Yukihira, which would be very interesting for his character, considering he said he had finally made a dish he considered his own.

That's because Sheryl's development was great. She was a great singer, but hardly a Sue, and even then, she fell from grace for a while, and that allowed her to grow as a character and a person. Then, when Ranka left to deal with the Vajra, she was given good development with Alto.

Then you had Ranka, who had an amazing start as the underdog, but as soon as she became famous, the writers stopped developing her character and gave her this super boring and poorly written connection to the Vajra. Think how popular she was when she sang "My Boyfriend is a Pilot" or "Seikan Hikou".
