It was ambitious following the villains through most of the beginning of the story before focusing on the hero, then showing the hero's fight that was cut down during the climax and the bad end that followed. Not many are going for that kind of message anymore.

It's far more justified in this instance since Cantus shitters caused a nuclear apocalypse and further shat the world up through PK leak. They lock themselves in a perpetual dark age rural society built on the backs of a genetically engineered underclass because trying to advance by expanding the land, population, and technological level increases mental strain and thus the chances of Fiends and Karmic Demons spawning.

A lot of people with good taste have this on their favourites list and it's always obvious they haven't seen it in ages. This is the type of show you watch early into being into anime and then meme yourself into thinking is still good years later. I see a lot of people rewatching the show and realising it was garbage all along. Maybe a good recommendation for everyone here.

Most faggots who shit on the show didn’t like it cause they started watching, saw the psycho kid school shooter rampaging the place and thought it was gonna be another easy mindless action series. Instead what they got was an interesting and complex narrative and that left them disappointed.

A subpar butcher job of the original novel. None of the societal allegories were emphasized to the degree they needed to be and were treated as world building filler, it played up the homosexuality to draw in views, and worst of all butchered Saki's character. The manga meanwhile was a vestigial afterthought so terrible it's not even worth going into. You're better off reading a translated version of the novel and then watching the show.

It's only thing to read the LN of an anime/manga that you like because you want more, but LNs on their own are far outclassed by conventional literature.
On the other hand, manga and anime are the superior forms of comics and television respectively.
