It's not that good desu. Feels like part 5 where each villain leads to finding the final villain, but there's lots of fights that just feel lackluster.
I'm hoping Araki cooks up a grand finale because this is apparently his longest running volume. The dude has MONTH for each chapter and it's not even as good as part 6 imo.

Araki never said anything on the matter so how can you really blame them? They just lack the insight to see what's really going on.

Maybe you're not paying attention then. It started out with Josuke trying to find out his identity, this led to him being attacked by people who had a grudge against Kira and Josefumi, culminating with Damo. After that has been entirely about getting the new rokakaka fruit. At no point has the series been beating enemies, going up the chain to the main bad guy. The most likely main antagonist (and the one with the fruit branch) isn't even the current target of the main characters.

Whether or not the climbing of this "villain ladder" is intentional doesn't matter. The road is still the same. Fight some people who are targeting him for the branch he stole. Defeat them. Go on to find the branch and fight anyone in the way or who may attack you.
Maybe I'm just nostalgic for part 4 where we go to spend time with our main character and his jobros outside of battles. Okuyasuo, Shigechi, and Josuke scavenging for change and lottery tickets was just plain dumb fun. We got to know these characters without there necessarily being a battle with a villain linked to the main villain.

Doppio isn't Epitaph, but is represented by Epitaph. Otherwise Epitaph would have remained with Doppio in Bruno or Doppio would have went with Diavolo without issue

The last couple of minor villains haven't been linked with Jobin at all (actually I forgot that he talked to Poor Tom but even then he was attacked as well). Even with Damo and his underlings, Jobin was just a cog in that machine. He wasn't the leader, Damo was. I would like more downtime too (we got that at times with Shakedown Road and Milagro Man) but you're greatly simplifying what is actually going on in Jojolion. If we did get downtime people would do nothing but complain because of the monthly schedule too. And at this point in the story I don't think sol chapters would fit very well.

See that's what I'm saying. We are at chapter 86 and we haven't really gotten to know the other characters, and you are right, a SOL chapter this late in the game would disappoint a lot of readers. I think the most fleshed out character so far are the blind daughter, Tsurugi, and Joshuu. Joshuu isn't even a main character at this point, he's pretty much just comic relief.
Idk I guess I just thought that 8 YEARS into this manga, and seeing all the praise for it, there would be more to love, but even the main character is pretty fucking bland, approaching Giorno levels of boring.

Should I read the original manga or the colored versions?
I like the color but I can also appreciate how Araki said he doesn't design characters with colors in mind and it's neat to imagine them as different colors.
But the color work also seems to be really well done, so I'm not sure.
