Okay not to TRASH nagisa because she did show Tomoya the idea of family but Tomoyo had that too. I would say Nagisa needed Tomoya more than Tomoya needed Nagisa. I just think he needed someone to show him what family ment and well... they both that so you could argue both Tomoyo and Nagisa do this and thus are both perfect matched for Tomoya. However considering the hardships Tomoyo went through, she is probably the most deticated person to Tomoya.

She just wants to have a baby - Shinzo Abe proves. All she does is feel bad or sorry for something and than stops functioning like a proper human being so MC has to reboot her. Meanwhile there is some real shit going on in Clannad. Every other route handles a lot of heavy subjects. It's like playing a completely different VN. Her story only works with her getting the cut and MC handles everything by himself. What a useless piece of shit.
Her Character was chosen to be main girl because they thought she would be the most appealing one to the general masses. If she has no personalty nobody can really complain about it - just make her cute ... fucking waste of a masterpiece, animeonlyfags will never know how good Clannad actually is.

Also her character was choosen to be the main girl because in the Manga she is the ONLY route. The routes only came to be in the VN. Of course Nagisa became the MC in the NV, the Manga it's based off of only had Nagisa's route.
It sucks but thank god the VN included other routes or else ya it would of been poopy with nagisa alone.

I think one of the bad Tomoyo endings where she loses the election and drops out of school was more emotionally resonating than the happy one. Like she just let go of all that potential to be with him; not a great decision imo but it made her memorable. The Kyou route was also a master class of making the reader feel shitty about what's going on.
