The writing quality was very inconsistent at the beginning of the manga.
The only reason Isayama became big was because of the unique concept and the fact he used European architecture and lore.

I don't get why people bash his art so much, I actually really really like it. Yea it's not as polished or structured as others but his style and passion makes it really charming. Makes it even better when you can see his improvements over the years through his work.
