How's your quest to learn the English language is progressing?

with your spam

Ive gotten really good at reading and typing but can barely follow a simple stock conversation
Life is suffering.

They say you should learn to speak it first.
I guess you get crossover with chinese.

I have no idea where to put the desu

It literally always goes at the end of a sentence (or dependent phrase), as it performs the same role as a main verb.

thanks desu

How long have you been learning?

Eh they got those speak and repeat translator apps now.

I'd say about a year and half of solid studying, with wanikani+Tae kim+bunpro and a lot of doujin translation work

It's a crawl. I got a deadline coming up in 2 and a half years where I'll be goig to japan. I got enough time to get good enough to follow simple conversation but not at the pace I'm going fuck アアアアー!

それらが下手だ、アノンくん

I gave up and switched to chinese

Isn't that worse? Is that the joke?

it's actually easier

そうですはね

Traditional language learning doesn't work.
In Japan for example it is compulsory to study English starting grade 5 all the way to the end of high school, that's 8 years worth of English studying. Yet barely any Japanese know how to speak English and this is despite the fact the that the Japanese are some of the smartest people on earth while Americans, the largest English speaking population in the world are some of the dumbest, with an adult illteracy rate 15%.
Literally the only way to properly learn a language is the same way babies do it, which is through comprehensible input.

Here is a video explaining what it is:

If you would've spent the last 1 1/2 learning using comprehensible input you'd be having conversations with natives right now.

nice dude science
the best way to learn language quick is to physically move into a language speaking environment and have little possibilty to avoid speaking it
same reason near all european nerds speak advanced english, its all over the internet

漢字と文法が日本語より安易と思うんですが中国語の喋り方が日本語よりもっとむずかしい.

You are certainly right to some extent user, but being able to read Japanese was my top priority. Now's more than time to move out of my comfort zone tho

No, it's not because you're forced to speak the language, it's because you're in an environment where you have more opportunities to be exposed to input that is comprehensible, aka comprehensible input.

The only way to truly learn something is to use it.
I was thinking of learning enough to understand the rugby commentary in the autumn
