I keep hearing how good AOT is but then season 3 part 2 happened

I never thought I would consider dropping this show.

Attack on Asspulls, Amirite fellas?

Titans are killed when you cut them at the nape. never mind I can just transfer my consciousness
this make a lot of sense.

no one has ever said AOT is good

Except for the thread comparing it to other anime a week ago.

So do the mindless titans have people in them or are the people converted into the titan?

>titan powers are a complete mystery
>new titan powers introduced every single arc up until this point
>hardening, titan summoning, prioritized healing, full crystallization, precise crystalline structure creation, steam powers, the coordinate
>new titan power introduced s3
>O MY NEW TITAN POWER WHAT AN ASSPULL
lol retards

converted far as i know

pretty convenient to introduce it when he should have died.

You mean everyday user?

>pretty convenient to introduce hardening when Annie gets sliced
this is you.

>season 3 part 2
>Watching Araki's fanfiction rather than reading Isayama's masterpiece

Why? At that point of the story there is absolutely nothing that is known about how titans work so if you are going to go "muh asspull" you should kill yourself.
The only thing that can be considered an asspull is the 104th squad being the only survivors.

this show is only for shippers no one seriously watches it for the story

cope

is this anime like that godzilla kaiju something
but with less action and more human drama?

>Titans are established to be humans whose nervous system has merged with a giant meat mech, complete with a brain
>Reiner transfers consciousness to his titan's brain so that he can kickstart regeneration on his real body, since he's still attached
>hurr durrrr i dun geddit

No

I didn't watch or read much of SNK because of a bad ex, kinda caught up mostly to the anime. Got to the end of Season 3 Pt 1 and it handled a few things well.

If I want to continue, can I just hop right on at Volume 17/18 then re-read after I caught up?

yes

thanks bro, I hope waifus become real in your lifetime

Pretty much. Season 3 Part 2 starts half way through volume 18. I always say people should read the Uprising Arc, but it's not necessary to understand anything.

>necessary to understand anything
Never mind Historia and Eren's relationship, and I mean that in the literal way not the shipfaggotry way.

If titan shifters can pull their brain into their ass to save themselves then how do non titans kill them?
every time you try they can transfer their consciousness and regenerate a new body.

They can't focus on the titan and the regeneration at the same time, if they are busy regenerating their body they are basically disabled.

Read the manga from volume 13/chapter 51.

I always saw it as they start out as a body in a titan and then over time they meld into it. That's why Armin still has pants after changing back so quickly as opposed to Ymir who was naked after being in it for so long.

Good manga, great plot, unpredictable twists, and an improving art-style, but honest to god the characters are way too average for the story.
With the exception of Reiner (and maybe Zeke if you've read enough pessimist philosophers to understand him) every other character is flat as a board.

>When shifter transforms into a titan his consciousness gets transferred to his TITAN'S BRAIN through his nervous system
>That way shifter can see and hear everything while being inside a titan
>Nervous system is like a USB cable in this scenario
>That happens every time shifter transforms
>When Levi slices Reiner he manages to start the process of transforming before sword damages his spine completely
>When Reiner's head gets blown up his consciousness remains inside his titan's brain, which is why he retains some of his memories after regenerating
At least this is the way i understand it
Isayama is a hack, this could've been explained so much easier

Attached: 1468643438420.png (395x485, 232K)

It's just a minor asspull, you can easily ignore the scene where Levi even attacks Reiner and it wouldn't make a difference.
Isayama never uses this "O MY CONSCIOUSNESS" plot point again

Asspulls are only bad writing if they're beneficial to the protagonist and his side. They're not if they're beneficial to the antagonists. On the contrary.

Not at all, asspulls are bad writing regardless of who it benefits

>6 years waiting for answers
>he doesn't like the answers
I laugh at you. Begone.

No he fucking didn't he transfer to survive this is some shitting writing.good thing I have this transfer abilites once I was about to die no wait I can also transfer my consciousness to be nervous system.so i can scream with half my fucking head gone.

He did something similar when he shielded Falco from Eren, he just took a nap after instead

You're wrong. Anything that puts the protagonist in a bad position is viewed by the audience as daring from the author, and a proof of skill, like ("oh wow he isn't afraid from putting his protagonist in a bad spot! how are the protags gonna deal with this shit?!!"). While pulling your protagonist away from a bad spot (O MY RUBBER NEN) thanks to an asspull is seen as an admission of a lack of skill from the author. He put his protagonist in a bad spot with no good plans for how he was going to get him out of here.
Even if the internal consistency of the show isn't preserved by this asspull, as long as it saves the antags, it's fine. But in SNK there is internal consistency, and asspulls are only asspull because of a lack of knowledge on the protags part. So this kind asspull is objectively among the best kind of asspulls there is out there, and there is nothing wrong with it.

Attached: i came here to laugh at you.jpg (640x480, 33K)

O MY RUBBER NEN was used by an antagonist so you're contradicting yourself.
>because of a lack of knowledge on the protags part
I agree with this point but while it may be the case in SnK, not every asspull used on an antagonist follows this trend, I honestly wouldn't even call it an asspull if it's just caused by a lack of knowledge on the protagonist's part.
Do you think it wouldn't have been bad writing if Reiner pulled some asspull that had nothing to do with a lack of information on Eren's part?

Only the first "conciousness transfer" was really lame.
The second could have been easily explained away as "Reiner used his titan's brain as a backup drive", but I don't know why the author didn't do that.
To be honest, neither situation has major impact on the plot, so I don't fuss much about it even if it's weak writing

They already explained earlier that Nen gets stronger after death.

>When shifter transforms into a titan his consciousness gets transferred to his TITAN'S BRAIN through his nervous system
Transfering consciousness doesn't and should not negate the titan nape weakness he can still physically be harmed and the nervous system can still be damaged by physically trauma.why is he the only one shown to do it. Why was it explained when he should have died.

>hisoka
>an antagonist
Kek, nice one.
These roles are situational. It stands to reason that you could be dissatisfied with an asspull because you latched on the wrong side of the arena and were rooting for them, but that's a problem with you and/or the author's writing. There is no contradiction here.

An asspull isn't major if it shown at the last second.

Not him but in the context of the battle Hisoka is the good guy and Chrollo the bad. Hisoka is sometimes nice to Gon and friends. Chrollo is always Kurapika's enemy. If a scene focuses on Hisoka, he essentially counts as the protagonist

>but I don't know why the author didn't do that
He literally did

Unpredictable twist like season 3 edgy historia who betrayed her father for the plot and emo bitch boy eren. and the the titan hardening suddenly appear when eren needed it.

It is more similar to fucking Band of Brothers than Godzilla or Walking Dead at this point in the manga.

WW2 era and concentration camps included.

What? He injected himself with the hardening serum. You were on your phone the whole time I am guessing? Historia barely knew her father and once it was pointed out he was using her and all the citizens of the walls she rebelled.

I swear some people are so fucking dense

Attack on Titan's whole "Jews used to rule and brutally oppress the world and fled after losing a war and are the only people who can turn into Titans and literally eat people" thing is, y'know, pretty gross and maybe a reason not to buy/read/watch it, just FYI.

The Reiner and Bertholdt twist was great, and today's episode was a good read in the manga as well, although I've seen it done somewhere else it was still a good reveal

>Do you think it wouldn't have been bad writing if Reiner pulled some asspull that had nothing to do with a lack of information on Eren's part?
It depends. If this were Jojo for instance I wouldn't care. I don't read it for internal consistency and Araki never built up any expectations on this matter in his writing. Jojo is pure dramatic tension so an asspull on the antag side is always good for that. Dispensable, but not bad enough to drop the show.
In SNK though expectations for internal consistency were built up because questions about the universe, how the titans and shifting work, and information gathered on the matter are an integral part of the plot. So yes, it would be bad writing, but not as bad as if Eren had unlocked that consciousness thing on his own with zero explanation for instance.

Does this mean Eren is a Kike?

>betrayed her father
Never mind his father killing her mother right in front of her, stupid faggot.

No and that faggot is 100% falseflagging, or at least I hope so since the thought of someone that maliciously delusional existing scares me.

Where does it say it was Armored serum? He only specifies that it's the strongest as far as I knew

Attached: 29.jpg (1130x1600, 459K)

Armin had pants even after he burned alive

Thanks for correcting me; I went back and saw you're right.

That's what reiner did lmao

The hardening serum appeared in front of eren once the cave started to collapse. Where did it come from? if your reason regarding historia is she didn't know him why did she consider taking the serum on mutiple occasion. That right because royce showed her his memories and eren' dad eating her sister.

But they didn't, they're obviously not jews aside from the aesthetics of their treatment as outcasts (ghettos, armbands and the like, ostracization is obviously not specific to the jews across history) and as a character noted, if the eldian did rule and oppress the world for thousands of years there wouldn't be a drop of non titan blood left on earth. And even if they did, that would make the eldians not jews because jews weren't in a position to rule or oppress anyone until very recently.
Seems a pretty retarded reason to drop it honestly. There are politics in the show but not the ones you say. That's just surface level shit, the kind /pol/ and tumblr latch on to bait everyone. Just enjoy the show for what it is and stop looking for pseudo historical metaphors and political half truths in it.

Last weeks ep was bad and this ep was bad. Most of season 3 was bad.

Why was this explain was soon as the plot needed it. My main problem is what he's doing just how convenient it feels.

He is referring to this magical power-up potion striaght from a fucking video game. It came out of Rod Reiss' bag where he had also stored the syringe.

Attached: page_172.jpg (1200x1800, 522K)

It was merely a problem with the execution imo. Isayama wanted to explain what happened but really he shouldn't have. It felt too much like he was justifying himself through Reiner. If it were up to me the dialogue would just be
>Reiner! Are you alright?!
>Y-yeah I'm fine, almost kicked it but I made it in time.
And there, no explanation until 30 chapters later where Isayama shows a cadet training session where they practice this shit while Magath beheads them again and again.

I thought they'd meant that Rod had used the armored serum too, and that was why it was there. My bad.

Attached: howdoesheknowthat.jpg (123x107, 11K)

Annie's slice wasn't killing blow and didn't destroy the nape rule.

and thats why had pants when he came out of his titan

Explain it when it's convenient doesn't justify it.

Underrated

It's an asspull, but so what? An asspull isn't a valid criticism in and of itself.

How else would it have been introduced? I can't see any other scenario where transferring your consciousness to your body would be useful.

He could have talk to anyone about it. It could have have been hinted at.anything is better than introducing it a the last minute.

Asspull disregard established rule. instead of introducing concise rules that can be used to drive the plot in interesting ways.asspull will make the story unpredictable asspulls are pretty much it's that kid with the everything proof shield that saves him no matter what.

There were no established rules regarding the consciousness of titan shifters or how they can even be killed, that scene was meant to establish the rule. If that wasn't the case the scene could have easily been written differently.

Season 3 part 1 was way worse. They raped the story and made it into a jumbled mess.

You shouldn't establish a rule when it's plot convenient. It comes off as an asspull.

True

This, I forgot what it was called, but if you want to introduce a new ability, you need to foreshadow it to not seem out of the world. Reiner's consciousness transfer and Zeke's revival (especially the latter) seemed like deus ex machinas.

Say thanks to WiT , who literally cutted in pieces the entire arc, since in the manga it was longer, different (like eren and hisu being kidnapped in a different way, more focus on the 2 journalists etc...) and better written (they cutted a lot of explenation like Frieda's madness caused by the king's power)

I know, I read the manga minutes before starting s3. It was horrible. And all of that butchering, just so they could have the Kenny fight start at the end of episode 1, even though it's supposed to happen 7 chapters into the arc. They wanted to end the episode with a cool action shot, do they could show it off at a con. And that's why they ruined that arc.

When anime gets to basement reveal everyone will stop watching.
Be ready for 19th century politics is all im saying...
