How did it become so popular, if most of you always say it's just jap Family Guy.
Hidden gintama thread
News flash - Family Guy is super popular too.
It was very popular in American fanbase too. If an American wanted to watch FG they would just watch FG.
Here's a nice Kagura for you.
As user say, Family guy is popular but Gintama isn’t even FG but more American Dad. Said that, Gintama is very Japanese and the jokes need a lot of nip knowledges not only about manga and anime but social media too. Is popular around here because there is a lot of people who like reference comedy, and the antihero archetype. Those are really well played in Gintama. And Gintoki is almost your missed black guy from 80s sería but handsome and non-Black.
good humor for the most part. If it was entirely shounen shit... it would be just another carbon copy dull crap.
Also fuck the anime for leaving everything unfinished at the very end. When's the next fucking season?
>Gintama is very Japanese and the jokes need a lot of nip knowledges not only about manga and anime but social media too.
Wrong. You don't need to know jap to understand most of the jokes. Just a sense of humor.
>Gintama is very Japanese and the jokes need a lot of nip knowledges
You have no idea what you are talking about and you don't watch Gintama.
Constant references to other popular works is What made Gintama popular.
Personally it has everything I ever wanted in a anime
>There's action
>there's romance/lewd stuff, but not to the point where you feel like you're going to hell for watching it.
>There is a storyline and a light plot, it's not complicated with any twists and turns though. You won't need to "catch up" with it if you skipped an episode.
>It's occasionally funny with it's conventional humor It isn't "my sides are always in obit" tier though.
It's simple, short, and entertaining. So in that sense yeah I guess it's a lot like family guy. One thing to point out though is that a lot of Seth Green's shows get VERY political at times. There have been episodes solely made to push some left leaning view. It's annoying as hell. I have NEVER gotten that impression from gintama. They haveyet to touch anything reallife-political Which is why I'm slightly peeved OP has compared them to that.
It's funny, has a large cast of unique and intresting characters, good arcs that actually all end up tying together, some action and it only gets better the longer you watch it.
>It's simple, short
>short
~360 Episodes
what
Holy fuck go back there
The episodes themselves are short and the plotlines are short as a result. Should have probably been more specific
Compared to Family Guy, Gintama is actually funny.
It's quite funny, has good drama and some good action here and there and is literally a SOUL series.
It has the one of the biggest and best supporting cast in the whole medium. I haven't seen a better cast of characters since Baccano and Drrr!.
Too bad that as much as I like Durarara, I can't help but feel a lot of its cast was underutilized.
Gintama Z when?
once edgelord revives again
>How did it become so popular, if most of you always say it's just jap Family Guy.
Unless you've been to japan or studied about it outside anime, it just comes off as LOLXD shit. It's more satire on Japan life/history with modern day japan humor and popular shit mixed.
Loved it the first time i saw it, after the first few episodes it does have a rocky start. However, when I learned more about the people portrayed in the anime historically, and modern day life in places like tokyo/Osaka/Nagano, gintama brought on a new light. Never fucking knew how spot on it was about how weird fuckers are in japan, doing basic shit in japan is a chore, and everyone just hates everything.
Episodes are episodic, or short episodic bits within 1 episode, or just a 4-5 arc story line up until very recent. There is an overall arc'ing plot but it's very loose and easy to pick up and understand and recall without any kind of thought put into it.
