agreed, there not afraid to portray him as a pretty cruel and sadistic guy but they make him equally virtuous in his courage and loyalty to his country and allies. The fact that he's the consistently funniest character of battle tendency, has the coolest design and the best voice acting/lines makes it hard not to root for him. Plus his off screen death was perfect imo and a fitting end to the character.
