After hearing Soma’s words, Erina realizes what she desired was to hear was her mother to say, “I want to eat your dish, Erina.” The bursting pulse gets activated and the extent of it is something that has never been witnessed in the history of the Nakiri family.

But Erina’s says it tastes bad. Compared to the dish she will make now it’s bad and she regains her motivation. Mana thinks that Soma’s way to dedicate your everything to someone is what may lead to a dish that doesn’t exist in this world.

Soma says he was able to come here thanks to Erina and he was able to finally present a dish that he considers to be his own. He tells her that he wants to continue fighting her like this.

Asahi literally was created to bring Soma x Erina closer. It’s why his introduction is “stealing” Erina away bridal style. The villain that the MC saves the heroine from. Nothing to do with the Nakiri family, but everything to do with Erina.

The manga is about SOUMA. Even this arc, with focus on Erina, was all about Souma reaching the pinnacle of some out of the universe cooking shit.

First she rejected Souma's admission only for her grandfather to overrule, then she was out of sight for chapters while Souma became acquainted with the Polestar dorm and it's residents, and helped Megumi pass that class when some jackasses tried to sabotage them. Then you had the Don RS arc with Erina the villain sending her minion Nikumi to destroy the Don RS club, and Souma defending it ending with Souma converting Nikumi and forcing her to join the club, while Erina disowned Nikumi for her failure. That took to the mid-teens. After that was the training camp arc, where Erina didn't appear for several chapters at a time. She got a couple moments to humanize her a bit and go back on the villain thing, but her main role in the arc was gloating at Souma's mistake with the buffet and being irritated that he didn't fail. After that it went into the Kaarage arc, where she didn't feature, then the Autumn election arc where the focus was all on the participants, of which she wasn't one. It wasn't until that arc that she strongly transitioned from villain to tsundere, and even so her presence was fairly sparse.

The bottom line is that the series was a hit due to Souma, not Erina. It took over a years for Erina to switch from villain to tsundere, and even then it took a while before she featured heavily.

The twist in the end is that the accident that gave Soma his scar actually put him in a coma, and everything in the manga has just been a hallucination. She was too perfect for the MC to compete in a story where she is the main heroine. It sets up unrealistic goals for Tsukuda to handle and he couldn't correlate a underdog MC with a FeMC who's already at the summit in cooking. The differences are too big hence every time Erina is introduced back into the story it feels hamfisted.

Also El Hermano and her parents are poorly planned plot devices to have those two move closer together as antagonists. No one likes them and it makes the story go straight to the shitter.

This. I've never seen Erina once compliment Soma nor believed in him. All she mostly did was mock him or treat him like an asshole. But y'know people will mostly see that as "oh she's just teasing him, she really likes him guys!" That or they would post the whole train scene or that one panel where he's complimenting her as their only evidence.

That's why I like Soma x Megumi better. Cute duo with mutual trust and belief in one another. Very much a ride-or-die ship.

Depends on what you mean by build up on. That chapter mid election arc where they helped Itsuki with the kids certainly built up Megumi's feelings more, and the Hot Springs investigation arc just after the RDC had plenty of Souma/Megumi shipping bait.

Not entirely true, the entire ch276 chapter was Erina encouraging him and cheering him up.

The next chapter has Souma using the exact phrasing Erina used to cheer him up, in replying to Nikumi's question about why he was so happy (after Erina's encouragement). Some of these things are lost in translation in English, but the original Japanese conveyed it really nicely, and people picked it up.

I hate every ship in this series apart from Shinomiya/Mizuhara and Dog/Alice, but I'd be pissed because everything Tsukuda's done to run Shokugeki has been to push Soma with Erina.
