Release the Spyce

Is this the prime example of how intensive shilling, massive promotions, and seiyuu events and panels can't save a flawed show?

couldn't get passed episode 3. i really tried to get into it, but it just wasn't interesting.

Sure

Pretty much, it looked like it was going to be fantastic, but turned out to be disappointing

Poor man's PriPri

PriPri didn't have an overseas convention panel though.

I want to like Momo's pits and tummy.

I want to fuck Byakko

PriPri movies when? ;_;

When Ange's VA comes back

Is having an overseas panel even a big deal? Is AFA even important?

What about ENDRO~!? Did it SALES?

It sold less but by only about a hundred copies. Statistically insignificant in the grand scale of things.

It is pretty impressive how much the hype fell flat. It had everything it needed to be good, too, they just couldn't make the story or characters at all engaging or interesting.

Did we ever find out how Momo's dad died?

The next season 5toubun was an example that you can show your viewers a PowerPoint presentation and it would still sell because of shilling and the power of seiyuus

Attached: 1555127418569.jpg (1920x1080, 334K)

But it was really good.

Why is Momo so perfect, Yea Forums?

Attached: 2ac11434e1128d20aa98025a8e5b561e.jpg (2895x4096, 473K)

Too bad her VA never got another main role

You forgot her moomoos.

Surprised no one mentioned her tummy yet.

It had about as much promotion as any other show, and it had no big name seiyuus and wasn't animated by a known studio to attract people's attention.

>no big name seiyuus
Manami Numakura? Aya Uchida?

>wasn't animated by a known studio
Are you implying Lay-duce isn't famous?

Lay-Duce aren't that famous, not enough to attract fans. The most prominent thing you heard about Spyce before it aired was that Namori did the designs, the rest paled in comparison.

Apparently the staff cared enough about it to shill it everywhere before it aired though. Especially with those manga and novel spinoffs.

>what is Kill la Kill
>what is Cross Ange
>what is Goblin Slayer

All three sold well and ended up becoming popular. Spyce flopped.

They spelled spice wrong, of course they'd fail

Atleast the op was catchy.

The soundtrack was the only really good thing about it.

supa pa pa

Everything about it was good.

I still listen to the OP almost daily

A better example would be Violet Evertarded.

I guess.

>Yuyuyu died for this
What exactly is wrong with Takahiro? Why is he the way that he is?

They toned down the yuri to much.

But we got a Spyce x Yuyuyu collab out of it.

Spyce was not nearly as bad as Yea Forums makes it out to be, it just needed a bit more editing.
A lot of it is just anons being butthurt that they didn't go full edge with the Mei "betrayal" when it was obvious from the beginning of the reveal that she was a triple agent.

PriPri x Spyce collab when?

Thankfully, because of our salesfags this show will never be forgotten.

I love the soundtrack in PV and first episode.
That was only good thing in the show.

>both of namori's new anime projects failed

I'm worried about the future of YrYr

YrYr literally made ten times its jap kickstarter goal, it's gonna be fine for the foreseeable future.
Spyce is not dead until the mobage dies. Don't forget that BD sales are pretty irrelevant nowadays compared to streaming.

What happened to Momo's VA?

We're married.

I like it.

How did Momo's dad die again?

Attached: Tiara.png (700x700, 509K)

Who?

Sort of main character I suppose.

The premise was fine but at some point you could notice that whoever was directing this forgot what the show was about, the MC having super senses which was supposed to play an important role in the future became irrelevant and only worked when the plot needed it, just to name one of many mistakes, the execution in general was lame, which made me mad since the show had so much potential, this was basically the Fairy Gone of 2018, anyone watching Fairy Gone should understand what I mean.

He slept in a fridge.

Attached: [HorribleSubs] Release the Spyce - 01 [720p].mkv_snapshot_13.46.001.jpg (1280x720, 84K)

Byakko was great.
everything else was pretty vanilla except for the trap music, which didn't go over either.

>Is this the prime example of how intensive shilling, massive promotions, and seiyuu events and panels can't save a flawed show?
Why would it? I don't get what point you're trying to make. It was an original anime marketed toward a late-night otaku audience, all of this would've happened regardless of the show's quality.

Attached: [HorribleSubs] Release the Spyce - 03 [720p].mkv_snapshot_08.46_[2018.11.03_12.29.25].jpg (1280x720, 107K)

Spyce had an overseas panel with the cast. In Indonesia. Relatively few shows have done that.

The problem with Fairy Gone is that it's way too wrapped up in its own setting and spends too much time with infodumps and the like, which makes it incredibly boring.

Spyce's problem was that the main plot felt like an afterthought and the writers very obviously just wanted to do a bunch of spy story vignettes based off of James Bond films, and that bad time management lead to asspulls in the finale because too many things happened offscreen. But it wasn't a bad show.

>plotfags
Fuck off.
I watched it for cute girls doing badass things.

Can we agree that Spyce had the best uniforms of the season?

Momo has a nice tummy

She's very fuckable.

Attached: momo tsu.jpg (1252x1361, 292K)

Attached: momo_bikini.jpg (1279x1514, 288K)

It's a really strange case, I didn't hate the show but I wouldn't call it good, either. I think a lot of the problem was the characters all seemed to be bland, like none of them really stood out from "we're all friends and ninja spies!" None of them had any real motivation for being there outside of this overblown and generic desire to protect the town.

It was really goddamn boring and played it safe
With Yuuki Yuuna you could tell shit was going to go down even when it just killing monsters

You could tell by just watching the PVs. The characters had nothing going for them, they were just empty CGDCT archetypes. Despite how pretty a show is or how good the music they use is, that should be a red flag.

I like 4-girl CGDCT shows but if the characters have nothing interesting or unique about them, and you've already watched a handful of them, what is the point?

Endro was exactly the same.

Attached: 1548731701086.png (1200x1078, 932K)

I really enjoyed it, It was a nice show to watch late at night on Saturday but also what said, They played it way too safe the double agent plot was obvious from a mile away.
Still liked it though.

Attached: 1535064347683.jpg (1280x720, 103K)

I want to firmly grab her ass.

it was okay
I like the costumes

Endro at least has coherent story with clear goal for all characters involved.

I didn't even watch Spyce so I wouldn't know that. I'm just talking impressions I got of the characters in the PV. Endro I watched 3 or 4 episodes of and got so bored of it.

Would the show have been better if Mei was not a triple agent?

I would have been fine with Mei fake traitor plot if they revealed that Momo was an undercover cop.

Attached: 1551898015067.jpg (1280x720, 361K)

No, it was a fun reveal.

Yes. It should have been simplified and the characters fleshed out. They kept throwing ideas in that didn't really matter and ate up a lot of time. The betrayal was one of the more transparent plot points, obviously only leading to an ending where half the team is out of commission so that the apprentices appear useful. Ignore the fact that Momo was mopey and depressed until the last hour and even in the ending could only go "muh shishou."

I think it would have benefited from a lighter tone, and less twists and drama nobody wanted. There was a clash with how cartoony (or just plain stupid) the characters were and how serious the story tried to be.

Attached: 1546956415577.jpg (1920x1080, 1.11M)

>want to tell a serious spy drama
>worry that otaku won't watch it unless the girls are colorful and silly
>end up with a middle of the road production nobody liked
They have to pick one or the other. The second you start altering your story/setting/characters to fit a more commercially/socially motivated set if criteria, your story loses so much impact.

So if the show was bad and not well-thought out, why bother promoting it with an overseas panel in the first place?

So that retards like you won't shut up about it.

Momo was the sexiest girl of the season

Show needed cute ninja spies doing other cute ninja spies

Attached: 1545989650545.png (900x1022, 736K)

Mei carrying Fuu on here shoulder like she acquired a new sexpet was so hot.

>implying Fuu wasn't already her sexpet
I liked Spyce because of how gay it was

Attached: 1540778607048.jpg (1920x1080, 741K)

She was her housewife.

her sexpet housewife
meanwhile this dumb shishou gave up a cute and sexy girl for incomprehensible reasons

It did poorly

>1,326 Release the Spyce vol.1
>1,335 Endro~! vol.1

Is this the FUCK YOU I LIKED IT thread?

Most of the shitting on Spyce is from edgefags mad that the traitor plotline didn't turn out as dark and edgy as they wanted

This, and then there is that one fag who doesn't like the clash of lighthearted and grimdark tones for some artificial reason.

I've never seen someone stonewall someone's advances so hard. Yuki did not give a single shit.

Attached: 1559096373712.jpg (1280x720, 426K)

Yuki clearly wanted some of her ripe JK cunny, if anything she was cuntblocking herself

Don't steal my exact thougts. I didn't like the ending at first, I was hoping for a better impact. But then I realized it was one of the possible scenarios I predicted myself, so I won't complain about it.

There's nothing strange about it, the original scripts had to be edited down to fit in 1 cour, so everything that was needed to make it a great show was lost

Because everything grimdark is so cheaply done and there's almost no commitment to it anyways. It's simply drama and plot twists just for the sake of it. If you find that entertaining then that's fine, but there's no narrative value added because the topics are merely glossed over instead of given weight. The show was clearly intended foremost to be cute girls doing cute spy things, and would have been better off without shoehorning in edge and fake deaths.

MY MAMA ALWAYS ALWAYS TOLDS ME

As result of the outbreak your city or entire region may be endangered by a lethal agent. If conditions at your location make this a possibility you need to consider staying in place until the threat has subsided or blown over.

Attached: spyce called it.png (1379x590, 284K)

>if a story has some edge it simply must go full edge or it's shit
Nah. But anyway, you are just projecting your desires and preferences onto the show and in doing so you become quite biased. While Spyce certainly has some CGDCT, at the same time these bitches fight bigass criminal syndicate dealing in murder, drugs and prostitution, and even themselves commit some pretty illicit actions. It's a basic premise of the setting, which automatically comes with some dark stuff. If you wanted Yuru Yuri with ninja schoolgirls, well, you should have avoided this show based just on the synopsis in one of those seasonal charts. And the other part of your logic works both ways, too. Whether the writer decided to go full edge or not is his own choice. Both ways would work equally well. In case he did actually go full edge and e.g. killed everyone at the end, you could also argue it was just for the sake of being grimdark faggot.

This part was fucking based
Also BD sales are increasingly irrelevant nowadays and 1.3k is not as bad as it was a decade ago. As long as the mobage is ongoing the franchise is still alive.

>the original scripts had to be edited down to fit in 1 cour
Sauce?

The double agent part was. The triple agent part was lame.

Takahiro said in Q&A sessions when there were public showings of the anime

>flawed
it was one of the better shows that season

So why not make it two cour instead?

What if the mobage dies?

No one makes two course shows these days

It was a mess. Takahiro directly admitted they cut a bunch of stuff from the anime, because they, that is he, has no idea how to pace an anime by himself.

It had a live panel in Indo fucking nesia, if that doesn't make it a timeless masterpiece than I don't know what will.
Also, Momo's VA refuses all offers for main roles because this anime made her so filthy rich that she no longer cares.

Cute and funny.

Is this a troll?

Is Numakura really an obscure seiyuu? I was already under the impression that she was fairly well-known.

This is factually wrong, Jojo and Shield Hero are two multi-cour shows airing right now.

No, you're just a fucking idiot who doesn't understand how aesthetic choices and plot events contribute or detract from the value of a narrative. If you're going to have a series where no one dies, that's fine, faking deaths is worthless because it doesn't add any meaning or growth to the story or its characters, only cheap drama, especially when it's recycled over and over. The inclusion or exclusion of death should have a heavy influence on a story's meaning. It never mattered whether Kurara lived or died. Then you have deaths for the sole purpose of backstory angst, while even mooks who are engaged with fire arms and explosives are dispatched with nonlethal KOs. Hell, even the point of Nagaho's death fostering Yuki's attitude towards Momo is rendered pointless because her character is explicitly wiped at the end, again, for cheap drama. None of the drugs, prostitution, or illicit actions have any affect on the the characters because they're handled in such a blase manner without regard for their consequences. You could excise elements from the story without changing the plot or characters and the only difference you get is more tonal consistency. On the other hand, as you mention, you could have massacres and suffering porn in excess so that it, too is meaningless, but the issue lies less in the amount and more in thematic development. Gakkou Gurashi, Sora no Woto, and Yuki Yuna handled that balance far better.

Toji no Miko was two cour, although several episodes were QUALITY but it still counts.

Didn't Yuyuyu die because Mimori got herself a boyfriend?

No. It died because mobage took over the franchise.

Why do they wear sleeveless?

I still hold out hope for a NoWaYu anime

I feel like a NoWaYu anime would be odd at this point now that Hero Chapter basically put a cap on the franchise.

They should have done 6 episodes of NoWaYu, 6 episodes of WaSuYu, and then had 12 episodes to tell Hero Chapter because that arc was rushed as hell.

So what is the game like anyway?

>6 episode NoWaYu
That would be even more rushed than YnS was.

Its a game where you Release the Spyce.

Attached: 1533847805337.webm (806x450, 2.88M)

Why make the game though? Was it planned from the start or did they only create it because the other media was failing?

Planned from the start.

>Was it planned from the start
Yes. It's a growing trend among original anime to start as a multimedia franchise with a gacha game as a financial backup plan.

>Savior of anime
>Anime of the decade
>Shit

Checked and spycepilled.

The traitor plotline turned out to be massively retarded because it relied on blind faith and absurd coincidences for things to work out. Almost every step of the plan could have gone terribly wrong because there was no real way of insuring things worked out, like when Mei almost killed Yuki, or when she loosened the restraints, but everyone's escape hinged on Momo regaining her will to fight right that second. Then there's the fact that Moryo only thought to kidnnap everyone's families like the next day, and not at the same time of the operation to take down Tsukikage.

It would have all been easier for me to accept if Mei had turned traitor for real, but was ultimately swayed by her love for Ninja Chinatsu.

Sauce?

>Almost every step of the plan could have gone terribly wrong
That's the joke. Mei simply doesn't give a fuck. I bet Yuki was forced to leave the group of Mei's attitude.

This is the kind of show that gets dumber the more you think about it. Yuki somehow got robots with swords to miss vital organs but still cripple her, then successfully played dead with fake blood. Hatsume had an exact body double made so it could get cut up underwater in the dead of night, as if you could tell either way, when the person they were trying to fool wasn't even there. Mouryou sent a couple of nameless guys to each of their houses after they escaped from captivity, and just didn't try again.

user, Spyce is about cute girls doing Bond movie things. It's supposed to be kind of dumb.
Also anybody who actually thought that Yuki and Hatsume were dead (and there were a lot of them) were actually retarded.

Nobody thought they were really dead. Nobody was fooled, but still it pretended that these things had real consequences, only to later take it back like with a straight face. These aren't Bond movie things, it's just bad drama.

>nobody was fooled
could've fooled me, I was in those threads and there were plenty of retards who thought they were going full edgemode and forgetting one of the cardinal rules of dumb spy flicks
>never assume someone is dead unless you see the body

Also it was literally established in one of the early episodes that Tsukikage had access to fake blood.

See, that's the thing. A lot of those details don't work out they way they're supposed to. What good does fake blood do against AIs?

>Moryo only thought to kidnap everyone's families like the next day
Mei was feeding Moryo fake info, as shown by the file on Fuu showing her to be a D-cup.

How would an AI know that it struck a fatal blow anyway?

They sent agents to their homes, so its not like all of the info was fake. Its obvious that Moryo investigated the info to make sure it was legit. The only other explanation is that Kurara took everything at Mei's word because she was in love with her, which there are plenty of implications that she was.

It would probably check to see if their target was still alive. The same way a real person would. But no, playing dead works just fine.

Momo's birthday soon

woah it's like namori excels at shows about couple of girls doing nothing

There's fun dumb and then there's this overly dramatic plot doesn't make sense on any level and is sucking away all the fun. The viking episode is a good example of the former. The last few episodes fell into the latter. The stakes in this show were across the entire spectrum, so it was impossible to feel the necessary tension to make some scenes work. When it falls too deep into the drama and you know there will still be zero consequences, you just get bored. Most people weren't actually convinced Mei was a traitor, they just hoped the show might commit to something interesting. Personally I'm still fucking astounded they faked wiping Yuki's memory. The memory wipe didn't seem to have a convincing purpose to begin with, but now that entire subplot was a waste of time. All so they can reuse her later in the mobage most likely.

Why did Endro flop then?

It was not very good. I found myself falling asleep during every episode.

But all the characters were cute and likable

I loved Endro main plot, because it was both funny and feelsy. Filler episodes were meh though.

NoWaYu would need to be two cour or at least 18 episodes long to adapt the novel entirely. And I still hope we get an anime, knowing the end game never stopped prequels from being made.

because the elf was too flat
she should have had huge floppy tits

Attached: elf face.png (500x500, 224K)

You take that back!
Seira was perfect!PERFECT!!!

Dayum. Nippers truly have shit taste.

This show should have never flopped

Yuru Yuri S5 you mean.

Attached: endro yuru.png (960x1080, 567K)

How come Endro almost sold as much as Spyce despite Spyce being promoted a lot more? Endro wasn't even that popular and wasn't pushed much, people only seemed to care about it because of Namori. Meanwhile, Spyce really had a large marketing push.

What intensive shilling? I never saw this show mentioned anywhere except for the one weekly thread on Yea Forums.

It was shilled hard in Japan before it even aired. The cast even went to AFA Indonesia for promotions.

Attached: [HorribleSubs] Release the Spyce - 05 [1080p]-0009.png (1920x1072, 680K)

>yuru yuri without the depth or wit

Because Release the Spyce wasn't very good

Endro was average too

It's mostly because of the scandal about Anzai Yukari (Momo's VA) coupled with the boom of the native isekai market that almost doubled the sales predictions for Endro overnight.

Wait what?

But it delivered what was expected, ie. CGDCT in an RPG world, Release the Spyce didn't. It wasn't Yuru Yuri does James Bond, people who wanted an action show didn't get enough of that and there wasn't much CGDCT to keep those fans happy.

I wonder if this would have been better received if it was made before PriPri.

The director of Endro talked about it in the latest interview.

No, it wasn't promoted as being as dark as PriPri, it gave Totally Spies vibes instead.

You can't just say this and not provide deets. What scandal.

Where would you expect it to be mentioned besides Yea Forums?

FG bored me and I dropped it. Spyce was entertaining and I didn't drop it even if it was flawed.
If Spyce is a 5.5 or 6/10 show, FG is 3/10. Probably because Spyce had entertaining (if simple) cute characters and didn't rely of ugly ass CGI.

Endro was fine, you pretentious fags
But >muh sales
Arguing with salestards who use sales to discuss quality is pointless
Just look at fucking SAO making enough money for Alicization to be granted the ultra rare privilage of 4 cours.

Yes and I'm sad about it.

>flawed
It was outright bad.

post it

Why don't you give it a rest, shitposter-kun?
Ah, that's why. Based nu/a/.

"Rushed" because they omitted pointless SoL? If anything, YuYuYu was too fucking slow in the first half. YnS was easily the best entry into the franchise.
>6 episodes of NoWaYu
Oh, you're merely retarded, I get it now.

I don't reply to his posts, I just really liked Spyce and want to talk about it.

Attached: 1546032354955.jpg (1280x720, 380K)

That's ok.
