>start working on tling manga to maybe meet new people and get a discussion about manga going
>end up doing everything alone, and nobody really talks about the manga
I don't know what I expected, really.

Don't translate shit manga with no views

Reminder to boycott MangaDex and demand to remove all your translations from there. Holo is a greedy jew trying to turn MD into a new CR/Fakku.

It's not really as popular as Isekai but it gets like 5k views on mangadex per chapter, and lots more on aggregator sites. Well it's a whatever, just wanted to get it off my chest.

Fuck off and kill yourself you jaimeme shill

I've been stalling it for over a year, but now I'm unemployed again, maybe I'll get it back up.

Maybe just join a group doing some popular manga instead?

Doing SFX was a mistake.

Attached: 1388141825659.gif (450x402, 839K)

Translation is going alright, I just need a typesetter for this mangadex.org/title/20603/kako-and-the-false-detective/

oh neat, u picked it up?

Shit, a group picked up the stuff I was working on. I mean, I did say someone else could do it because I'm slow as fuck, but they didn't even pm me to see if I was still working on it. What do?

Yeah, I'm almost done with the next chapter. It's taking a while because I'm trying to keep things somewhat consistent with the previous group.

snipe a series from them and shit on them with credit pages, or at least call them faggots

So this happened: mangadex.org/thread/92399

What the fuck is going on? I mean is funny to see the absolute jews of jewminis box throwing a shit fit over MD fucking over their profits, but it's also the first time I heard of MD wanting to go legit, and then they are saying that was never a secret, well fuck them too.

>What do?
> I did say someone else could do it

Nothing, take it like a man, fag.

Finishee the Strike Witches - Kimi to Tsunagaru Sora chapter 8 yesterday. Maybe i should do all the volume.
mangadex.org/chapter/637948

Attached: yay2.gif (420x540, 111K)

I said that someone that was faster than me could do it, I didn't say I was going to drop it. And they took almost a year to do a new chapter after I took a break.

>And they took almost a year to do a new chapter after I took a break.
what?

yeah go give jaimini your money so that they can implement more ads and bitcoin miners on their site

Attached: mangadex_group_donations.jpg (1074x845, 774K)

That was great, thanks a lot.

>Maybe i should do all the volume
Yes please.

Cringe scanlation drama, I feel like both sides are wrong on this.

I agree, but I do believe the scanlators are being way more retarded, since MD is the only site that actually put ups with their shit, on a second thought, MD is even more retarded for putting up with retarded scantaltors. Anyway it's funny to see those bitches whine and then do nothing to shit site like KM.

Is there a single scanlation team thats not a shitty drama queen?

>MD is even more retarded for putting up with retarded scantaltors
I think they're doing great on that front, all the groups what only want a place to dump their stuff are content and the handful of whiny bitch niggers that don't like it are basically just shown the door.

>guys I'm slow. If anyone can do this faster than me he is welcome to do so.
>ok I will
>wtf?! How could this happen?

Attached: a5b887d8084366a7507370f5e6ed1e71.jpg (374x347, 39K)

mine, it consists of me only

Best group

Oh hey, I'm a solo scanlator too.

me

The ones that don't deal with money

The last chapter I uploaded was almost a year ago. And they only uploaded two new chapters a month ago. I can't see how that's faster than me.

So you dropped a series for a year, and dudes put 2 chapters in a month? I mean no chapter in a year is overdoing it, man. 2 chapters per month is a lot more than zero in a year.

It seems like the only ones throwing a fit are the ones that are probably losing revenue from their site. How come they can use patreon to scanlate shit and not get in trouble?

You said they could, they did. The end. Stop being a fag.

Yeah, I know. But I don't have much free time in between working a part time job and attending uni. I'm unemployed now and on break from school, that's why I was thinking on doing it again. Guess I'll just translate some one shot porn instead.

I will. Sumanai.

>leave series dead for an entire year
>leave a message that anyone can pick it up
>B-but they aren't fast enough!
Deal with it, fag.

based, how do you deal with loneliness and meaningless of existence?

By fapping a lot.

Not him but you just learn to live with it

Attached: 1559645513234.png (1280x720, 839K)

one man scanlation groups like anq or hox are usually drama free

can you really call that living though?
how does it help? be it sweet vanilla doujins or the fucked up ones they always end up making me feel worse in different ways, how do you do it?

>how do you do it?

I try not to thing about it, then when night comes it's just another day that went by, I also like reading, that sort of stuffs takes my mind away from all the bad thinking.

Also therapy works.

>can you really call that living though?
I mean, what else can you do?
Look for some hobbies and do things you actually enjoy
Call it escapism if you want
If you in a really bad position do what and look for therapy

Redrawing SFX is stupid and time consuming.
I take it a step further and never even bother translating them unless it's necessary.

therapy is time consuming, i'd rather do something else in meantime

this, i doubt anyone even notices tl'd sfx

>Redrawing SFX is stupid and time consuming.

I agree, I only put the translation and how to read the SFX in a smaller font.

Attached: 0006.png (1451x2050, 993K)

is the grammar wrong on purpose?

Are you referring to the skelly? Yes, he's speaking like a samurai, in an archaic way and I couldn't think of a better way to translate that form of speaking. If you are referring to the regular speech then I apologize, it is not intended. ;_;

As someone who lacks time to do it myself, I'm happy to see more people ITT trying to write ripping tools.

>does that phrase means
should be does that phrase mean
>he's is
he is or he's, pick one not both lol
you might want to fix these

Ah those, yes, I apologize, I find it extremely hard to notice those kind of mistakes since my brain thinks everything is fine.

thats why proofreaders exist i guess

I know, I just find don't it comfortable to work with anyone else.

i saw that, user...

N-no!

Im looking for more depressing Shota abuse shit to translate. Doujins or mangas are both fine.

i couldn't find a face smug enough for this... ruined...

Attached: 1338145421356.png (598x563, 393K)

I've been sitting on a 1 volume series for the past 4 years that I've translated for myself with google. I've considered turning it into a scanlation, but there were a few lines I couldn't make sense of and I'm not satisfied with how most of the sentences turned out.
I don't think anyone would read it anyway.

>I don't think anyone would read it anyway.

Retards read LHT stuff so go ahead.

If you started learning Japanese those 4 years ago, by now you probably would be able to translate it properly.

But jokes aside, typeset it, dump it, link the raws, and maybe someone will correct you.

what series?

As long as it's in passable english most people won't notice anything.

and thats a bad thing because it hurts the author

all scanlation hurts the author, retard.

Not unlicensed ones.

i mean that bad translation (which machine translations are) bastardizes the work and can possibly change reception a lot, and if the readers are unaware it's the translator's fault, they will blame the author. also you're the retard here unfortunately

Well from what he said it's either that or leaving that series dead forever.

i'm just saying that people "not noticing" it's machine tl is not a good thing, they should be aware that what they're reading might not be correct

tfw 90% of manga go untranslated or even seen by audiences outside of Japan
How do you deal with this feeling?

Send help
In case someone is actually interested, I'll leave an e-mail here [email protected]
If it comes down to it I'll typeset it myself, but in that case it'd take years to finish.

By doing my part and reducing that to 89.many 9s%

Nothing because I've learned Japanese already.

But it's a side story for an MMO that's already dead. I'm just attached since I played it before. I don't know if there's any appeal for the average reader, though I guess it's somewhat CGDCT.

mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=113016
Same author as Machikado Mazoku

I'm starting to learn Japanese now. How long before I can start scanlating manga? I'm hoping I can get into it before I turn 30 (I'm 27 now)

depends, how much time a day are you ready to put in?

therapy is for fags

>jokes aside
that's literally true though

Probably a lot now.. Until I get bored and then maybe 30 minutes a day while I'm on the train

I don't think they treat that nowadays.

2 years of serious effort and u will be able to tl most manga, probably wont make it from what i can see though

You could theoretically start translating as soon as you learn kana and finish like tae kim or something, alongside other means of course.
It'll take you forever to go though a chapter at the beginning but it will make for great practice so in a year or two it'll be going smoothly.

Is there any resource out there on translating manga? Mainly looking for tutorials and fonts to make my translation look clean
I've been procrastinating doing it for a few months now but I'd really like to translate manga in my spare time. Mainly doujins

>Maybe just join a group doing some popular manga instead?
but working in a group is awful because they always drag things and fool around for some reason

Yesterday I googled a small manga I stopped scanlating since months ago and turns out during that period someone uploaded a page to r/manga and it gained thousands of upboats and the comments were like "man it's unfortunate the scanlation stopped so early"
Fuck.

I searched around and it seems prettyanonymous are dead. I happen to have all of anonblack's translation and typesetting guides. Gonna dump them soon.

Mangadex users consists of egotistical scanlators bashing other releases anyway. I actually look at KM or Mangakakalot's comments rather than MDs.

There's probably a better way to do this in modern gimp, but in the decade old version I'm familiar with:

>Select -> From Path
>Select -> Grow
>Fill white on new layer beneath text

Thanks for translating.

Bit late here's another typesetting tutorial:

fallensyndicate.wordpress.com/typesetting-tutorial/

Thank you all. I suppose the last question is where do I upload my translations? Mangadex seems to be getting a lot of flack here.

I don't really want to say, it would be like shilling something I work on.

Chuck it on Mangadex anyway, and then make a wordpress/blogger site with a MEGA link on it.

Upload them to madokami (manga) and sadpanda (hentai).

Mangadex
That's where all other aggregators scalp their stuff anyway

>madokami
You can't upload to madokami unless you have a special uploader account and you can't get a special uploader account because the staff is AWOL

Mangadex and Sadpanda it is then. I can't upload to Madokami according to this guy apparently

I'm stucked because I'm stupid.

I want to translate some japanese text but I don't know japanese. But I really want to do it and since is a title of a special page it is in a strange illegible font so I'm having an hard time to write it on google translate.

And yes, I translate from english to italian becasue I don't know moonrunes

post it here then

You translate from English to Italian but you're stuck because you can't read Japanese?

Okay.

Me~

Don't feel bad. Most of the discussion about the series I'm translating is people saying they can't remember what happened a few chapters ago so they're completely confused about what's happening.

I don't have a problem with a site trying to go legit. It's just a site I upload my scans to because I don't want to run my own site.

It's still better than aggregators that compress the images to shit, remove my credit page, remove my translation notes page, watermark my scans for themselves, and then add a page that reasds "read only on MangaFreak".

I think you might be talking about me. What series was it?

Not to beg, but could you translate the Misfits light novels?

this and the next page: mangadex.org/chapter/618519/11

I don't get why dropout didn't translate them when they translated all the other specials .-.

I can upload them directly here since I have the raws but my internet is slow

That's why I read manga, watch anime, and play videogames.

Because it's just a dumb preview that nobody cares about. And it's a hassle to typeset.

you only need to know the kana to type these, i'd do it for ya but gotta hit the bed now
this

>never ever ever use text boxes.

Make me.

Attached: 1514502968277.jpg (1600x900, 90K)

How would I handle idioms and expressions? I'm bad at recognizing them. I can only figure them out on occasion when the literally meaning doesn't make sense so I look up the phrase's meaning.

I didn't translate it, i took the existing TL and retyped it over the uncensored HQ raws

Attached: 1282239088518.gif (280x158, 365K)

>Furthermore, MT works can destroy any potential J-E translator's desire to work on them, because once they're released those who aren't familiar with Japanese will immediately take them as granted to be 100% accurate and thus can be very difficult to convince otherwise. In some cases, this can be considered as insult to J-E translators, or make them angry (especially if someone machine-translated a doujin they were planning to work on).

If an accurate translation sounds worse than a machine translation, then the accurate translator just sucks at writing in English.

Started translating the original oneshot of a manga who's now it's own serie. Things are similar but at the same time, pretty different. The best quality + ALL pages we were able to find was in chinese, so yea, had to find chinese translators. The beginning and end are mostly done, must work on the middle part.

Okay I will try with google translate but probably I will leave as it is if you say that noboy cares about it.

It's really dumb. Why not use boxes when it's faster to typeset with them?

>why do it properly and carefully when you can let the program shit out something presentable in 1 second
I mean, you have a point, but that's a guide to GOOD typesetting.

But it looks the same.

Are you blind, retarded, or baiting?

Attached: file.png (600x469, 102K)

literally nobody cares

manual looks worse

Anyone working on 341 Combat Team? (New manga from Hiroe since he's too much of a shit to finish Black Lagoon.)

The correct answer is make a text box and manually move whatever doesn't fit.
Also, both examples look bad.

Attached: 1560371067509.png (800x469, 87K)

That's what I do. I didn't know there were people vehemently against text boxes.

How do you even do text without a box?

Press T, click wherever you want your Text, done.

>Using Photoshop when pic related is better and cheaper.

Attached: Affinity_Photo_Logo_2017.png (300x273, 12K)

how can it be cheaper when photoshop is free

I've seen manual that looks terrible. They force everything to fit the bubble by breaking words apart into the next line.

youtu.be/J9fz4Pn_GSM

Photoshop lags like hell. Affinity is faster.

Does the typical fan translator for manga know enough Japanese to be translating?

I know there's a lot that supposedly machine TL, but some I think are people who just have a very low level of Japanese and try to translate without ever improving much.

youtu.be/rPFCpAvzIUo

I see brushes and layers work pretty much the same, but can I write my own scripts for it that for example automatically place text and apply different fonts and sizes? I used to use PS for more than just scanlating, but now I really just need text placement and everything that's required for redrawing. Learning a new scripting language or reading documentation wouldn't be an issue. I'm already not a fan of how slowly Photoshop starts and how much RAM holds on to after a few hours of use but no documents open anymore.

thats me

I am trying okay?

Attached: 1547145758602.jpg (520x442, 167K)

Affinity Photo is amazing, but right now it's still not really a replacement to photoshop.
Some problems I have run into while trying to scanlate are:
>group of layers are always named "group" so you absolutely need to change the name.
>no batch export
>no brush menu when you right click
>showing and hiding many layers need an extra step

In a few years when they fix stuff like that and add more things I will probably make the switch.

Kaguya-sama's gotten sniped from them a few times already, so...

Stagnating at N3. Finding it hard to find time to study nip these days.

Attached: IMG_20190604_120721.jpg (772x743, 312K)

I suspect some translators are N4 or even N5.

I translate, but I don't even know what grade I am. All I did was read Tae Kim all the way through and then do anki every day.

That's higher than N4 but I don't know if it's enough for N3.

I use boxes, but I'm not dumb and just leave it as-is. I'll reform the text as needed to fit and read better. People who just leave it in the original paste are dumb.

Also, manual on that bottom right bubble looks like ass, too much white space.

It's fun until it's not.

Attached: 15.png (1114x1600, 774K)

What level is the average Japanese person born in Japan?

They should be N1 or better. I mean it's their native language.

no one knows most series until someone posts TLs
and then someone picks it up with that TL

go to a site, pick a series with digital raws

Isn't it just a kanji and vocab thing past a certain point?

How about Kihei Senki?

Attached: cover.jpg (1400x2010, 484K)

And an idiom thing. And an accent thing.

There are native Japanese speakers who can barely make out what certain Japanese characters with thick southern Japanese accents are saying.

Which scanlation role has the most burnouts Yea Forums?

I need more eldritch senpai chapters!

Redrawing and Cleaning

Hachimitsu Scans is one guy? The fuck?

>people translating "ネット" as "net" instead of "internet"

yuri gives him unlimited power

ahh the bitch work

Yes, and he has translated over 120 manga. mangadex.org/thread/77929

That doesn't mean other roles can't burn out or be lazy. I've seen translators take forever on what should be very quick chapters.

And all this time I thought it was a group with a strange interest in tranny manga. That explains why it doesn't have any drama despite the political-looking focus.

Is this thread only for manga? Or is subbing ok?

you still exist?

What the fuck happened to the fansub community?

So is it Kino's Journey or not?

Dunno. You tell me:
a.uguu.se/tA0n1kIoLNsM_archive.7z

why not
at this point subbing is an ancient lost art
never again will we get autistic karaoke magic like this
dador.github.io/JavascriptSubtitlesOctopus/railgun.html

CR

shit usually I have to ask people to dump raws and they never do

You're Welcome Scans seem pretty chill. Good taste in manga, too.

Did Crunchyroll sue everybody to death or something?

>shilling your own group

No, they started subbing literally every series every season and got the raws early

I'm just a one man operation that does some stuff on whim. I worked on a series once, and a I found out a new season is coming so I'll probably give it a go assuming I have time.

Yeah where can I find how to do stuff like this? People asked for it but I didn't know the first thing about fancy karaoke magic and didn't have time to learn.

I'm pretty sure they straight up bought the fansub community

What kind of manga do you want to translate?

Fansub still has a place for ova and movies.

>literally every series every season
Do they let politics influence which series they'd sub? Like something that's way too problematic for them like lewd lolis?

>where can I find how to do stuff like this
It's an art as much as any other. For those lightning effects, you might have to get good with a vector art program like Inkscape.

As you've probably noticed, Aegisub operates best on a per-frame basis. That means that if you want to do motion tracking, then the only way to do it is to literally transform the subtitles for each frame.

Fortunately there are tools that can automate things like that for us, and so Blender's only valid use-case becomes churning out motion capture data.

Turnip
Royal

Snowshoe

>Snowshoe
Pretty sure they're dead.

I just like the series they scanlate

Attached: 1545594228494.png (1093x744, 881K)

Fuck

Yea Forumsnonymous is a pretty cool group.

>Inkscape
Yeah, probably not happening. I don't do it nearly enough to get -that- autistic. It already takes me like 4 or 5 hours to churn out a good episode after review and stuff. What about just regular syllable-by-syllable stuff and echo effects? Is it possible with just vanilla Aegisub? That's probably as far as I'll go on my own tbqh.

>tfw 3 translators in my group
>tfw all 3 of them are lazy

Just imagine it's a high school scanlation club and all 3 of them are girls

Do they eat cake and drink tea all day?

Typesetter pleb here, is TL a tedious role?

They also call you names and make you do stuff for them but secretly they all have feelings for you and by the second semester they'll be on each other's throats trying to take you

>ywn read a manga about cute scanlator girls doing cute things

>new TL joins
>fast as hell
>give him almost nothing to do, to not scare him off

I mean there are plenty of ones where they DRAW their own shit so

>new TL is more reliable than the old TL
>still have to give tasks to old TL to give a semblance of a functional group to convince the new TL to stay

Cute mangaka doing cute things sure, but not cute scanlators doing cute things.

Attached: 1560048021308.png (671x683, 534K)

>tfw no series about taking care of your ailing mother while trying to make ends meet with donations from your shitty scanlation work

We've had way too much exposure to real scanlators to be able to dramatize cute scanlators doing cute things

It depends on the complexity of the original text. Though some of the issues come after the chapters release and you get people bitching that they wouldn't have phrased it like that.

What if the original text has furigana?

What sites typically have the best manga discussions? I started translating a decently popular series to be able to discuss it with other people but so far the discussions I've seen mostly suck.

>the kaos-chan of scanlators

If anything, Aegisub's biggest feature is its karaoke, but good luck figuring out how it works

Yea Forums when dump threads don't die lol

What series are you translating?

He doesn't care about scanlators anyways since they're all western pigs.

Not a series I'm working on, but it was a series about a guy who was seeing a girl who wasn't a virgin and people commented to complain about the people who called her used goods. And now we can add a new level, since I'm complaining about the people who complained about the people complaining she was used goods.

>I Shaved. Then I Brought a High School Girl Home.
That was a fun shitfest.
mangadex.org/thread/90657/1

That's nothing. Drifters updated recently and the people who aren't complaining about delays keep guessing that Lu Bu's showing up since they have no recollection of Yoshitsune existing.

Why Lu Bu? Why do so many people hope that guy shows up?

At this point the manga's probably close to ending because everyone's heading to the castle ruins that Nobunaga and Toyohisa's fathers fought at 400-500 years prior. And it was at that same place that Yoichi and Nobunaga were first living at when Toyohisa arrived in the new world.

>let me google the exact comment on mangadex so I can see who you are, user
No?

>implying anyone gives a fuck who you are
Mangadex barely even shows up as Google results in the first place, dumb paranoidposter

This paranoia is what lets me survive

>not letting someone else take the credit for your work as you hand him your scans like a puppet
>if anything happens, he takes the hit instead

I made my MD account of which I'm not sharing the nick with any other sites with a throwaway gmail

If that nick isn't used anywhere else, what's the problem of showing it? Literally no one here gives a fuck anyways, especially on the scanlation thread where even fewer people gives a fuck.

Just use temp mails user.

Are there any scanlators where the TL is actually Japanese?

What about the 10 missing pages from a chapter of clover (hirakawa)?

It's not particularly difficult. Aegisub comes with a lot of tools built in for that stuff, just read the documentation on their site. The problem is that you still have to do the timing for each syllable and that takes way more time than it's worth, in my opinion. If I had a dedicated kfx person who could do it while I worked on the rest, I'd include them in everything, but I do pretty much everything myself and don't want to waste time when well-styled lyrics look perfectly fine already. The only time I've ever actually done kfx was when I stole it from DDY for the first part and wanted to stay consistent when the show started using a different section of the song for the latter half, so all I had to do was time and position the new lines and even that took a whole evening.

It's likely possible that there is software out there that can approximate timing for us. In the industry, it's called Phoneme Alignment.

i.e. this research paper makes use of phoneme alignment. It seems to be a supervised deep learning technique, which means that they need to do a lot of phoneme alignment... which implies that they have software that can do it for them, because meat labor isn't the source of good papers.
youtube.com/watch?v=0ybLCfVeFL4

>we first align the transcript to the video
I doubt it. It's probably making determinations through the text and just pulling video from that section. Even if it can make approximations based on text+timecodes, it will likely get thrown off by the non-standard lengths common in songs or the music blaring behind the voices. Rough approximations aren't really helpful anyway since you have to be pretty precise or it comes out looking like shit.

I miss karaoke in OP

That's not karaoke. That's an animation that plays over English text at different speeds based on a single variable.

Hey anons, this isn't related to scanning manga, but rather a normal book I have, but i figure I would ask here

I have a book I want to debind and scan. It's a paperback. I'm not too worried about the debinding proicess since there's a ton of guides for that but I'm wondering how I'll actually scan the pages themselves.

The book's pages aren't full 8 1/2 by 11 inches, but are smaller, so i'm not sure loading them into the feed tray of a scanner will work, and the book has like 600 pages and i'm sure as shit not doing it manually.

I've heard of DIY setups that just opens the book up in a 90 degree angled pit so the book is splayed open, then you just have a camera stand or something to take photos of each page as you turn it. Anybody got guides to make those or know how much money those tend to cost? I'm actually more interested in scanning artbooks and museums catalogs long term, so such a setuip will only really be useful for this specific book and maybe a few others (which unlike this one I can't/won't debind), so I would't wanna drop like 500$ on that.

Any other advice or ideas? Also, any communities online for fourms or private trackers that deal with book scanning for stuff that's not manga that I don't need to suck like 500 people's dicks and spend a year hopping from tracket to tracket to get into?

There are plenty of designs for book scanners, one that is automatic will be out of your budget.
Book scanning rigs are used only when you really don't want to destroy the book because it's the first copy of the Old Testament or something like that. The scan quality they produce is decidedly a compromise.

If you are scanning a book, and by a book I mean that it's full of text and you don't give a shit about the scan quality, then you can just shove it a handful at a time into a document feed scanner like the Fujitsu iX500. They work on almost all reasonably sized pages.

If you're scanning pictures... things where scan quality matters, then you want to do it one page at a time on a flatbed scanner.
Cover the opposite side of the page with a black sheet of paper, this will completely eliminate bleed-through.
Adjust any light, contrast, etc. settings on your scanner before you attempt to edit them on your computer, because your scanner is working with more information than your computer will have.

As for "what scanner," obviously we need to start at your use case.
Manga is black-and-white print of primarily digital assets. This means the DPI is usually topped at ~300, and with little subtlety of details. Furthermore, they're at a usually small size where distortion over long distances isn't an issue. The restriction to black-and-white means that we don't require perfect color reproduction.
All of this means that our content is suited towards a CIS scanner, which are decidedly inferior to CCD scanners, but are cheaper and simpler to configure.

CCD scanners are more complex in terms of optics, but because of it, have characteristically better color reproduction and less distortion caused by subsections of the page not being evenly flat across the glass.

For manga, something in the $75-300 range is fine, i.e. the Epson Perfection V series.

Shieet, alright, cool.
I'll see if I can get my guys to take a look on this.
We'd prefer novel raws, but I mean, it doesn't hurt to work on these in the mean time.

I've been stuck decensoring some h-manga (black bars). I don't mind redrawing so much but the fact that the tones are uneven shades makes autofill and even manually clone stamping doesn't seem to work nicely, and overall a very time-consuming process.
Are there any guides/tips/tools to speed this up? Am I doing it wrong or am I just bad
I know there's a neural network decensorer, but heard it only does color images, and handles manga tones poorly.

Yea Forums

I'm part of a different one that is too interested in drama for my liking (read: they are slightly interested), but overall they don't involve me, help with the series I want to translate, and it's fine.

Hachimitsu is a fucking soldier and a saint.

Just quietly scanlating craptons of gay ass manga for the hell of it.

Observer of Time can go f*ck himself.

Yeah gradient screentones are huge pains in the butt.
When you know you're dealing with gradient screentones, you want to stamp the screentone pattern on another layer.
Then go over it with burn/dodge(darker/brighter), at like 2-6% while being zoomed out until it looks decent.

Just ask the original artist for the uncensored version lol

Thanks, I'll try it out
Good idea, I'll check if he'll email me the PSDs or CLIP files while I'm at it

I don't even like tranny manga but I can respect his persistence.

idk which thread to ask this in but anyway, how do i access 13dl? it just gives me error 1020 access denied crap. used a us server on a vpn app and it gave me error 1005 instead

>motorcycle, not a bike

What's wrong with choosing one synonym over the other?

Except it's not trying to go legit. That line was taken out of context from a pipe-dream discussion almost a year ago about where does he see MD going in 5-10 years. Basically a "wouldn't it be nice if we could keep all the scanlations, but work out a revenue deal that would give back to more niche authors while increasing what gets translated"

Publishers would never let that happen, so the whole discussion is moot.

>Don't put punctuation on its own line.
Why does STALKER do this?

Different user here, but the issue is JapaneseEnglish rarely has perfect 1:1 analogs. In many cases a verb in Japanese can mean 3-4-5+ similar words in English. Which comes back to: Translation is the conveying of *ideas* from one language to another, so the specifics can vary greatly based on context.

English is also a much more descriptive language than Japanese, so in conveying the same tone/idea for a scene or bringing character personalities into play, it opens up even more nuances in exact word choice. The same phrase can be written different ways in English depending on the personality or speech qualities of the character saying it.

Dunno about STALKER but I do it when the bubble is too tight and to fix the shape of the text.

He literally has punctuation marks after each letter of his name
Yes, I know the game he's referencing, that was a joke

Because a lot of things in these typesetting guides are subjective. When reading that one I noticed a bunch of things that were the exact opposite of Blambot's guides.

Deathcore
Wet Moon
Soft Metal Vampire
Teiichi no Kuni
Pi
Joshikousei ni Korosaretai
Joshi Kouhei
Adam to Eve
Shin Nozokiya
Sora no Makigai
Shoujo Kidan Makora

And if you click on the mangaka of each of these series you find more stuff unscanlated.
You probably won't work on any of them though.

Works on my machine.

God I feel bad for Tobita Nikiichi. I've enjoyed all two of his works that I've read but all of them have either been dropped by publishers or shitcanned and the rest haven't been translated.

Isn't Monster x Monster fully translated? I thought they dropped just his last work.

It got the axe. That's why there's a massive timeskip all of a sudden and a rushed ending.

I've never heard Komi Scan doing anything drama filled
Granted the only do like 2 series, so maybe that's why

It can be if you're like me, insecure about my translations and a perfectionist.

Does anyone know a good medical manga to read that isn't any of the Hataraku series or Radiation House (because I'm already reading them)?

seems like it's about totally not germany on the african front. MC is a cute girl by the looks of it.

I've been enjoying Anaesthesiologist Hana.

This is on QC, release soon

Does anyone here have the raw to the first chapter of Hataraku Kesshouban (働く血小板) on Monthly Sirius 2019-7? I checked almost every underground Japanese comic rip site but they don't have it.

Indesign, a lot of pros use it.

Latest issue of sirius is on desertsnow

what the hell happened with mahou shoujo asuka manga?

What is the minimum acceptable size of raws? What if it isn't available?

Most people think the minimum height should be 1,200 px. However, some people think it should be a minimum of 1,600 px.

If you can't get at least 1,200 some people use waifu2x to increase the size enough to fix that.

One user advised for best outcome to use upscaling first with anti-aliasing disabled, then run the anti-aliasing on the images by itself.

My bad, I meant run denoising by itself. I've never used waifu2x myself.

What's happening with Mangadex? Briefly saw something going on with them.

Certain groups of fan translation teams (mostly ones that make money) pulled their chapters from MD, since MD won't comply with their demands. Honestly, both sides are being stupid, but the groups are trying to say MD is a sellout that plans to go legit like Crunchyroll and Fakku. It's very unlikely to happen though, so it's like they're trying to create artificial panic.

From what I see, a bunch of scanlators are pulling out claiming that new policies that MD announced regarding them "going legit" are the cause. From where I sit, some of the groups leaving are just using that an excuse one of the groups however had recent drama because a faster group that isn't begging for money sniped one of their more popular series.

So it looks like a mix of certain scanlators trying to secure profits and MD having some retarded ideas for the long-term viability of the website.

We've had like a dozen threads about it already, look through the archives if you want.

The long and thick of it is that a bunch of faggots translating mostly isekai garbage and gook mouse wheel stress testers got pissy at mangadex again for some silly bullshit.

>a bunch of scanlators
I haven't seen the most updated list but it wasn't really very many groups. And most of the ones leaving weren't really working on anything particularly popular.

Solo Leveling may have been popular but there's plenty of series that could replace its popularity on MD. Gong Heon Ja is new and is shaping up to be a strong contender.

it's 10 groups that have "signed" that forum post. Depending on how you view popular, the guys translating Ajou-san could have been a big hit had they not been sniped by a better group. The rest are isekai series and Jaiminis had a wider spread but again. Maybe not anything you care for. I don't get this move because the best benefit of an aggregator site is visibility, not everyone is checking your site frequently or setting up RSS feeds to stay up to date so I feel like this is going to drop the traffic to their sites rather than boost it.

But my real beef with this is that by pulling older chapters they create holes since most of the groups I'm aware of didn't start or finish a particular series so you have situations where chapters 30-45 are missing because one of these chuckle fucks pulled out. I guess it's shame on me for not downloading the chapters to keep on my hard drive but I do enjoy popping into MD on my phone to re-read older stuff as well and having a single location is always more streamlined than jumping between two sites even if it's just a couple clicks away.

I do expect some of them to renege in a couple months though. But the smaller groups since the larger ones have the thicker prides.

Does anybody happen to recognize this font?

Attached: 1546422908428.jpg (106x171, 13K)

I've really loved the dragon quest doujin, but everything he made after that i just couldn't bear to read it.

Chiller?

If they're losing donations I think it's because people just don't feel like paying for something they can easily get for free. I don't see any revenue drops as being due to MD.

It's just Another.

Oh, thanks.

>I do expect some of them to renege in a couple months though.

I don't, I just don't believe people that like drama are humble enough to recognize they fucked it up, I do believe MD has a fault in listening to scanlators in the first place, or at least putting up with their shit as much as they did.

>using a sfx font for bubbles
What kind of faggot does this?

Me. As long as it resembles the original font who cares.

So MD is too much of a pushover?

In some regards i would say yes, like giving jewmine the ability to have a 2 week delay per episode when at most it was 1 week for other groups.

The original font is like this, normal font on the left for comparison
If you have great suggestions I'm willing to listen.

maybe CC Spooky Tooth

I don't know if the people translating Bakemonogatari are here. If you are, then I just wanna say I love you. You're a hero.

Just use Wild Words and make it transparent lol

jcafe ded for good?

I fucking detest JewminisBox. I hope a group snipes some of their shit.

Komika Boo.

It can't be hard to just make a script that rips a given manga off their page and prepare it to be reuploaded to mangadex, can it?

That's not the problem, the problem is that MD is actually willing to not upload chapters when a group request to do so, meaning that even is someone upload the chapter it'll get deleted.

I like it, I think I'll use this one. It kind of pains me to break consistency though.

>using fonts
>not just drawing every letter by hand

One project finally has typesetters, but I'm still too lazy to TL further so they'll probably catch up before I'm motivated again.

Another project is on hold because I was thinking too much whether it was possible to release it officially (just two volumes, not too popular), but obviously it wouldn't be possible to even talk to the publisher, I'm a literal nobody with only some fan TL piracy under my belt. But since I was overthinking it I can't bring myself to continue right now.

Want to sub two unsubbed anime (one from this season, one releases two episodes a year), but don't have time to make/edit timing myself, so that's on hold as well.

this, if you care about quality it's the only way
