What's going to be the next big thing after isekai?
What's going to be the next big thing after isekai?
3d vr robot sex anime.
Femdom
native isekai
Sekai
Anime dies and gets replaced with Let's Plays which is basically isekai too.
Thats a tough one. To know where we are heading we first have to know where we have been
in the 80s it was cyber punk
80s also a big time for super robot anime
90s space faring crews was popular
Hard fantasies was big in the 90s
mechs were big in the 80-90s
80-90s big muscle guy shounens
harem from late 90s-mid 2000s
Urban fantasies from late 90s-early 2000s
VNs thru most of the 2000s
LNs big from mid 2000s to present
magical girls fits somewhere
These are general approximations
Hard shoujo.
gyaru femdom with shota protagonist
Deconstructions/parodies/plays on popular tropes.
Keep in mind you'll have to take these terms very broadly for the quality and lack of creativity about to happen, right up until "____ parody" will become its own genre, and will undoubtedly get parodied.
Whatever this genre is called.
>Guy crossdresses and gets into prestigious school for girls at the behest of his deceased relative's will
>Gets there
>Every single student is also a trap
>It's an all guy school, but they have to put up girly fronts to prevent the teachers from finding out
This except the reverse with a girl pretending to be a boy to get in the army, later finding out her entire regiment, including the sergeant, is doing the same.
Add this as icing on this shit cake;
>Both schools are neighbors with rivalries akin to oil and water
That's just Monstrous Regiment
Yeah, it is.
What about a girl pretending to be a boy and a boy pretending to be a girl falling for each other? Surely such a plot happened before.
I think I have read something about a boy falling in love with a girl he thought was a boy, and the girl falling in love with him thinking he's a girl. Not quite the same, but similar.
Also something about two boys falling in love, both thinking the other's a girl
Impregnation
anime reality shows
Theres at least a netoge anime about that one.
And I am fairly sure there are some more netoge LNs/Manags with that trope.
Has there been an otome villainess isekai that's been adapted into an anime yet? I want to see five of those suddenly come out in the same season
If the market just gets flooded with isekai then the pendulum will start swinging back hard toward something that goes totally against the themes of isekai, so whatever the opposite of light-hearted wish-fulfillment is
Maybe we'll start getting gritty edgy crime dramas and gothic horror tragedies when people start yearning for realism and dark emotional tones in these things again
Otome Vilainess Iskai is definite a good candidate for the next flood.
But its going to be Revenge Isekai for now.
Starting with Arifuretia next season and then going into Dungeon Seeker, Second time hero, Discarded Hero, etc.
Its not "edgy non-wish fullfilment" but "edgy wish fullfilment".
More wish-fulfillment shit of a different flavor
>Maybe we'll start getting gritty edgy crime dramas
We already have a wave of those, they are those shitty netflix originals that no one cares about
>ironic weeb shit
Yeah that’ll never catch on anywhere except the west.
That's the thing, isekai is just the latest iteration of the wish fulfillment chimera that is LNs. Prior to that was harem, and look what happened to that. Harem is still tacked on to a large bulk of isekai.
Until something comes along that's even bigger wish fulfillment than isekai, it's probably here to stay. And even if something else does replace it, it's unlikely to actually replace it, just integrate it.
harem anime
one guy
five robots
Wild West isekai
Female feet worship hopefully
whatever sells
fushigi yuugi?
In anime though?
Like, I think anime is often 180 degrees from stuff that's popular in the west and this is to some extent on purpose, if most of what's coming out of Netflix and HBO and AMC is overly gritty and depressing and leans realistic, if they're competing with each other to make stuff like Chernobyl then anime needs to produce dumb sappy wish-fulfillment like That Time I Got Turned Into a Slime for everybody else, and if western TV starts producing dumb sappy wish-fulfillment then anime will start making more stuff like Grave of the Fireflies
something that panders to adolescent boys with MC self inserts who
>gets keys to the kingdom
>whack powers nobody else gets
>goverment permission to do something by all means neccesary
you get the picture, in a sense isekais and most shounens fall into this category, maho shoujo would technicly also fall into it from female perspective but I don't have much insight into that
I know it's a bit obvious but if the trend does not include symphatising MC that goes on extraordinary adventures the public won't bite
Pampering. similar to sewayaki kitsune no senko-san. There is the loli baba, milf, onee-san, experienced gyaru
I just read that onee-san one the other day, if they're going to turn that into an anime I already feel bad for whoever they get to be her VA
Who the fuck knows. Ten years ago I'd have never guessed isekai would be a common meme-like pervasive theme, and ten years further back from there, I'd have never guessed that moe SoLs and harems would be a hugely dominant thing for a while.
I mean, what I liked a lot lately are shows like New Game, Shirobako, Servant x Service etc where basically it's moe adults in a working world because that opens up a ton more variety than school. I don't think those have really caught on though. It looks like phone game adaptations and 3d stuff are probably going to be consistent in the future, but we just don't know. I figure in ten years depending on how the world looks things might get a bit more leaning towards series representing and standing in for dealing with Japan's real problems... economy, trade etc. However at its root the churning core of the medium is shonen kid's stuff and teenage romcom/light fantasy. It doesn't necessarily need to be isekai as a lighter/more casual fantasy but things like High School DxD I just don't ever see going out of fashion.
POV anime.
It is already beginning
Depression SoL like Senko san.
So far only Bakarina is announced.
stuff like komisan, nagatoro and uzaki-chan
VR MMOs.
And I mean actual VR MMOs that'll also tackle the MC's real life (like ID that's getting adapted soon), not Log Horizon/Sword Art Online "stuck in a MMO" bullshit.
>normie anime
>trying to force otakus and neets to see that having a family can be comfy too
>using anime as a propaganda tool to increase birthrates
Female snuff.
Hopefully something good this time.
