I assumed the very fact a devil was in the grimoire is what gave Licht's old grimoire and swords their anti-magic properties. But, judging by what Secre mentioned, it's more like the devil trapped in the grimoire has anti magic magic, and that is what gives them the anti magic properties.

If that is the case, would it be possible to trap other devils in other grimoires and give other magic types a seperate property? Like, for example another anti magic devil giving a water user anti magic water? Word magic plus song magic? Would stuff like that, in theory by their world's rules, be possible?

Personally I feel it starts to come into its own at around the Witches' Forest arc, which starts at chapter 74
But honestly if you aren't enjoying the progression up to that point, the increasing quality of the later arcs won't save you. It doesn't stop being generic shonen, it just moves into a fairly decent war arc and doesn't fall completely on its face (yet).

Horikoshi would provide his artistic skill and orientation on detail, to draw all the hypersexualized girls that Black Clover lacks for mass popular success. He could also assist Tabata with drawing and maybe give him some original ideas for new magical abilities (that he stole from Western comics).
