I recently re-watched this series prior to watching the new OVA Unato Kessen. While it was airing there was alot of complaints about Mumei turning and Biba being shit, but in retrospect I think alot of that criticism was overblown. This show really is fucking good, masterpiece grade if you consider the aesthetics. I really hope Studio Wit greenlits more of this (now that the SNK bucks will be coming to an end).

Biba giving the white serum to Ikoma redeemed it for me. He wasn't just a comic villain who wanted to see the world burn. He was man (albeit a coward) hell bent on revenge, and when he got it he willingly entrusted the future to Ikoma before he died.

Agree. I had pretty much the same feelings while rewatching it. It is really good once you understand that plot is there just to provide some reason for all this cool action on the screen.
By the way, on the rewatch I also noticed how similar certain plotlines and characters were to those in Berserk. Biba is 1:1 copy of Griffith, Mumei's backstory is really similar to Casca's, and Ikoma with one arm and gray hair is similar to Guts.
