Some of it is clearly heavily referenced while some of it is obviously traced. I think the problem of the matter is that he’s just blatantly ripping off other artists/photographers with these pieces. I mean, he might have thought at the time that it was okay since these are all from “official works” or something along those lines and that in copying off of thosee works he wouldn’t be breaking any moral code? He can pump out landscapes in less than 30 minutes and his technical skill is a testament to that, but his inability to create any other meaningful form of art makes him criticized as an artist throughout the years.

Aside from the other problems that I honestly don't feel too strongly about, his style is just too clean and pristine and, I dunno, shallow for GitS. I don't want no bezel-less, manicured, picture perfect, surround sound, integrated with Facebook and 900-dollar Apple stand new-age pussy vibe and backdrop in my bisexual big robotitty full cyborg supersoldier commando genius cyberpunk anime. His art doesn't evoke any interest, for some reason. There's none of the grit and grimness that have become synonymous with GitS, and cyberpunk/transhumanism in general. Hell, even SAC major has some depth and intrigue to her character design. She looks far more feminine than her earlier iterations, but there's still a powerful underlying hint of intensity in the tone and style.

Kuvshinov's pieces literally all come across as the same bland bullshit. They all have the same soul. It's like sameface, but for the entire fucking work.

Experience of being on the internet since I can remember and stalking/following multiple artists from a variety of niches. This whole conversation has gone completely off its original track and we are now arguing about deviantart for no reason. If you’re trying to prove some sort of point, you need to write more concisely and clarify what exactly it is that you’re trying to say.

I know a couple of good artists personally (who also posted on Yea Forums in drawfag threads and whatnot) and my relatives are visiting an art school. I also know a couple of artists like Arsenixc who worked for a multiple of VNs and many other projects.
First thing that you learn about being an artist - COPY THE OTHERS, DO THAT ALL THE FUCKING TIME. Eventually you'd develop your own style and even then nobody stops you from making tributes to the other artists and their stuff if you want it, similar to their own style.
Nothing is "original" in any form of entertainment and "art".

I realize that some of these are cherrypicked and that the pic could be read as misleading, and I realize that some of those images were meant to be tributes, and that some of them were just referenced. But the guy has even admitted and apologized in regards to tracing and relying too heavily on the original works to the point of borderline plagiarism. It's called a reference photo, even your favorite animators and artists like Yutakaka Nakamura and Hiroyuki Imaishi use other artist's stuff as a reference, whether it's used as inspiration or as an "original work." Hating on Ilya Kvshinov for being a fan of anime and wanting to draw these scenes in his own style or using his own skill is an insult to tons of artists and animators, amateurs and professionals. It's not simply "tracing." I could bring up any number of good artists and you'll see that they, too, have done what Kvshinov has.

Yeah the biggest problem I have with this design is that she doesn’t even look like herself. There is not one bit of semblance between her past looks and this one showcased here, except uhh, her eyebrows are still furrowed I guess? Obviously his style strays completely far off from the rest of the ones used in the franchise, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing, but he should’ve at least took the initiative to pay more attention to the features of her design and tried his best to adapt them into his own style, while simultaneously keeping somewhat of her same look.

They KNOW it's bad, so they keep pushing the fact that x guy is behind it when he probably didn't even had much input at all.

Or even worse, entire projects hyped up just by the inclusion of a single person, when you have no clue what that person is even doing, how much they're contributing and even more importantly, who was working with that person in their previous projects, who may very well had more of an impact than the "famed" collaborator.
Good projects are the result of many people doing good work on it, unless that person was in charge of almost everything and extremely key to the project it doesn't matters that much in the grand scheme of things, and even then if they were, there's so many factors that can completely change future projects.

When has this shit ever actually worked before because I see this shit constantly and they're always completely forgotten and a total flop.
