Mawaru Penguindrum was definitely my favorite. I feel like I actually got closure there even though it made me actually cry.

Utena TV: 10/10, literally one of the best endings in anime. My only complaint is that Nanami's ending scene isn't as good as it could be for her character.
Utena Movie: 8/10, surrealism got in the way of making as powerful of a message compared to the TV show, but still excellent.
Penguindrum: Haven't watched it yet
YKA: 7/10, the overarching metaphors of the show were sloppy which made the mostly metaphorical ending sloppy as well, but I felt like Kureha/Ginko got the ending they deserved and I like that change was starting with one person going against the crowd rather than everyone at the same time

That info is basically the same that you can get from just looking at them though.

Utena TV: 10/10 One of the best endings to any piece of fiction I've read/seen and my personal favorite ending. It's metaphorical while still being visceral.
Utena movie: 5/10 for the ending. The first two thirds or so of the movie is 10/10 but I don't like the ending much at all. The ending of the show was so nuanced compared to the movie, and the car thing goes on too long.
MPD: 7/10-8/10 depending on the day. It feels a bit rushed and the cages thing comes out of nowhere and could have had some buildup. Regardless it ties the themes together quite well. I didn't like how metaphorical everything was with no basis at all in the world of the characters, but it's not a dealbreaker.
YKA: 7/10 The ending was fine and better than a lot of the buildup but nothing too standout especially since it recycles some things from earlier shows.

I suppose it’s just noitamina, but it really does not work with the whole world Ikuhara is trying to build for us. People are attached to the cops because they at least had some character expansion in the twitter and manga. It gave them a little breadth. The boys have to be crammed into the anime so they get boiled down to “muh kazuki” or “muh brother” which are really effective character motivations but a little more breathing time to expand them beyond just those motivations would have done wonders.

Forgot to add, the sns chats really do help so maybe the manga will too but unfortunately i don’t know how much most viewers will care afterwards.

Imagine if Sarazanmai has 22 episodes instead. We’d get a nice monster of the week formula which works with the story’s format and we’d unlock more and more about the boys and the cops and have more time to get to know them and let them develop relationships amongst themselves. If only we were so lucky.

Honestly I think the show would be stronger if there were more episodes and we actually got scenes of the cops' relationship before it went to shit. A work should be able to stand by itself without outside materials. There's nothing in the show itself that says "go to this twitter account and read this manga" so new viewers who have no idea about the outside material will miss a ton of context for their relationship and just why they're both so crazy about getting it back.

Utena: 9/10. Perfect wrap up for Anthy and Akio but I always felt that Utena got the short end of the stick. Utena's conflict about being a prince is so strongly tier to Anthy that it overwhelms the rest of her character at times. It wasn't a dealbreaker and I do think Utena got a good end, but I wish there had been more introspection on her part of her disillusionment of the prince ideal and her own desires leading up to it.
Utena movie: 6/10. It was a spectacle and I had a good laugh.
Penguindrum: 7/10. Only really works because you're attached to the cast and it plays on your emotions. There's nothing satisfying in Shouma and Kanba sacrificing themselves and the last third of the show leading up to it got progressively more messy. Felt absolutely nothing at the Tabuki, Yuri and Masako parts.
Yurikuma: 10/10. Still my least favorite Ikuni work so far but the ending literally saved the entire show. All of Ikuhara's usual ending beats worked the best with the themes of Yurikuma. The girls being excluded and how the mob saw it as them being defeated, but Uchiko saw it as them finding their own happiness. The message that those societal structures can't be beaten, but are eroded little by little by the people who are true to themselves in spite of them. The glorious bit of Lulu and Mirun fanservice. The closing lines and Sumika narrating them. Perfect ending.
