Rei appears to have an initial advantage as the mysterious new girl who gets Shinji's attention (Shinji was less oblivious early on) and has plot relevance in the earlier chapters - but that kind of gets tossed out the window, and SIRP Rei's personality could just be loosely defined as "is a girl".
Hell for all we know SIRP Rei is still a Yui clone since we're given zero past history or family for Rei. Yui just tells Shinji that Rei is a distant relative with no elaboration.
Also feel like Asuka was getting more chapters with Shinji toward the end.

I've seen English patches exist for the following, it should be easy to find downloads just googling for their name and English Translation if you can't find their torrent.
-Girlfriend of Steel (PC) and its Special Edition (PC). Just pick the normal one since the SE is a pain to get running if not on an old version of Windows and the additions aren't essential.
-Girlfriend of Steel 2 (PC and PSP). The translations for each version was done by different people, I think I remember PSP's translation sounding more accurate. Artwork is slightly different between the PC and PS2/PSP variants of the game with the latter generally a bit better, but lacking animations.
-Ayanami Raising Project (Nintendo DS)
About 3 other versions of this game exist across PC/PS2, but I don't think any of the others have translations.
