I guess you could say that. BC is in the final parts of it's "saga" apparently and is basically putting all that early foreshadowing and backstory to good use like in all might vs afo. Frankly I like what mha is doing right now giving more perspective through the LOV but ever since all might vs afo it feels like it hit it's peak stride in terms of impact in the world that was made so there's a lot of chapters with "nothing happening" or at least it needs more to show the repercussions of events, but dragging more chapters to show that won't look too good on a weekly ranking with teenagers and kids reading it.

I suspect bad or at least dubious advice circulating among the editors for series with a significant romance component. Something along the lines of someone recommending adding NTR to a villain to instantly make the readers dislike them more strongly and be even happier when they're defeated, or adding a love rival trying to woo the heroine to fire up the hero/heroine shippers and draw in some of the shoujo crowd who like two guys fighting over one girl.

The problem of course is that it's a very risky thing that can backfire spectacularly depending on how a mangaka handles it. A quickly dealt with villain who the heroine hates can work, but a drawn out one the heroine will give the time of day can draw backlash. Similarly if you have a comfy slow burn romance going, people are going to hate a love rival showing up and getting genuine attention from the heroine while the hero is consumed by jealousy or is so dense to romance that he ignores it.

This is how it should be, leaving too many dinosaurs is always modern Jump's problem. Should have already canned Black Clover, BNHA and Soma a long time ago or at least forced the authors to improve if they want to stick around. Hinomaru will also be gone soon and Yuna can be replaced whenever they get a new ecchi. Kimetsu and Neverland are the only manga longer than Bokuben (which should be wrapping up) that are still actively delivering and they seem ready to naturally end sometime in 2020. The days of obscenely long and shit (in their final years) manga like Naruto, Bleach and Gintama are hopefully in the past.

Color pages are significant extra work for most mangakas, but Pozuka can shit out color pages at the drop of the hat so she gets them over the least unpopular series and the ones so popular they don’t need the extra promotion. MHA not getting one is mainly due to the mangaka barely keeping up as it is, iirc even the color spread for the last popularity poll got delayed to several weeks after the poll results because he didn’t make one in time.

The only reason BC is even slightly relevant is because it has a long running anime, with out that it would do even worse.

Yeah that’s the point, the series with potential or are selling decently get color pages for advertising, but the best selling and established ones like OP, HQ and MHA doesn’t need them as much. They’re still extra work for the mangaka, but for smaller series the exposure is worth it.
