Isayama should have stuck to SNK's survival horror roots instead of turning it into surface level socio-political and philosophical commentary. The end was spelled when Isayama admitted to changed the ending midway through to appeal to fans after the series exploded in popularity. It's a bloated, convoluted mess now.

Also, MHA is isn't overrated by critics. It might have an annoying fan base on Tumblr or Twitter, but the scores on sites like MAL are only slightly inflated because of its popularity. It isn't groundbreaking, but it has good characters and hits all the spots that make a shounen great.
