I've tried many times to get into this show. And people are so surprised that I don't like it.
What is it about this show? I can't even get past the first episode because of how stupid it is. Do I need more autism to enjoy this?
Anyone else just not like this show?
I don't have a punchline.
dunno about this but I feel same about Panty & Stockings
Pop Team Epic all the way.
It's kind of like the Catcher in the Rye of animes. It's relatable to those deep in the throes of teenage angst. If you're already out of that age range, it's probably not going to hit you the same way.
Which would make logical sense. I know for me I just can't watch shonen anymore. The themes just don't appeal to me anymore. Shonen are for teenagers first and foremost.
Am I saying other older men can't enjoy shonen? Absolutely not. A lot of shonen still have really cool stories.
I'm saying that for ME my taste is more Seinen. More adult themed and directed.
I liked both this and Catcher more when I became an adult. Catcher and FLCL have a lot of sad, understated irony that you miss when you're just trying to be an edgy teenager.
It's also got Pajama-mori.
why does that kid do that shit? that was smooth as fuck. why does he freak out like a bitch when his head is on her shoulder?
I guess I don't relate to that teenage comedy. Like to me what you just showed me is absolutely moronic.
>I'm saying that for ME my taste is more Seinen. More adult themed and directed.
okay edgelord
because he IS kind a bitch. most of us were at that age. If he didn't have character flaws endemic to his age group, he'd have nothing to transcend.
>inb4 all you watch are "popular" anime
oh, so what you're telling me is that on top of being an edgelord you're also a hipster? stop posting while you still can
The first time I ever saw any of FLCL I thought it was trash, it just looked so ugly. I don't think it really clicked until I watched it all twice in one night. Thank you [adult swim] choose the programming contests.
Naota's personality is that he literally thinks apathy=maturity but is actually incredibly immature and on the level of sex=icky.
>looks down on people watching popular anime
>posts Berserk
>frogposter
>berserk
>not niche
yikes go back to goblon slayer
I felt the same way until I watched it subbed and thought it was pretty good. I fucking hate the dub and don't understand why people think it's good.
>I fucking hate the dub and don't understand why people think it's good.
Literally just nostalgia and people who can't get used to non-"anime" sounding Japanese voices.
Sounds like you're just an npc who doesn't want to feel left out by what's popular
>It's kind of like the Catcher in the Rye of animes
>It's kind of like the Catcher in the Rye

Kill yourself retard
some times user you just dont like something because it isnt your tastes. Cant force a man who likes chicken to eat fish and then call it chicken.
Wifey and I were talking about this show today. The gainex crew makes great fight scenes but story was autistic. Dead leaves was okay, story not really there but great fight scenes. Flock better story a bit but again the focus was the fights. Kill la kill had a better story and still great fight scenes. I wonder what they are working on now...
Is this post supposed to seem like it was written by Naota's classmates?
I didn't really understand the plot but it had a good coming of age story about a boy, it resonated well with me when I was 14. That's also why I don't like the sequels
Whatever you want, dude
He's 12 years old. There's a lot he doesn't get. Granted, there are things he understands about women that I didn't understand at 12, that's part of what makes him interesting.
Warms my heart to see 2 plebs who couldn't get FLCL found each other and found love
FLCL is literally pleb filter: the anime.
I mean we liked it at the time, was my favorite for a long time. I would still watch it just for the fight scenes. Wish they would have had more than 6 episodes to expand on atomsk and the backstory a bit more.
That aspect is brought up frequently but I think as a technical work itself it's still very impressive and a little understated at this point. The stylism and thematics are done exceptionally creatively and cohesively, and you could just feel the passion and exuberance through the production. Gainax was at full throttle. Not for everyone but it's something worth at least trying for any viewer.
Agreed, the dub also has way different sound mixing so the voices are way louder. The music is so important and it really changes the feel when you can't hear it
I could hear it just fine and it still has a strong effect.
Didn't adult swim revive it?
>I'm saying that for ME my taste is more Seinen. More adult themed and directed.
>reddit spacing
Okay, fag
I didn't like it either, just tastes.
>Wish they would have had more than 6 episodes to expand on atomsk and the backstory a bit more.
Imagine missing the point this hard.
Objectively true but let me just say that I read Oyasumi Punpun at age 25 and it still reached the angsty teenager within me that I thought was long since dead.
It’s actually not that popular in Japan.
It’s popular in the West largely because the guys at Adult Swim really liked it.
It’s a big, seemingly random music videos for a Japanese rock band very obviously doing their best to sound like American 90s alternative rock/grunge (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing) and is a bit of a disjointed mess that seems like it was originally intended as a 1 or 2 cour series cut down to 6 episodes so it could be sold as a movie.
For those that like it, it’s either a fun, if strange ride or this 2deep4u allegory for sex and growing up which isn’t a bad guess considering it was made by Gainax.
Oh look. It's this thread again.
It's something I believe that you have to go into blind for the first time or else it just doesn't quite work.
I first saw it over a decade ago, late at night around 1:00am when it was being marathoned on Adult Swim, back when I was in high school.
I didn't connect with it, but I remember thoroughly enjoying it, and I'm sure my youth and open mindedness had something to do with it.
Even on the re-watch years later, I still found it captivating and truly something else that stands out from any other anime series.
It's not the be all and end all of anime, but it's up there in its own unique place.

I thought Panty &Stockings was pretty good but Pop Team Epic was absolutely awful
Recommended it to three of my friends in their mid/late twenties and they liked it. I don't think age has a lot to do with. You could probably apply the same non argument to 90% of anime anyway because most of it deals with teens.
