Do you think Vetto and Fana might help out the Bulls in the Diamond arc once the elves have lost the Wicked Heart curse? I mean think about it.

I think it would be a wasted opportunity not to do that. Elf-Fana might feel guilty about possessing human-Fana in the past which would give her an excuse to tag along for the Diamond arc and Vetto would of course join to keep his waifu safe. Asta's promise to help Mars is very personal which means Clover is probably not going to be sending any other knights there especially right after the elf invasion, but the elves are a different story since they are an independent faction. 2 captain level elves would make for some pretty solid reinforcements against the 8 Shining Generals.

Not it didn't Asta still needed help to defeat Kirsh and Langris. But right now yeah in his current Black Asta state he's passed the vice captains we've seen so far.

Not that guy but it's not impossible for Shounen protagonists fail and fall into despair. Think about Luffy fainting from despair after seeing Ace die or Yhwach shitting on Ichigo and breaking his resolve. There are even instances of more severe consequences to the main characters, like Gon losing his powers after going mental or Meliodas getting killed by the bad guys. I could see Asta falling into despair at some point, but I think it would likely be connected to the anti-magic devil. He's the one that wants Asta to fall into despair so him or his acquaintances could try to make it happen. Word devil doesn't seem to be involved with any of that though so it would be a waste to make that happen here.

Its complicated because ratri elf langris needed 2 captains to take him down.
But is asta was there that fight woulda been resolved much easier.
And I would not say asta is better than 2 captains

Animeonly here. Does Yuno actually become interesting? I like his dynamic with Asta but god he as a character is kind of awful.

He gets more focus in these arcs but he is more or less the same.

I unironically think Yuno is more interesting than Asta. Asta's character is fairly basic as far as shounen MCs go but Yuno has this kind of chosen one theme going on which would be dull for the main character to have but which works pretty well for the rival. I don't think that things would improve if Yuno was made the main protagonist, I just think that he plays his rival role better than Asta does his MC role. Having said that I think Noelle is a much better character than either of the two, which is especially impressive considering she's a female character in a battle shounen. She actually has some flaws like her insecurities and goes through a character arc as she gains the respect of her siblings. Meanwhile Yuno and Asta are basically the same as they were in chapter 1 without any significant character flaws to be seen. It works for Yuno to some extent since it fits him being blessed in basically every way, but Asta is not quite so lucky. We're only at the end of the first big story arc so there's still plenty of time for development, but so far I think the side characters are carrying the show, especially ones like Yami and Julius.

Noelle is arguably one of the best written characters in the manga.

Who's going to be the one to take down the devil? Tabata keeps mentioning how someone has spells that are effective against him. First it was Lumiere styling on him, then Licht doing some work, then Asta's anti-magic causing problems, then Patri with his demon light magic and then Yami dropping hints that his dark magic is useful. Personally I think Licht and maybe Lumiere deserve to land the final blow.

The Kotodama devil is just a plot device and an actual antagonist more than anything else. Elves' backstory was far too tragic and sympathetic to make them full-fledged antagonists. He's pretty boring as he is just about gaining power, destroying, and being superior. No real motives outside of that.

It made sense. Asta had Licht's swords and anti-magic, two things that were extremely convenient for Secre so she stuck around with him. Now this begs the question: Did Asta truly get the grimoire by sheer coincidence? Judging by the convo this chapter, Secre, Lumiere, and Kotodama devil had no role in giving Asta the grimoire.

His design is great and his word magic is very creative, but as a character he is kind of one-dimensional. So far he just seems to be evil for the sake of being evil without any further motives so it would be good if he was fleshed out a bit more. I think it would be cool for him to get a flashback or something showing "that world" and how the devils live there. Are they solitary or do they have tribes like the elves or perhaps even a more complex civilization? Do they have more nuanced goals than just causing problems for people? Why do they want to go to the real world and obtain a physical body and a grimoire?

Nah, he's actually imitating Licht's demon Dweller. Soon, he'll also imitate Demon Slayer and Demon Destroyer in some way.

Why would it? Secre is just some girl who lived a long time ago and turned into a bird. She's not particularly knowledgeable so her claims about Asta being normal are more or less worthless. The Witch Queen is a much better authority on the subject not only because of her great knowledge but also because her magic allowed her to examine Asta on a deeper level. If people didn't believe her words then there's no reason to expect them to believe Secre's.

He's obviously going to kick the bucket very soon. It would be a very unsatisfying end to the arc if he somehow managed to get away after everything he's done and all the time and buildup that has been invested in this fight.

That I agree with, but what is wrong with exploring the origins of the devils just because there are going to be more of them? We saw multiple flashbacks of the elf tribe before they showed up properly and it didn't ruin them. In fact the elf reveal is probably one of the best moments in the manga so far because people liked the way Tabata slowly built up to it with plenty of teases. Are you going to be disappointed if we see a flashback of the word devil interacting with other devils before they are properly introduced?

Actually that's how things usually happen, not just in BC but in other series as well. You don't just introduce characters and do nothing with them. Mars was introduced in chapter 13 and we got a flashback explaining his past with Fana in chapter 19. I actually would have agreed with you some 5-10 chapters ago but now it's ridiculous to expect him to survive. After Lumiere was temporarily resurrected and we saw the flashback of the devil ruining him and Licht's lives the devil's defeat was set in stone. It also wouldn't make much sense for him to survive now that we've already seen him driven into a corner and losing his cool. Still, I can see at least see where you're coming from if you're operating under that premise, with the exception of one part.

This fight is actually meant to contrast with what happened with the past and I'm surprised that you can't see it. The reason the devil succeeded in the past is because he played the humans and the elves against each other. The humans killed the elves and by the time Lumiere showed up Licht was already out of the game. Licht managed to delay the devil's plans by turning into a monster, but that then lead to Lumiere being fatally injured during their fight. The devil tried the same thing in the present and was successful up until a few chapters ago, when instead of killing Patri in revenge Asta instead convinced him to join forces, ending the cycle of hatred. The elves and humans are fighting together this time, with Asta acting as the human champion while Yuno acts as the elf champion, with their predecessors supporting them and being amazed by them. This is why we saw grimoireless Licht and statue Lumiere fail to defeat the devil while working together, only for Yuno and Asta to drive the devil into a corner right after that with their teamwork. The whole point is the old shounen message about the new generation succeeding at things that the old generation failed at.

It wasn't explicitly stated in this chapter but we know that her goal was to bring back Lumiere, so we can assume she wanted to use Asta to collect the magic stones. It's unclear how much she knew about the reincarnation spell and how the magic stones were related to that.

That's pretty much a given yeah, although a part of it probably comes down to whether it's also possible to create 5-leaf grimoires out of the other kingdoms' grimoires, since the story will likely move away from Clover soon.

I had a feeling it had something to do with Lumiere (Since that much was pretty obvious) but couldn't really think of any reason why it had to be Asta specifically

If that were the case they wouldn't have taken a back seat in the fight.

This page basically spells out what is going to happen. Asta and Yuno will distract Wevil while Licht and Lumiere prepare some kind of a combo attack. Unfortunately Yuno and Asta will get overpowered, which forces Patri to save them and to burn himself out. Licht and Lumiere's attack will wipe out most of the goop which will then give Yami the opportunity to come in and use his dark magic which he mentioned is effective against Wevil to prevent him from escaping. Not sure if Yami's dimension slash will destroy the heart or if Licht and/or Lumiere will do it at the last second, but I'd prefer the latter. Alternatively it's possible that Licht and Lumiere's attack will kill Wevil and Yami is just there to vacuum his spirit into his black hole to destroy it (or perhaps to send it back to the other world if Yami's magic is somehow connected to that).

Outclassed? They just managed to surprise Wevil and to land a big hit on him, which would have killed him if he didn't move his heart out of the way. Wevil is getting his shit pushed in which is why he's losing his cool and getting angry.

I know this is a shitpost but I wonder if BC would get axed even if its sales fell a bit. The Boruto manga is selling much worse than BC but has a successful anime so it was spared the axe and moved to a different magazine instead.

the problem isn't necessarily the length of the fight but more that the fight isn't very well structured . Because it isn't very clear what the demon can do or what needs to be done to defeat him it feels like they're trading attacks without it really having any significance on later chapters. It's like you could skip out a chapter or two or even reverse the order of the chapters and you wouldn't really miss out on anything, it would make almost as much sense as before.
I think the main problem is that the boss character here can apparently do anything just by saying it which doesn't give much form to the battle.

contrast with an early boss fight in naruto:

Don't you realize that the whole point of the Clover saga is coexistence between humans and elves? The two were finally about achieve that when Wevil showed up to ruin everything and then triggered the current conflict by reincarnating the elves. Now the humans and the elves have left their past behind and joined forces for the first time, with the reincarnation of the child of an elf and a human in a key role. Wevil being alive is what keeps the hatred going(literally, through Wicked Heart), not the other way around. You have missed the entire point of the arc.

Bros... I'm worried about the powercreep for this series, we've already seen the 2 most powerful beings fight at their best (FWK & Licht) and it still didn't defeat Wevil. Once they defeat him, literally what could pose a threat after that? Asta, Yuno and the Captains fought a literal Devil and hurt him, I'm afraid this could go the YYH way and it is only the first arc. I don't really mind having more Devils as antagonists, but wouldn't it get a little bit stale?

To be fair neither one is at full power. Licht has no grimoire so he only has a single sword and can't use complex spells. Lumiere was seriously wounded, turned into a statue and then reanimated so he's weaker as well. Wevil actually mentioned in the flashback that he would have gotten his ass handed to him by Lumiere even with Licht's body and the 5-leaf.

As far as the powercreep goes I think it will just slow down. Keep in mind that Ichigo defeated 2 captains in the Soul Society arc and Naruto defeated a tailed beast in the Chuunin Exam arc. Both of them still managed to find reasonable challenges even after that. If it doesn't slow down then we are in hot water.

BC so far has handled power creeps quite well, It's usually not so much that Asta is god tier but really just that he pretty much hard counters everyone.
While definitely strong Wevil doesn't quite seem like the be all end all of his race

Maybe it's just becuase I knew in hindsight that it had darker undertones but I always felt it had a sense of looming dread
Either way, Hopefully we will get some more "darker" stuff in other kingdoms, Black Clover feels like it could have a really expansive world so I would love to see Tabata explore that more
