Wow reading this... it's kind of a nothing chapter despite being so long. There's not really anything interesting gleaned from it, there's really not even solid Yoshida/Tomoko bonding aside from Yoshida buying something to drink at the end. A whole chapter and it comes out to less than the last few pages of the chapter that ended with the scooter ride.

The most important thing from the chapter is the page that shows that Tomoko's lonely now without being away from her friends but that's really it. The chapter itself isn't really funny, nothing's really developed well, it doesn't even really feel poignant. It's just pages of adults going "remember, you're suspended".

It took her forever to not be surprised that Yoshida had decided to interact with her. I would only MAYBE say that after the party she thought of Yoshida as a definite friend rather than acquaintance, and I'm still not certain.

They should've just jumped to Tomoko being back. It's a chapter that seemed natural and needed but really it's not. The first part of the set up -- Tomoko and Yoshida together -- seems like it's set up for some meaningful interaction. But the other half of the set up -- that they're being watched like hawks by the teacher -- instantly snatches it away. As a result it's just a lot of Tomoko commenting on what being suspended is like while teachers remind her every other page that she's suspended. Nothing enlightening is really gained from the chapter as a result.

The most that's gotten out of it is Tomoko realizing that she feels lonely not being around her friends and that Yoshida stereotypes her (as a weirdo loner) as much as Tomoko stereotyped Yoshida. There's not even a true bonding moment or a changing of their dynamic because that was done way back in chapter 147 with the "I'm free any time so contact me if you want to hang out" page which is where they moved on to being actual friends.

It's a pretty boring, nothing chapter in the end. The only ones I'd say I enjoyed less since the big dynamic change after the field trip are the manga chapter and Itou/Komi-something flashback one. This isn't quite as bad as those but it's still not good.

It's not highly supported or even, arguably, supported at all however it's definitely true that at the very least, Mako and Yoshida do have a distinct rapport and concern over one another. Mako is crying? Yoshida flips out and wants to help. Yoshida is upset and ran off? Mako gets up dramatically to go see her (and also got up first when a fight was about to break out). The last fuel for the ship is like one panel with Mako blushing and being VERY happy after Yoshida, specifically Yoshida, compliments her cooking.

Keep in mind none of this is gay at all, or noteworthy. Both characters are known minders who are deeply concerned with people they are acquainted with, or are friendly with. The only reason *I* am slightly turning around on saying "it's total crack" is that in this chapter Mako, who warned against sending messages, did send Yoshida messages but not Tomoko. And really, that wouldn't be noteworthy at all had Nico not decided to have Tomoko take notice of that fact.

It's low key, and I do like the idea of them interacting, but it's not like there's much at all, and most of their interaction hasn't been written teasingly at all, as opposed to Yoshida's encounters with Tomoki.
