At least the beginning of the chapter with the reveal said it was the biggest must read in Conan history. I just don't find the concept of "let's force Conan to watch as his half naked gf snuggles with another guy, going further than she ever did with Shinichi" to be a fundamentally funny one no matter how they spin it. It seems perverse and goes way beyond the usual jealous misunderstandings.
It's such a departure from the sweet sincerity of the first few movies. It's disappointing to me that the anime went this direction and that Gosho allowed it to happen.

It's probably not really ironic but directly related. The director Nagaoka was on a panel discussion last night where she talked about directing the movie, and mentioned how a lot of women of her generation idolized Kid. I wonder if she was deliberately chosen as director in order to give a female sensibility to the movie and appeal to the female moviegoers. A lot of those female Kid fans are fujoshi, and if she's one too then the bizarre things in this movie make more sense.
Is she going to direct the rest of the movies from now on? Her words in that interview make it sound like she will, because she mentions wanting to make another Kid movie in the future (and the producer Suwa telling her to wait 5-6 years).

In the early days, it was different, no one knew when the series was going to end. Each movie could have been the last one, so they put their all into them. There was an innocence and sincerity to the storytelling in those days that was gradually lost as they became slick action fests.

I don't watch this movie as much as I should. There's a lot of great scenes and I talk about it enough and it even has Takagi in a supporting role but I find myself watching Heaven and Baker Street more often. I think if there's any of the 6 I watch the least it's Wizard though. It's still good but some parts are kinda slow. The climax and ending was pretty great even if it raised the question about Kaito knowing Conan's identity in the movie canon being something Aoyama agrees with. I think I just have to be in the mood to watch it because it's one of the more dialogue heavy films of the time and I usually watch them tired already. Aside from Kid being shot in the eye like it's nothing there isn't anything I even dislike about it. Heiji is always good too.

I had mostly forgotten the content of this movie when I rewatched it last night. The ones that I really watched over and over on tape a long time ago were 1 and 2. But I was really impressed with 4 because of the script composition and how well the story flowed into the climax and mirrored the last scene to the first scene. I feel like the flow was done the best out of the first four movies.
And Conan got to be extra manly and cool this movie protecting Ran which he hardly gets opportunities to do since she's always a super karate girl stronger than him.
3 is one of my least favorites. Maybe because it's a Kid movie, and he was never my type of character. And the plot felt a little thin or maybe just didn't interest me enough. It does look beautiful in the remaster though.
Looking forward to seeing movie 5 in about a month going at my current clip through the series.

I think for me, in order of most watched to least watched, it's 5 > 6 > 1 = 2 > 4 > 3 but that's just recently the past year or two. I used to watch the Case Closed dub around 2010 but I stopped at some point getting into subs. I agree on the flow, it was a pretty solid story without too much deviation or different aspects for the narrative. As for Wizard looking beautiful in the remaster that is also true, I'm glad they remastered these cel films and the episodes too. I wish we knew about the status of the presumed Diplomat remaster that aired some time back but never popped up online.
I wish Conan got to protect Ran more in the manga. I think people actually complain about the movies putting her in the damsel in distress role too often, but with 4 he was directly protecting her while in like Movie 18 she had no idea.

This. For such a long manga there really ought to be more scenes like that. I think there were only a few in earlier volumes and then nearly none later on. But he's so cool and lovable when he gets to protect Ran, and Ran is so cute and feminine when she gets to be vulnerable. Instead, when she takes care of every threat so easily and it seems like nothing bad will ever happen to her, there's less of a feeling of danger overall and that's pretty anticlimactic.
I can only assume Gosho's fetish for strong girls won out over time.

The Japanese website linked to says that's a list of best-of reruns that are broadcast at irregular times and aren't the same as the remastered episodes that are broadcast nationally. So without more proof I'm not convinced based on that link alone that that case was ever aired as a remaster as opposed to a rerun.

It mentions Conan vs Kid which was a remaster in April from that channel but there is no confirmation as to if it is a remaster. I just don't see the cel era getting a rerun in the HD age without a remaster, but even so a rerun might look better than what we got on DVD. The old Naniwa Murder Case did and it wasn't even during the HD era. With them actually doing remastered episodes I don't see why they'd air an average rerun from back then either.

I also agree Desperate Revival needs one especially with all those dark scenes through the cave story, it'd be a good schedule filler during this time because they're too close to the manga. I'd take it over more actual filler episodes, at least right now. Any remaster would probably be better, they aren't really doing too many interesting fillers anymore. They can still have nice character moments but that's just here and there. I think the recent Sapphire companion story where Conan wasn't actually present but the kids seeing him in their minds to their perspective of him was kinda cool.

Another one, definitely my number one, is this. I like the tense atmosphere with Shinichi wandering around Tokyo at night and Conan running through the stone ruins. And then the happy second half with how Ran and Shinichi find strength from their love for each other through the bad times.
The style really takes me back to the 90s and how DC still had dark rough edges to it, so different from today.

Now I found a line that could have been translated better in the subs I watched. This scene, where Sonoko asks the bride how the proposal went, and she replies that it wasn't anything fancy. Then Eri says it's better that way, and says the line in pic related. But the original is more like, "The guys who spout phony lines that put your teeth on edge are no good." While the idiom she uses is often used in the context of flattery, it basically refers to someone who behaves in an insufferably affected and over the top way that's irritating. Shinichi isn't a flatterer, but on the other hand is a pompous ass prone to saying some incredibly pretentious things when he has a mind to, so I think it's better to translate it more like this.
As an aside I really enjoy it whenever the series emphasizes how similar Kogoro and Shinichi actually are at their core.

he (actually) wanted (Conan) to do something about Sera, who's trying to peek into the house;
Haibara doesn't know why she's doing this but Conan tells her that Sera suspects that
both of them have shrunk; Okiya suddenly comes in and Sera takes the chance to come in, too.

but right afterwards the Professor finds him. He leaves marks on the dish with his blood while saying that
this dish is real and then faints; he tried to call for the police and the ambulance but since he'd left
his smartphone in the car, he goes to fetch it; the culprit uses that chance to come out of hiding
and stab the victim.
Conan, Okiya and Sera, told about the situation by the Professor, rush to the victim's room
but find that the dish is gone; then the clients who asked (the victim) to appraise (the dish)

Because we're a small group of people who try to keep things going with what we have. You can't seriously think Yea Forums loves Conan, most of it that even cared dropped it ages ago which is why we have an endless supply of people still not getting the memo that it exists still. We rarely get a bunch of people, it's not that easy to keep the threads alive most of the time either. Them being week long adds to the point, posts are held out usually until page 10 even in times where the board has slowed, if Yea Forums loved Conan it wouldn't take a week to hit bump limit, and we'd hit bump limit more often. Lots of threads die young even if we hadn't just had one and was posted during an alive time of day.

There are more english places than America where Conan fared better but unlike a lot of them for instance Germany has started up the anime again and kept the movies flowing, we get stuck with the manga which bookstores dont even carry half the time despite selling well enough. I can't speak for Britain, but someone there has told me that things haven't been too kind to Conan either. America has its cult following for Conan but it isn't and never has been enough, or else Funimation would have kept it going. Nothing tried reached the American market, and the Case Closed form is what sent over to the UK and their manga was renamed.

Seriously, in a series with this kind of premise there is not remotely enough /ss/ pandering in it. We had that kiss in movie 2 but that was it. For Conan's sake I wish Gosho would let Ran fall on top of him ToLoveRu-style or something. Let them have more scenes where they sleep in the same bed, and Ran uses him as a dakimakura in her sleep. At least give him something to secretly fap to if he's going to keep on blueballing him for decades without end.
A scene like this where Ran comforts Conan would be nice.

But that particular 3DPD image was interesting for me because that boy and that girl are close to the respective heights for what Conan and Ran would be in real life. The average 7yo boy in Japan is 122cm and Ran is 160cm (or said she was in JK1). So Conan should be way bigger than how he's drawn in the series, where he looks around the size of a toddler.
I wonder how literally we're meant to take the heights as drawn in the series, is Conan really that small in their world? Or is it just artistic license.

Apart for all those scenes where Conan is struggling to reach doorknobs and vending machine buttons, which could also be artistic license in a symbolic way, that's where I'm leaning too. It just makes the physical stunts he pulls easier to accept.
