Get the cheapest animal products you can find and add a little bit, but not too much, starch to it to prevent neoglucogenesis from protein. Potato and rice works well. A couple of reasons
1. Jean shorts. Jean shorts are - in general - pretty tight and restrict movement in the pelvic region. Now, the goal of a squat is to do just that - squat, meaning that your legs have to move, which happens in ... the pelvic region. So he's already crippling himself there. Also, jean shorts are tight in their openings, so they squeeze one's legs as the muscles contract, making one's movements more difficult.
2. Sandals. When squatting, one wants as one's feet to be as flat as possible on the floor so that one can use the muscles in the leg to drive effectively through the heels of the feet. For this purpose most lifters use converse shoes or go barefoot. Sandals ostensibly offer the same benefit as converse, but in actually they're structurally pretty different. Converse evenly distribute pressure from the foot (and therefore weight from what's being lifted) along the shoe so that there is no area of extremely high pressure and therefore no cutting into the skin of one's feet. Sandals have defined, narrow points of contact, so all of the weight this guy is lifting is pressing into those narrow strips of cloth. Remember that in physics pressure is a function of force and surface area, so this guy is putting much more pressure on parts of his foot than he would barefoot or in proper footwear. There's also the fact that sandals are open-toed shoes, but that's another debate that's not quite settled.
3. "Bodyweight." While the term is certainly ambiguous on its face, the weightlifting community had defined "bodyweight" to mean "without additional weights", as evidenced by "bodyweight exercise routines" involving squats, push-ups, and lunges that one can do at home. OP, purportedly a member of the community, is being purposefully obtuse about the wording.

Seriously though, if lifting heavy things helps you with your life and makes you happy, good for you. But why do you feel the need to judge everyone who doesn't live by your standards and only manage to reply with a slew of buzzwords?

The point of living is to be the greatest human that you can be. That means helping others, and yourself. There is no better way to help yourself than getting in shape and getting educated.

I'm not ragging on ya, just trying to calm you down. I've been cytopenic for a couple years now and it hasn't stopped me from lifting (has impacted how much and how long I can lift, but I'm not hanging up the...bar, I guess.) Point is, I get being feeble, and I was a skinnyfat dweeb when I first started, too.

If you're serious about improving your body, it's just a matter of signing up for a gym, going in 3+ days a week, learning your form, and gradually adding weight once you've nailed the form. Don't overcomplicate things with "well I need to do calisthenics before I can lift, and I need to stretch this and that before each session or I'll injure myself." You're only compromising yourself long term by putting arbitrary prerequisites on your lifting. You could work your way up to 20 weighted pullups for 5 sets and still go to the squat rack and collapse at lmao1pl8. The gym is only as scary as your imagination makes it out to be. Go there and see for yourself how mundane it is.

I've only ever jogged these past few years /fit/. Could do 10-15 km max maybe once every two weeks. A swim or casual bike once a week.

Live in the fucking sticks so no gym near that isn't an hour drive into the city.

l am scared of any long term injuries, is all.
And sure, maybe my crippling lack of self esteem with anything physical has something to do with my unfit nature, but I have gone to the gym before.
I have a history of back problems caused by my lack of flexibility. Sometimes, ny lower back hurts for no reason. And I'm just 26.
That's why I am stretching first. I am afraid to lift things, other than dumbbell exercises. Right now, I'm just following Scooby's workouts at home.

1) jogging is a horrible, destructive trap that combines the worst of sprinting and walking with none of the benefits. Cut that out and switch to a better form of cardio.

2) This is an investment for sure but one that will not let you down. If you have a Play-it-again sports or Craigslist or some way to get used lifting equipment, it's all good, but even if you have to order brand new equipment, it's Worth it in the long run if you can't feasibly access a gym. A bemch, a Squat rack, a barbell, and some plates, will take you as far as you will ever need. You can even cut down to just the bar, plates and squat rack by substituting weighted push ups for Bench press and do OHP in the squat rack.

I know it's not 100% always the case but if someone told me they have a history of back pain and I had to hazard a guess as to why, I'm gonna go ahead and guess you have poor posture from a weak core that causes a vicious cycle. It would be uncommon for you to just have some kind of innate deformity or anatomical anomaly causing it, statistically speaking. If you're hunched over in you chair right now, straighten up and all that. Lifting doesn't cause back problems. Not lifting does. And before anyone says "but injuries happen all the time!" Hitching the deadlift isn't lifting. You aren't performing na deadlift if you're ramping it up your legs and jerking it up with your back to lock it out. If you learn to lift properly now, you'll only have good things comin down the road.

This feels about right for me. Since deadlifting I've never had any back problems, while I occasionally had them before.
It makes sense that when you can deadlift 200kg it's going to be harder to hurt your back by normal daily activities.
