Which is cooler: Hamon, or Stands?
This is very important
Which is cooler: Hamon, or Stands?
Other urls found in this thread:
And just to clarify, COOLER, not BETTER
Hamon
Stands are gay, enjoy your Pokémon battles
hamon is cool, but too limited for a story that big and stand is totally retarded. The only right answer is... jojo is a disaster
the only time pokemon was like it was the viridian city gym battle where it was rigged to injure you too
Hamon's more manly and virtuous.
Stands are more creative and horrific.
But which one is cooler
Spin
Stands are cooler. Part 2 saw hamon to its best possible conclusion.
Stands make for so many good scenarios that they make Jojo's what it is. Easily stands
My problem with Stands and why I somewhat prefer Hamon for narrative is that almost everything can be explained with Stands.
During the Hamon parts, there were vampires, Jack the Ripper, gay aztec gods, robo-nazis and such. There are exceptions like in part 4 with the ghost street, or the maybe-alien guy, but everyone having a specific super power just because of plot convenience is kinda boring. It makes the universe feel smaller.
Hamon fights = asspull
Old Joseph because he wielded both
It's impossible to say because of how varied stands are. Stands can either be lame or the sickest shit.
Hamon with stands.
and Stand fights = fucking retarded asspulls
I'd rather have normal asspulls
There was nowhere Hamon could go past part 2. If the pillar men conveniently had a *more* powerful enemy to deal with it would end up with jojo doing the same thing that every series does - introduce new op villain, have villain beat MC, have MC learn new hamon technique, have MC beat villain
Stands have allowed for the most creative and unusual fights in a shounen series where the answer is never "beat the enemy up until they die in a beam clash" besides maybe early part 3 where araki was still getting used to them.
By allowing more weird creative things stands are cooler than hamon
Stands killed the series both in popularity and quality. I’ve never met a person that enjoyed a part past part 2 and I don’t know anyone personally that didn’t drop the show during part 3. And my friend circle is large, so..
modern jojofags are just a hive mind and a loud minority
>My close group of friends dont like part 3 and beyond so that means despite the fact that Jotaro is one of the largest icons in shounen manga part 3 is unpopular
Like I said, the people who like Jotalo and jojo after are a loud minority
Stands can be cooler powers, but Joseph is just so cool that he's still the coolest JoJo during his part even with only hamon
where the fuck do i begin watching this mess of a series, the 2012 version?
Hamon asspulls were more fun
I agree with this. JoJo felt the most bizzare during part 2. Part 3 onward was still enjoyable but it stopped being unpredictable and settled comfortably into a standard monster of the week formula. The sense of adventure was the strongest in part 2. Granted from what I've seen of SBR it too looks very cool
based and hamonpilled
Fuck stands. Honestly my hype for the show completely disappeared with the introduction of them and the complete retconning of Hamon.
This is really the best answer so far. Stands are an interesting take on psychic powers and the weird rules they have to follow help to keep the series from getting too stagnant.
Hamon and Spin combination
Hamon
Manly fist fights > persona tier fights with punch ghosts.
Stands are why I never got part 3, what a fucking lame concept
Hamon is so fucking garbage that even the snowflake and contrarians of Yea Forums can't call it the best.
Seriously how the fuck is magic breathing power cool?
Stand = mystery + cool ass designs. Even fucking Jesus was a stand user
>having friends
>having a big circle of friends
Kung Fu magic will always be top tier.
Hamon > Stands
Hamon since it only works against vampires, so essentially you just fight vampires.
Old Joseph was an insult to the character
Hamon is cooler, part two is the best arc with the most fun battles, Joseph is the best Jojo and had the best music
youtube.com
Unlike Hamon, Stands can pose with you.
hamon is magic sparks flying from fingers
stands are whatever cool shit you can think of
i think it's clear here
If Hamon stuck around JoJo would not really have it' s own identity, you'd just have a more kid friendly version of some of the sillier fighting styles from the 2nd half of Hokuto No Ken.
Stands are cooler.
I find Hamon to be more fabulous and therefore cooler but I fully recognise that Hamon as a concept had fully run its course by the end of Part 2. There was just no where else compelling it could go to. Stands are pretty fucking awesome but their quality and design range from really fucking dull shit to fucking amazing. Hamon was cool across the board
Stands are cool as fuck, but because Part 1 and 2 were the coolest parts of the series anons get confused and think Hamon has something to do with it.
Define the “””character””” he insulted
The problem is stands have no rules. Araki can just have one do whatever he wants and it's super convenient. The universe has no logic anymore
I FUCKING loved hamon.
I have no idea why he dropped the concept, the idea of a fundamental energy that affects objects is incredible.
Hamon enables to turn spaghetti into iron hard piercing weapons, can shot objects at insane speed, it puts on steroids any mechanical object, allow you to walk on water and spikes... The potential was crazy.
Stands are shitty avatars with a dumb asspull gimmick that not even follows logic, it fits better for Araki writing style, but hamon was truly wasted.
Stands are cooler ONLY when they aren't reduced to punch ghosts. Also stop making stands that fuck with time.
I'm just glad Hamon ended on good note. Joseph was a great and entertaining protagonist. The villains, the friends, the music, the unique landscapes that gives variety for fights. Jonathan was kind of a bore, Joseph literally changed my perspective of the series. All I got to do is appreciate that Hamon ended good, but was not forgotten at least in 3.
I prefered hamon to the boring ass stands because my opinion was biased coming from HxH. I was expecting a fleshed out power system but all I got in the end are really cool designs without substance
Hamon was fucking boring lmao. The only thing that made part 2 watchable is Joseph and LISALISA.
>Waifunigger unable to comprehend simple storytelling.
Hamon since you fight like a man not some "creative" gay cunt with a ghost.
Cooler: Stands. It was revolutionary. It's what made JoJo JoJo and it was a stroke of sheer genius. The execution, however, isn't always the best. And Araki retroactively making Stands some sort of alien virus was just stupid.
Best: Hamon. It's a tried and true formula like Ki. And it's implementation in parts 1 and 2 was very good. It is also the series biggest missed opportunity, even if the idea isn't particularly novel and even if part 1 was a bit pedestrian and part 2 had it's share of misfires like Zeppelin, it was still pretty neat. I would've loved to see GioGio use Hamon since his stand is about controlling life and Hamon is life energy.
>people actually prefer phantom blood/battle tendency.
why though? it's just FOTNS with vampires.
Stands, easily. You guys seriously think sunlight kung fu is cooler than having your own body-ghost double that usually has a sick as fuck design and off-the-wall abilities?
Hamon is just discount Hokuto Shinken
>Implying Hamon asspulls aren't infinitely worse than Stand asspulls
O MY VOLCANO
>Stands killed the series both in popularity and quality.
According to you and only you considering the Stand parts are what made JoJo famous to begin with in Japan
Literally read past part 3, Stands lead to easily some of the most engaging and interesting fights in Shounen
Because "muh manly wacky posing adventures XD"
Only brainlets prefer JoJo pre-DiU because they can't appreciate Araki actually going out of his way to establish his own identity as a mangaka by making a style unique to him. JoJo wasn't even trying to hide that it ripped off Hokuto no Ken for so long. Also people who actually prefer the structureless system of Hamon that mostly resulted in nothing but asspulls all the way through are people who haven't even read the series past part 3, no one who's up to date can actually unironically think that Stands are just asspulls and that they don't bring some of the most engaging and interesting fights in the series
This, there's a reason why Stands are iconic and Hamon isn't. Hokuto Shinken is a better system than Hamon ever could've been, if you like JoJo just for the manliness and the wackiness but want some of that old-timey feel literally just watch Fist of the North Star. You have no reason not to.
>it's just FOTNS with vampires.
that's the best part
but if i wanted that, i'd just read FOTNS and convince myself that shin, raoh, souther et al were vampires.
There was a filler episode where Kenshiro went to Dracula's castle because he was fucking with the water supply.
Different user but you can see Shin and Roah in direct daylight multiple times.
massive gains and hokuto shinken/nanto seiken make them immune to the sun.
I can understand people liking Battle Tendency since Joseph is such a great protagonist.
I'd believe it.
We never saw hamon at its peak. Both joseph and jonathan only trained for a very short amount of time, yet were more proficient in it than their masters. If we could have seen them training for atleast 10 years they would be unbeatable
Hamon was cooler to me. The fights were like watching really good martial artists. Sure, they were supernatural and had different power levels, but it was all capped within a certain range.
With Stands, the fights are like watching people with knives, sharingans, time machines, Pokemon, guns, Qwaser powers, drones, grimoires, etc go against each other. Fun to watch, but always feel like there's a bigger asspull around the corner.
Plus, there's pic related.
Hamon was asspull city, it changed how it worked constantly yet people shit on stands that atleast keep to a theme, Hamon went from sun to electricity to mindcontroll and magic at a whim
Joseph should have kept his fucking Hamon training up, could have had sexy grandpa Joseph in part 4
That's what made SBR cool, it had its own version of hamon along with stands, and the two interacted and synergized with each other.
>or the maybe-alien guy
Was that guy actually an alien or was he just fucking weird? Weirder than Jojo can typically be.
true, but it's also more that the spin had consistent effects which were limited and so a lot of strategy was used to get it to work rather than asspulls, same with hamon. Stands are a lot less consistent.
This. Stands are a good way of preventing power creep because almost every Stand has it's advantages and flaws, it's not "my Persona has bigger numbers than yours you lose", for the most part at least. Even broken as fuck bullshit Stands like Golden Asspull Requiem, Made in Heaven and Tusk are really situational, for Tusk to work you need to be propulsed by a horse, for GER to work you need to stab yourself with the beetle arrow, in order to get made in heaven you need to perform a huge fucking ritual and be at a really specific place in earth and the Stand itself is a world-wrecking mess that tires you out.
Hamon because it always jobs
Jonathan always had to find ways to win without using Hamon
>Hasn't actually read part 1
The volcano was just luck and Kars triggering it with his hamon
>JoJo felt the most bizzare during part 2
>when the anime is currently adapting split personality slut looking italian mafia boss that can erase time fighting a cripple over an arrow that makes you invincible and bodyswapping along with mutation is happening next ep
>when the manga currently focuses on chasing down an 89yo man that you can't catch up to because he brings bad fotune. The pursuers are: a sailor that's 2 people fused together and a fruit grower. They're chasing after a stick
>And my friend circle is large, so..
Hamon is cooler but it's not like the series could really progress much further on the back of hamon.
That said, stands really don't fit the kind of stories Araki likes to tell. These big adventures with large-scale consequences and larger-than-life villains. Part 4 works incredibly well because it's a very small group of protagonists confined to a very small location. It allows for things like the villain's ultimate ability just being "hey talk about me to someone and they explode and then we try again", which is incredible and sinister in a way that King Crimson and The World and Made in Heaven can never be. It prevents powerlevel nonsense, because the conflict is so small-scale that power levels don't matter.
Hamon works way better for those big, apocalyptic-scale events, because when Hamon encounters something functionally immortal and impossible to beat, it doesn't just get to have a stand evolution or a requiem powerup to solve the problem. It has to think of something creative, like blowing up a volcano
Stands aren't a virus, the virus just puts stress on your body to pull out any latent stand
Stands are better, but I feel like they would be better if explained/tied into the plot. Right now everyone just sort of have stands for no real reason.
I could hope for a combination of the two, but I still don't see how you'd get around the power creep implied by hamon. What I hate the most about stands is when they balance an obviously OP as fuck stand like The Hand from pt. 4 by making the guy borderline retarded. I'm fine with the given Jojo being the smartest guy around, but sometimes the surrounding cast is just so fucking stupid it hurts.
Stands are cooler but I wish hamon still had some relevancy. Stands+hamon is cooler than stands alone. Then we might see the people themselves getting involved in the fights more, instead of just trying to to do everything with their stands, and it would allow for characters with more "support"-type stand abilities, like Purple Hermit, to still be able to fight.
In the SBR universe only those who've interacted with the Jesus burrito has them though, the reason the Joestars have Stands in part 8 is because of the whole Johnny deal, the reason anyone related to the Higashikatas is beacause they literally have a Jesus burrito buried in their backyard, how rock humans came to be and why they have Stands by default is yet to be properly explored. Others like Yasuho, Karera or Ojiro have Stands because they probably have interacted with the Wall Eyes at some point in their lives.
>and I don’t know anyone personally that didn’t drop the show during part 3. And my friend circle is large
We know that's not true simply because you post on Yea Forums. Unless you count fags from the net friends. They aren't.
The real danger of powercreep is giving characters both hamon and a stand at the same time. Then you get the specific bullshit of stand powers plus the general bullshit of hamon.
The easy way to minimize creep would be to make the strength of hamon users' stands inversely proportional to their hamon strength, with the exception of final boss characters.
So people like Joseph get weaker stands like Hermit Purple, which mostly just support their hamon. Meanwhile, people like jotaro sacrifice hamon potential for a powerful stand like Star Platinum.
Spin, best of both worlds
Stands
Hamon is cooler but stands have endless potential.
I like Hamon more but understand that it reached its peak in Part 2 which is why Stands had to happen. The only thing I'd say is that I wish Araki didn't outright sweep Hamon under the rug and found better ways to mix the two powerset like he originally planned, wherein the only reason for its minimal appearance in Part 3 was that he was afraid that Joseph would overshadow Jotaro.
Hamon burns things while White Album can reach tempertatures close to 0K. No contest
Stands are cooler because they are /fa/ as fuck
Hamon is far better. Stands are just less limiting
I'm really disappointed that Stands being an advance form of Hammon is never actually brough into play with an advanced hamon user developing one and inb4. Josephs came from Dio
>afraid Joseph would overshadow Jotaro
>proceeds to have Jotaro overshadow Josuke in part 4
Yeah Araki's weird like that.
stands are definitely a more original and creative idea but I enjoy hamon more because it's more personal instead of relying on imaginary friends like they're pokemon or something.
Stands:
>better visuals
>wider range of creative powers
>better posing potential
Hamon just can't compete.
>Hamon is more personal
>When stands are literally a reflection of a person's personality
I think his point was that Stands feel more like your soul buddy that fights for you rather than doing the fighting yourself, with hamon you have to physically beat shit.
This. Spin > hamon because it's still more creative than magic karate.
>matured with age and became a responsible mentor to the next hero
>still a goofy trolling asshole that almost got himself murdered pranking his grandson
Old and young are good for different reasons, but old joey jojo was a great way to develop the character.
Start with 2012 part 1 and go forward. If it seems boring, force yourself to finish it because it's short and the series really picks up at part 2
hamon
>Spin > hamon because it's still more creative than magic karate.
MUH GOLDEN RATIO
kys faggot
Be warned that part 3 is 48 episodes, of which only 12 are good.
Hamon. It should have ended after jojo beat kars
Stands are generally cooler since there's a lot more possibilities, but I do wish we got a new power system at some point.
This.
you and your friends sound like faggots
Hamon definitely, stands are usually just full of BS
Hamon, not even to be a contrarian.
Jonathan using hamon to turn a bunch of leaves into a glider is way more creative than Star Platinum's "I'm super fast and strong and precise and can basically do anything".
based and hairpilled
Hamon Wholewheat is the coolest. Fight me.
Hamon was much more bullshit, it did everything from healing to freezing things in the air to mind control to rube golberging corpses. Stands atleast keep to a theme
The only rule Hamon had was that you need to breathe for it to work. That's it. It was basically a magic swiss army knife. Most Stands at least have specific rules for usage.
>Also stop making stands that fuck with time
>stop... time
Got it, you want more DIO.
But seriously, Araki won't ever stop because he loves time Stands and acknowledges that control over time is the strongest thing there is.
Hamon should have stayed in the Stand era as a single guy's power trying to fight stands
Anyone with a large circle of animu friends and whom opinion is worth a salt, would know that part 3 was what made Jojo big in the first place, and it was the part that all of us were waiting to get animated
kys anime only faggot
Hot hamon cheese
Josuke had better fights throughout the part and Jotaro failed several times. Notable losses including Kira at the tailor's shop and against a rat (granted that was one powerful rat). Meanwhile Josuke gets sick fights like Highway Star and the final confrontation with Kira. Jotaro was definitely a better character in part 4 than he was in part 3 though.
both are wrong
Spin for the win
>Araki says control over time is the strongest power
He would know, he's immortal already
He's not just immortal, he's getting younger.
