Kai is a boring soulless version. It doesn't even trim the filler properly.

Z or bust.

Start with original or manga. Don't be a Z-baby. If you watched the original anime, you can then move on to Z and if you get bored out of your mind by the slow-ass pace, try switching to Kai.

You should read through the manga, but if you really prefer an animated take, watch DB and then Z. Avoid Kai.

Kai cuts out a lot of filler from Z, has a great dub (especially if u hate sub Goku's Granny voice), and the OP is good as fuck. Was my entry point to DBZ on Adult Swim - good shit.

Dont

Ask your local Pedro Jose Maria Gamboa he should know anything you need

>where should I start a series
the beginning obviously

Original. Kai lacks Kageyama. Kai is automatically inferior.

Just read the manga and then quit

Manga is the only good one

start at the beginning. Thing is during z there are a lot of refrences to OG dragonball.
My favorite varies. Goku V Vegeta first time was fucking awesome.
Then when the new Movies came out I was enjoying it. I like all of dragonball including super.

What would you say to this rec: whenever there's a good fight, go figure out which anime episodes it is and watch those too
Also basically all of the Frieza fight is mandatory to watch (Kai dub) due to Chris Ayers voice

Start with Kai.

>going for the version that has the untrimmed Namek arc

Dragonball is a fun comedy with tits. Dragonball Z is the reason Battle Shounen sucks ass as much as it does. DBZ Kai gets rid of all the shit they added to DBZ to pad it out so the manga could catch up. Don't let nostalgia fags trick you into watching it DBZ. Watch a few epsiodes of Dragonball and if it doesn't click with you, you can pretty safely skip to DBZ Kai.
Skip Dragonball GT and Dragonball Super, they suck ass.

Good fights are often butchered by the anime but you could do that I guess

Watch the Original anime then Z, then read the manga, skip kai, watch GT then watch Super.
I say read the manga afterwards because even though the anime is 10/10 it fucks up character interaction during the Cell Arc/Saga.
Also I say watch GT because most people who hate and say don't watch it, haven't seen it, its not that bad, just don't become a panpedo.
Also when watching super watch the movies Battle of Gods and Resurrection of F and skip the first two arcs of Super, they are recap arcs and drag down the quality of the rest of the Show.

Oh I also forgot, after watching Super, watch the Super Broly Movie then pick up the Super Manga after that.

What you say about Dragonball is false. It has a lot of different flavours it goes through, and a lot of its pervy comedy gets toned down throughout. The first tenkaichi budokai is fucking great, even though it is just a tournament arc.

>it fucks up character interaction during the Cell Arc/Saga.
How so? Honestly interesting, been a long ass time since I watched that.

Also, don't watch Super, it is utter crap. I don't know if it is wrose than GT, because I have never seen GT, but Super is just a shitshows with some very, very few good moments sprinkled throughout. Yes, the final fight is great. Yes, ultra instinct is great. But I'm not sure if I could truely recommend anyone to slog through the entire Tournament of Power just for that. And the Future Trunks arc has its own set of huge problems.

To name one, Piccolo's rant at Goku not knowing his son, it wasn't just awful, it was noncanon and made no sense, it also started the "Gokek bad dad" copypasta and eventually shills like TFS got their grubby hands on it and milked it so they could seem hip and "In the know"

Well, I'm personally super annoyed by TFS jokes kinda overtaking the fan consensus, and it is made much worse by them now trying to go an actual serious route rather than making a funny abridged series, but is that it?

A thing I always remember about the manga though (and I can't recall if that translated well into the anime) is how Goku always acts after his and Gohan's training in the room of spirit and time. I can't quite pin it down, but there is a subtle kind of confidence he puts in Gohan with some seemingly unimportant side-comments that only really make sense if you know what happens in the end. Guess I'll have to reread to make my point clearer, but maybe you know what I mean.

Yamcha-Tien from the 22nd Tenkaitchi was pretty good

Yeah, at this point TFS is a fandub not an abridged series.
Also yeah I do know what you're talking about, he had that air about him.

>Yeah, at this point TFS is a fandub not an abridged series.
To be fair, it was like that during the climactic moments of the Frieza fight aswell, and it bounced back for the earlier parts of the Cell saga. I suppose they just don't know how to put jokes into the super series stuff without taking away all the pathos, so they just play that shit straight.

In any case, I think I somewhat remember now what I meant there. Goku kept saying, when asked, that he probably couldn't beat Cell, but never lost his confident demeanour. The other characters took that as a side-effect of his new constant super sayia-jin state, or just Goku being Goku. I think Krillin asked him at one point if he had some special plan or hidden technique, and Goku just said "No." and smiled. Then however there are moments like when Goku showed his full power to Karin, and everyone was utterly shocked, but Gohan just stood there and didn't get what the fuzz is about.
If you read into moments like these, you get the idea that Gohan was always supposed to be the one beating Cell, it is surprisingly clever and subtle writing for someone like Akira "HEY BULMA WHERE ARE YOUR BALLS?" Toriyama.

I legitimately think people underestimate how cunning Toriyama can be when it comes to writing, something similar happened during the Buu Saga, during his one day even when being told about Buu by Shin, he never showed tension or worry, nor when Majin Vegeta happened, he was just mad, seeing Vegeta fall like that pissed him off but he never showed a hint of worry, at times it seemed like he was humoring Vegeta, even after Buu's birth he didn't show alarm, just rage at Gohan's "death", Toriyama had been dropping subtle hints for quite a while that Goku had something up his sleeve, and he tricked us with Fusion, portraying it as this is ultimate weapon to stop Buu and then bam, he hit us with SS3, something no one probably ever thought possible, Toriyama may be a forgetful old Coot but when he tries, he is a brilliant author.

During his one day, even when being told about Buu by Shin, Goku never showed tension or worry*
Sorry fucked up.

Yeah. It isn't particularly deep writing or whatever, but Toriyama knows how to portray a character without literally spelling everything out.

The original DB manga is one of the funnest mangas. Basically the kid Goku era is as good as any modern praised shounen, despite some people dismissing it as old generic garbage.

>original DB
Good subbed or dubbed. The female jap voices actually make sense for the initial child castings, and the english voices are fairly well done since it was dubbed after they did all of Z. Some of the edgier/pervier jokes are cut from the dub, but it's still pretty accurate especially if you get the uncut version which I think is a thing.

>Z
Anyone who says to seriously attempt watching this from beginning to end in the current year is blinded by nostalgia. The filler and pacing will drive you mad. Granny Goku is fucking annoying for the jap, and the english dub is god awful for the first half and only starts getting tolerable halfway through the android saga but the localized script hardly improves. Bruce Faulconer OST is nice for nostalgia and short youtube highlights, but watching full episodes of it will give you a headache with how loud and poorly mixed it is. Maybe watch a couple of the fights you like the most in a 4:3 unfiltered release.

>Kai
Watch dubbed if you can handle that cunt Monica Rial for Bulma. Sabbat is really good, and Chris Ayres is the best version of Frieza in any language. Get uncut, not the shit aired on Nickelodeon. Subbed is pretty much the same as Z but less filler.

>GT
I guess if you're a masochist or want to know the 20 year old memes, but it sucks.

>Super
Same as GT but its highs are higher and lows even lower. I haven't seen much of the dub for it but it should be similar to Kai, they should be about finished with it now.

>Movies
A few are relevant to the rest of the franchise like vidya and shit. First Broly movie, first Cooler movie, Fusion Reborn, the three newest movies, think that's it.

>Manga
Original Toriyama manga is good all the way through, the new Toyo Super manga is mediocre and bland.

Attached: 1551226664976.jpg (952x750, 367K)

Just read the manga, the anime has garbage animation and tons of pointless filler, and we don't need yet another Toeitard who thinks random nonsense is "canon"

Gohan SS2 was the only improvement anime has over manga

It's never deep but often clever. Sometimes Toriyama needs to spell things out but often he'll make things work really smoothly.

Don't watch the trimmed versions. Watch the entirety of Dragon Ball and Z and if you're still alive then decide if you want to go onto GT and Super. I just watched both for the first time and I like DB better, Z doesn't necessarily benefit from the serious tone and by the time you get to the Buu saga it just becomes a chore to finish.

Personally I like some of dragonball and hate almost all of Z but the Saiyan saga works as a conclusion for all the permanently relegated to irrelevance immediately afterward Earth characters. It's also where the manga art peaks.

>don't watch the trimmed versions
>but the untrimmed versions are a chore to finish
I don't get your post.

Don't be a pleb, watch it in Japanese. Goku's voice is fine when he's a kid and by the time he grows up you'll be used to it and it's just Goku's voice. She's also not the only voice actor and the rest of the cast is great. Ryo Horikawa is pretty badass as Vegeta, Piccolo is played by Toshio Furukawa, the same guy who played Ataru Moroboshi but he's super serious and also a badass. Wakamoto as Cell, whoever plays Freeza is great. I could go on and on but the point is it's got an allstar cast and Goku shouldn't be a dealbreaker.

Start with reading Journey to the west.
Then watch the original Dragon Ball anime.
After that, read the first Superman comics.
Then watch Dragon Ball Z.
After that, watch the two movies DBZ: Battle of Gods, and DBZ: resurrection of F.
Then watch Dragon Ball Super, but skip the first 27 episodes, because they just repeat the two movies except it's more boring and dragged out.

Nah, Tardku is still annoying and grating now

I wouldn't even blame it entirely on Nozawa either because her "serious" voice sounds great, but Tardku is a fucking tard 99% of the time

>recommending to start with Journey to the West
>before familarizing yourself with its contemporary buddhist culture
>before getting a grasp on ancient chinese mythology
Wow. I bet you just jumped in at the Cell saga back then, right?

My point is that's the only part that's difficult to watch. No ammount of trimming can make irritating shit like Buu throwing tantrums and Gotenks bearable. By that point I was just laughing at how stupid it had become.

Kek

He's just a retard that thinks everyone on this board is a NEET who can dedicate 60 hours a week to watching anime and jacking off. The original DB shows were weekly running for over a decade if you include GT. Kids spent their entire childhood watching it and its reruns, it's madness trying to watch it all now. There isn't much of an option for DB other than just grinding it, but the Path to Power movie consolidates a lot of the early stuff. Kai is a blessing, GT is dogshit that is only relevant in video games. Or you could just read the manga and be satisfied with that, maybe only watching a few highlights. That's pretty much the only option for One Piece too, because both the original anime and episode recap specials are awful.

I never watched all of Z or Kai subbed and never will, you can go fuck yourself with that. The only time Nozawa was ever good in Super was for Goku Black and UI, because both required her to shut the fuck up and rely on something other than ATATATATATATATATA cancer spam. Although I am aware Toei really dumbed down jap Goku since Z so some of it isn't her fault. Wakamoto and Nakao for Cell and Frieza are great sure, and most of the rest of the cast like Vegeta and Piccolo are good, but it just isn't worth it. Also Cell in both of the dubs is fucking great, Dameon Clarke is the voice for perfect. While Linda Young was a terrible Frieza casting in the original and had a cringey script with jokes like space cowboy (she did great as Genkai in YYH), Chris Ayres is even better than Nakao.

I prefer Ryo but whoever the funi dub guy is obviously tries pretty hard to channel him.

She's doing a country accent to further illustrate Goku's simple mindedness. And she does sound cool when she does the serious voice. His English voice actor does the exact same thing just without an accent. Once the threat is eliminated. "Hey guys what's for dinner haha!"

>everyone complaining about subs and dubs
You don't know pain until you have seen the early German dub of Z where Vegeta literally has the voice of fucking Spongebob.

Either Funi redub with the japanese score or Kai if you don't wanna sit through the entire series. Kai is an understandable option but they ruin the pacing of some fights by speeding them up and cutting out some moments that complement the timing, and also the drivers ed episodes.

When does he even get "serious" in Super outside of the Goku Black character and UI? And I don't mean "oh jeez I have to stop holding back now" kind of serious I mean actually angry. The only time in the whole show I can think of is when Zamasu told him he killed Chi-Chi and Goten, and that only lasted like 60 seconds.

The amount of seething in his voice whenever he angrily says Kakarotto is so good. I find his English voice actor easier to laugh at but Japanese Vegeta sounds more prideful and takes himself very seriously. English Vegeta sinks to Goku's level when he calls him a dumbass but Japanese Vegeta instead scoffs at him and calls him a fool.

It took me about 7 years to finish all of DB and DBZ. It's a shame you don't have the attention span to watch something that you can't blow through in a day.

DBZ has many fun dubs.
SAIYA PEEPOL

Oh fuck that one is great.
I AM DE PRINCE OF ALL SPACE WARRIORS

Also, someone post that shitty french Frieza saga opening.

Nice projecting. Considering I'm one of those people that watched it as it aired for years as well as many of its reruns, video games, movies, etc, I don't know why I would try to watch it all now. I would watch DB, Kai, skip GT, only the first Broly and Cooler movies and Fusion Reborn, BotG, F, the Super arcs after those movies, and new Broly. For One Piece I actually did marathon it until I caught up to it right around when the timeskip was first happening, then switched to the manga.

Not what you requested but pure gold right here.

Wtf I love Ginyu now

Manga, then original anime.

>recommends dubs on Yea Forums
>thinks he has an opinion
You need to leave.

Chris Ayres' Frieza is legendary and the only reason to watch the Kai dub

>He would willingly watch dbz with screeching granny Goku
I know you'd be too proud of a shit-eating purist to admit being wrong, but come on man.

read summary of dragon ball from wikipedia, then read DBZ manga

Start with Dragon Ball GT and then Super, forget about the rest, its crap

Jaco the galactic patrolman, then Dragon Ball manga.

Original anime is kind of dated and might not be appealing, but there are many people that love it
Don't watch Z, just watch Kai. Although I'm nostalgic about Z, specifically the English Dub, it's not really good and pacing is atrocious.
Read the manga only if that's your thing.
Then watch Super to shitpost in the threads.

>this thread is still alive

>being mad enough to sage a page 10 thread
Now look what you've done you dumb faggot.

Attached: 1556804335789.gif (500x281, 1.59M)

Read the manga but drop it when the timeskip fighting tournament happens.

Manga from the very beginning, then drop it all together at the Buu arc.

My only problem with Buu saga comes from this scene. Then he later says he can defeat Buu with SS3. He made a gamble and fucked up with fusion.

Attached: 20190528-210458.jpg (1080x2200, 729K)

>starting db with kai
OH NO NO NO

read the manga you can be done in a day

>some dub fag
>legendary
Hahaha fuck off

>fucking Chris Ayres
>some dub fag
Nah mate Chris Ayres' Frieza is the best thing to ever come out of any form of the DB dub and is one of the best dubbed characters out of any show. He is unironically better than Nakao in Kai, I don't know about Super. There was something about him having COPD and a lung transplant between them, but the dude is still doing it. He is a true professional.

Actually just looked some stuff up since I didn't follow anything as it happened, someone had to stand in for him for part of Super. Maybe that was during the surgery, I don't know if he plans on retiring or not but that would be a shame. Haven't watched Super's dub yet, and I don't know if I'll ever bother since all of the Vic bullshit started happening during it and apparently some of it like Zamasu is a mess.

Dragon Ball Recut then Z
