So yes zerotsu died, the conditioned zerotsu, but the transcendent zerotsu survives and not only survives but thanks to reincarnation is able to experience a new story with two of his/her favorite characters.

It doesn't sound like you were and I don't mean to sound like I'm frustrated if I am. I'm just trying to discuss this because it's always been an interesting point of discussion, in that sense one of the only good things that came away from this ending was that it was thought provoking.
Kokoro and Mitsuru had certain circumstances that lead them back together. Had the rest of the squad not wanted to see them (and sort of pushed them) get back together and had there not been a baby in the situation theres a very distinct possibility they wouldn't have. And even going forward the nature of there relationship will be fundamentally different because it wasn't built on the same subjective experiences that made up their initial infatuation. It is always going to be a relationship that at its core is bound by duty to a previous arrangement than genuine love which kind of kills the whole message of love prevails for me, which is what I assume they were going for with the cliche "rekindling love after memory loss" situation.
The same goes for new Hiro and 02, in everything but memory they may be the same people. But I fall more under the persuasion that it is those subjective experiences and the environment you develop in that have a much greater impact on who you are as a person than what is predetermined by your DNA (or soul in case of DitF). So to me that scene of the new kids getting together just feels like it was made as a poor atempt mitigate the overwhelming feeling of loss they left with the ending, or it was made for an audience that gives a little creedance to the idea of reincarnation, which is something I am unable to reconcile with.

Either way, I don't think you're understanding my perspective. I'm not talking about whether or not they will develop identically, and yes, the big thing that's annoying about the reincarnation is that their love is meaningless without the context of all the suffering they went through to be together.
However, I'm talking about consciousness.
Let's say you have a person and make an exact clone of him. The original person is the real one, while the other one is a copy with its own experiences. The first one will not experience what the second one is experiencing.
However, when you have souls, you're not simply making a copy, but transferring the actual consciousness of the person in question. NuHir02 are the direct, continued existence of the previous characters, even if they don't have their memories. They're not just genetic copies or clones. They're going to develop differently, maybe have some different traits, and the fact that they don't remember their previous struggle is insulting to the viewer, but it's still their souls and them experiencing it. Obviously something also still remains from the previous incarnations, because destiny or some kind of will within their souls draws them together. Call it a subconscious attraction if you will.
Also, in the original ending Nishigori came up with, 02 was supposed to become a goddess, while Hiro reincarnates alone, which is even worse than what we actually got.

But that still makes them different people. Even if the life force essence is continued on from before, without the memories of the previous life they are still effectively different people.
When an elderly member of your family who hasn't even passed on but loses their memory of you, they effectively stop being your relative as far as they are concerned. The only thing that maintains those connections is the existence of those memories, when one or more of those parties loose those memories, the connections are effectively severed as if they never occurred, even if it is an absolute fact that it did. Even with the magic of the soul in this case, memory loss still erases the old 02 and Hiro and resets them.
I understand where you're coming from but I guess my stance rephrased would be you be that it is memories possessed that would be the most important part in determining who somebody is, and that is what they lost in the events of the ending. And that's what infuriates me so much, even with the supposed magic and even the idea of what they had in mind you either have to beleive in reincarnation, not beleive in individualism (these are both things the Japs do) or just straight up not think about the ending to get any satisfaction out of it. And they only added this to mitigate how shitty they made the ending in the first place, but it doesn't even fucking work. The first point can be argued both ways, and I end up somewhere in the middle. I agree that it's a cop-out and that the characters lose something fundamental when you kill and reincarnate them, considering they've lost the very experiences that bound them together (being the only two rebellious souls in an oppressive, soulless shithole). However, I also believe that they'll retain their personalities, and I also believe that because supernatural elements like souls and destiny exist in the Franxx universe, they retain at least something from their past selves, like a vague, subconscious memory or awareness.
The fact that Hiro was reading the book that 02 recreated, under the tree that sprouted from her body, and that 02 still likes candy enough to carry it around (which was a learned behaviour because she associates them with Hiro), imples that their souls are somehow aware of their previous existence and have inherited non-genetic traits from them. They wouldn't be drawn to those items if it nothing carried over from their past selves.

We are on the same page. But if it were me, who got to live on from a reset like that and was somehow informed of that at some point in my second life while still not being able to recall any of it, I'd probably consider myself a completely different individual even if though I am the continued existence of my former self in every conceivable way.

I also agree with this as well as all of the other points you made and I understand that is what they had meant to imply. But, given my thoughts on individuality and identity it is entirely lost on me. In my mind the ending we got would have felt no different than if they had just died. Nishigori was in no way obligated to end his story otherwise and in some way it may still tie in with the whole "love prevails" theme of the show "souls travelling across time and space to get to live a life together that was meant to be." But for me to be happy with then ending it would have been Hir02 surviving and getting to live a full life back on earth.

While this is true, I have explain that the mutation isn’t done with them having their human skin. Will you accept an outcome where they go into the Shrek path, monster x monster? I think that’ll carry a lot more meaning because that is what the show actually focuses on, the theme of humanity. The reincarnation shit screws up the theme and has the show ironically disregard living and caring beings for being monsters. It’s not unreasonable at all to desire the outcome you have described, in fact, it’s the obvious best ending for this monster x human couple.

I can understand that. A lot conflicts and characters were god awful in that part of the story. Who cared about ichigo x Goro, Zorome x asuka, and Mitsuro x kokowhore? I didn’t care at all. I hated the outcome with the flawed parasites because it completely removed all sense of tension from the show. Negating the eventual demise of parasites completely with some out of nowhere lesbian science, completely neglects any of its foreshadowing or relevance to the story. If all the parasites die at a rapidily quick rate (due to their biology) when Hiro and 02 return from the final battle, that’ll give us a natural bittersweet end to the series.

I don't think that was the intent. They showed 02 talking about taking a bath and wanting to swim in the ocean, then she spots the lake at the plantation. She's not referring to Hiro.
Also, it wasn't really a chance meeting, as the doctor explains in episode 21 that he took her there on purpose to meet up with Hiro again.
